Chapter 62: Hands Hurt from Fighting

Chapter 62: Hands Hurt from Fighting

"Looking for trouble!"

Emily's face was cold as ice.

She raised her hand and slapped him again.

"This one's for the slap you just gave me."

"Emily, you..."

Before he could finish, Emily slapped him again. "This one's for betraying my trust and taking advantage of my help."

"You..."

Emily went for another slap. "And this one's for being blind and heartless, breaking the bond we've had for years. From now on, we’re strangers!"

After finishing, Emily shook her hand, feeling a bit of pain. "What a disgrace!"

Chase was stunned by the series of slaps.

When he finally reacted, he was furious, almost lunging at her.

This happened right in front of the person he liked. How could he allow this?

Emily didn’t hold back either. She kicked Chase away and then waved her phone at Chase's manager. "I just recorded Chase's embarrassing moment. If I add a headline like: 'Brother beats his own sister for another woman,' who’s gonna still want to be his fan? What do you think? Would this make trending news?"

Chase's public image was that of a single man. If it was just revealed that he had a lover, fans might not react too strongly. But knowing he beat his own sister for a woman? That would be the end of his career.

Chase's manager was not as impulsive and stupid as Chase; otherwise, Chase wouldn't have reached his current status. He had witnessed Emily's kindness towards Chase. After hearing Emily's words, he nodded at her and forcefully dragged Chase away.

"Emily, wait for me. This isn't over. Delete those photos, or I'll have the Johnson family kick you out completely."

Chase dared to threaten her even as he was being dragged away.

Emily casually cleaned her ears, not caring at all.

Floyd, on the other hand, felt embarrassed. "Emily, I'm sorry. I didn't know these people were so unreasonable. And that guy, is he your brother? Does your family treat you poorly?"

Although Emily's medical skills were far superior to his, he still saw her as a junior due to her age. Seeing her words and Chase's attitude, Floyd felt a mix of guilt and pity.

Emily was no longer hurt by such things. She replied indifferently, "Mr. Ryan, you don't need to feel guilty. I stopped caring a long time ago. As for the treatment, it's their loss, not mine."

Floyd thought since Emily was here today, she could see patients. But before he could say anything, Emily's phone rang.

"Hello!" Seeing it was Sophia calling, Emily answered.

"Emily, something's wrong. Guess who I ran into? Eli. I heard he's here to adopt Liam. Why would he want to adopt Liam?"

Sophia was alarmed upon seeing Eli, feeling he was full of schemes. And how coincidental that Liam was someone Emily knew. Could Eli be trying to control Emily through this?

Sophia's imagination was quite vivid, and she was close to the truth.

"I'll be there right away. Please stall him, don't let him complete the adoption quickly."

As soon as Emily hung up, she received a call from the orphanage director, saying someone wanted to adopt Liam, without mentioning it was Eli. But she already knew. She asked the director to wait for her, saying she'd be there soon.

Emily immediately called Aaron, asking him to prepare all the adoption paperwork and have an adoptive couple head to the orphanage. She herself hurried to get a cab.

But when you're in a hurry, taxis are never around.

Emily's usually composed face showed rare signs of anxiety.

"Need a ride? I'll take you!"

Suddenly, a sleek Maybach pulled up beside Emily.

Accompanied by a magnetic voice, the window rolled down, revealing Daniel's cool, aloof face.

"Is it on the way? I'm headed to the orphanage on Willow Street," Emily asked.

"Just so happens, it is," Daniel replied in a deep voice.

Emily was relieved. "Awesome, thanks."

Without any hesitation, she got into the car.

Up front, York, the driver, couldn't help but glance at them through the rearview mirror after hearing Daniel's words. They were supposed to go north, while Willow Street was south. Completely opposite directions.

But he dared not speak. He quickly met Daniel's deep gaze and focused back on driving.

The car fell into a strange silence.

Emily felt she should repay the favor somehow. She tentatively spoke, "Mr. Smith, the doctor treating you told me that I'll be responsible for your diet and safety at home. Are you going to have dinner at home tonight? What would you like? I'll try to ensure it's nutritious and safe while catering to your tastes."

Daniel was amused by her use of a fake identity without changing her expression. He slightly smiled. "Yeah, I'll eat at home. I'm not picky; you decide."

"Alright!"

Emily awkwardly wondered if she should say more.

Daniel spoke again, "Why are you going to the orphanage? Is something wrong?"

He then politely apologized, "Sorry, I might be overstepping. If it's inconvenient..."

"It's not inconvenient. Before I returned to the Johnson family, I met a kind old man while picking up trash. He's gone now, but his grandson is in the orphanage, and he's not doing well. I want to bring him home."

Reborn, Emily was vengeful but maintained her basic humanity, repaying kindness.

This was taught to her by Elijah, the old man who collected scrap.

He sowed good deeds and reaped good results.

Daniel's deep eyes flashed with a hint of light.

She kept breaking people's perceptions of her, yet she wasn't annoying.

On the contrary, she had a strong personal charm.

"From what I understand, you don't meet the adoption criteria. Do you need my help?"

Daniel asked calmly.

Emily gratefully glanced at him, surprised he considered this and even offered help.

Who said Daniel was ruthless and unfeeling?

He was clearly kind-hearted and gentle.

"Thank you, but no need. I've considered this and have a plan." Emily declined his offer.

The drive was smooth, and they soon arrived at the orphanage.

"Mr. Smith, thank you. I'll make a delicious dinner to thank you tonight. You need rest, so no need to get out." Emily quickly got out and waved goodbye.

Daniel furrowed his brow, maintaining his usual indifferent demeanor, and stayed in the car.

As he was about to roll up the window and York parked the car, another vehicle arrived.

Emily rushed towards it.

Daniel paused, seeing a young man with a gentle smile leading a couple out of the car.

Emily greeted the young man naturally and relaxedly, a side Daniel had never seen.

Daniel's face darkened: Who is this guy? When did she have such a young man around her?

After all, his investigation hadn't revealed this.
