Chapter 44 Afraid of Not Being Able to Repay the Life-Saving Grace, So Offer Oneself in Marriage
"Get down!"
Emily shouted sharply as she yanked Daniel down with her.
Daniel didn't think twice. He knew she was warning him about something serious.
He grabbed Emily and rolled onto the ground as she directed.
In the next instant, the parked Maybach exploded.
Flames nearly swallowed them whole.
The massive shockwave left Emily's head spinning.
She blacked out for a moment but quickly regained consciousness.
She felt a heavy weight on her body and realized it was Daniel.
"Mr. Smith, Ms. Johnson, are you alright?"
York's voice was both professional and urgent.
Just as he was about to start the car, he heard the distinct sound of gasoline dripping.
There was no time to save those in the back seat; he had to protect himself by diving to the ground.
Before the flames reached him, he heard Emily's shout, "Get down," and clung to a shred of hope.
It seemed they had also heard the leaking gas.
Having escaped immediate danger, he ignored the pain from the burns on his back and began searching while shouting.
"York, we're over here."
Emily's voice brought a wave of relief.
York felt a mix of emotions; he was glad to hear Emily but worried because he hadn't heard Daniel.
Following Emily's voice, he quickly found them.
Daniel lay unconscious, eyes closed, heavily pressing down on Emily.
York suppressed his panic and hurriedly lifted Daniel.
"Ms. Johnson, are you okay?" York asked, concerned for Emily as well.
Emily's head was still spinning, likely from the shockwave.
But aside from that, she wasn't injured, thanks to Daniel who had shielded her.
His large hand had protected her head during the roll, preventing any injury.
"I'm fine, but hurry, lay Mr. Smith flat over there so I can check him."
Emily shook her head, her gaze troubled as she looked at the unconscious Daniel.
York carefully carried Daniel to a safer spot away from the fire.
Fortunately, Emily was wearing a t-shirt and long pants today, with her silver needles in her pocket.
She always carried them with her.
Now they were needed.
Emily first checked Daniel's pulse.
As she did, her expression grew darker.
Poisoned again?
How could this be?
Emily had warned Daniel about the danger around him.
He should have taken care of it.
But now there was another poison.
Because of the medicinal bath, it hadn't affected him.
But the explosion had caused trauma, allowing the poison to spread uncontrollably.
Emily took out her silver needles.
"Ms. Johnson!"
York hadn't expected her to have medical skills and carry silver needles.
His expression changed.
For a moment, he wondered if Emily had orchestrated all this.
An explosion!
Carrying silver needles.
Gaining Daniel's trust.
Emily spoke urgently to York, "Daniel's been poisoned again. The explosion disrupted his body's defenses. I need to stop the poison from spreading. Please trust me, don't stop me."
York hesitated.
More and more people were gathering around.
Such a big fire on the roadside caused a traffic jam.
Pedestrians couldn't help but watch.
Many had already taken out their phones to record.
"What happened? That's a luxury car. How did it catch fire? Can anyone survive?"
"Look, is that someone rescued from the car?"
An observant person spotted Emily and Daniel.
Emily's face was smudged, making her unrecognizable.
But Daniel's handsome face stood out clearly in the camera.
"He's so good-looking. He must be the car owner. I hope he's okay!"
Most people were kind-hearted, hoping for the best.
Seeing such a face, they couldn't help but pray for his safety.
Someone posted the video online, and it quickly gained attention.
Emily had no time to worry about this. She was anxious and spoke again, "York, I'm starting!"
York's stern expression conveyed a coldness only seen in someone who has faced danger.
Being Daniel's driver and assistant, he was likely also a bodyguard.
Such a person must be highly skilled.
Emily might not be able to take him on.
So she spoke again, seeking his approval.
She tightened her grip on the silver needles, ready to act if he refused.
York clenched his fists, still conflicted.
He couldn't gamble with Daniel's life.
If something happened to Daniel, the Smith family would be in turmoil, affecting countless companies and employees.
But Daniel's keen judgment meant he trusted Emily.
Just as York was ready to agree, Daniel's eyelashes fluttered, and he struggled to open his heavy eyelids.
"Do it... I trust you..."
Daniel managed to say, then coughed up blood.
Emily's face changed.
There was no time for York to hesitate now.
Without needing to remove his clothes, Emily's silver needles flew, accurately piercing Daniel's body.
York watched Emily's movements with tense, complex emotions.
Seeing the silver needles dance in her hands, York was surprised.
Emily was just an eighteen-year-old girl. How did she have such skills? Her medical expertise seemed impressive.
"Look, what's that girl doing? Are those silver needles?"
Someone pointed at Emily's actions, curious.
Seeing the silver needles in Emily's hand, people moved closer.
The original viral video was updated with a second one.
"This girl is using silver needles. Does anyone know if this can actually save someone?"
The video quickly went viral.
Bianca was about to go home and complain to Aiden about Ronnie's incident, hoping Aiden's company wouldn't employ someone who could bring trouble.
She was ready to use this opportunity to bring up Emily and seek revenge.
Just as she was about to call, a news alert popped up on her phone.
She accidentally clicked on it.
With Emily's face smudged and her hair covering most of it, Bianca didn’t recognize her.
Seeing the expert use of silver needles, Bianca realized this was a skilled person.
Then she saw the face of the man lying on the ground.
"Mr. Smith!" she exclaimed.
She hurriedly called James.
"James, check the news. Mr. Smith is in trouble. I'll send you the link."
