Chapter 61: Words Spoken in Anger Are the Most Truthful
"Chase, do you know her?" Emily asked as she looked at the woman lying on the hospital bed. The woman had dark circles under her eyes and was as thin as a wafer.
Despite her fragile state, it was clear from her bone structure and features that she was beautiful.
The woman heard Chase's words and struggled to lift her eyes to glance at Emily.
"Yeah, I know her. She's not some amazing doctor, just a girl we found in a heap of trash," Chase said, his cold expression softening when he heard Aurora Rivera's voice.
He turned to Emily. "I knew you were trouble, but I didn't expect you to turn out like this. I was planning to teach you a lesson when I got back. You're coming home with me."
His tone left no room for argument.
In the past, Emily would have apologized immediately and obediently followed.
But now, Emily had no intention of complying.
Her gaze lingered on the frail woman on the bed.
So this is the woman Chase likes?
In her previous life, she didn't know about Aurora at first. When her friend fell for Chase at first sight, she begged Emily for help.
Emily agreed to set them up.
If Chase had outright rejected her friend, it would have been better.
But he accepted her friend's affection, even married her, yet became cold and abusive when Aurora returned.
By the time Emily rescued Hayden and returned home, her friend had already left in despair.
When Chase regretted it and wanted to win her back, it was too late.
Unexpectedly, Chase and Aurora had rekindled their relationship so early.
If the problem was solely with Chase, if he was the only one who liked Aurora, Emily wouldn't have blamed Aurora.
But Aurora initially looked down on Chase for being just a minor celebrity. Later, when Chase became a Best Actor and his Johnson family background was revealed, Aurora, knowing Chase had a wife, still acted ambiguously towards him. That was her fault.
Thinking of this, Emily's expression grew colder.
"Chase, you should leave. It seems Emily doesn't like me very much. She probably knows you came to see me and deliberately asked to come here, pretending to be a doctor to harm me," Aurora said coldly to Chase, sensing Emily's displeasure.
Chase's gaze shot towards Emily.
He saw Emily coldly staring at Aurora, and his face darkened.
He stepped forward and grabbed Emily's wrist forcefully. "Who taught you to look at people like that? Apologize to Aurora immediately. And now, get back to the Johnson Villa and wait for me. You better listen, or don't blame me for being harsh when I get back."
Chase threatened coldly.
But as soon as he grabbed her wrist, Emily twisted his arm and held him in a painful grip.
"Emily, what are you doing? Let go of me. Are you crazy?" Chase shouted through gritted teeth, sweat forming on his forehead from the pain.
Aurora was startled by Emily's sudden action but quickly regained her composure.
Feigning concern, she said, "You don't need to show off in front of me. Chase being here is just a coincidence. If you don't want us to interact, take him away. Hurting him won't make me worry. My life or death has nothing to do with him. Take him away."
Aurora turned to Floyd with a sharp look. "Mr. Ryan, we trusted your medical skills. Even if you can't treat me, you shouldn't introduce such a young girl. You heard Chase admit she doesn't know anything about medicine. This is deceitful! We're done here. Vida, let's go."
She finished and firmly instructed her assistant, Vida.
"Yes, Ms. Rivera. I'll help you," Vida quickly stepped forward to support her.
"Emily, let go of me!" Chase struggled, trying to shake off Emily.
Emily suddenly released him, causing him to nearly stumble.
His agent quickly caught him, preventing him from hitting the wall.
Chase, now free, hurried after Aurora.
"Aurora, don't go. This is all Emily's fault. I'll teach her a lesson. Don't worry, if Mr. Ryan can't help you, I'll find a way to cure you."
Chase no longer maintained his usual aloof image, now resembling an awkward boy chasing his beloved.
Emily watched the scene unfold.
Aurora, playing hard to get, stepped back to avoid Chase's hand, her tone softening. "I appreciate your kindness. I know my condition well. I'll leave it to fate. I'll go now. Thank you for today."
She bit her lip and struggled to walk out.
"Wait!"
Floyd, who had been silent, called out to Aurora.
Though Floyd couldn't cure Aurora, he was a respected figure surrounded by skilled healers. She couldn't afford to disregard him.
Aurora, holding her frail body, asked with a pale face, "Mr. Ryan, is there something else?"
Floyd snorted coldly. "I don't mind you questioning my skills. I can't cure your illness, and I understand your resentment. But you shouldn't doubt Emily's medical abilities. Apologize!"
Aurora and Chase's faces changed.
Aurora dug her nails into Vida's flesh but stubbornly refused to apologize. "Mr. Ryan, I don't know how she deceived you, but I trust Chase. She lacks medical skills, and I won't apologize."
"You..." Floyd was infuriated, about to speak.
Emily stepped forward, smirking at Aurora. "I don't need a half-hearted apology. But you better find a good doctor soon, or your body will deteriorate beyond repair."
"Emily, you're vile, cursing Aurora. You need a lesson..." Chase, furious, raised his hand to slap Emily.
Emily, now quick to react, wouldn't stand there and take it.
She struck first, slapping Chase hard.
"You dare hit me? Are you insane?" Chase looked at Emily in disbelief.
As a celebrity, he always maintained his appearance. Emily's slap instantly swelled his face.
Feeling the pain on his face, he rushed to hit Emily. "I'll teach you a lesson today."
He thought the earlier slap was a fluke, catching him off guard.
Emily dodged while recording his furious, disheveled state on her phone.
"What are you doing? You trash heap reject..." Chase, enraged, spat out hurtful words.
Emily froze.
They say a man's words in anger reveal his true thoughts.
He never truly respected her. His past kindness was just a facade, a celebrity's act.
In her moment of distraction, Chase's slap landed on Emily's face.
