Chapter 43 This Little Girl Is Really Fortunate
"Mr. Smith, it's such an honor to have you visit the Reyes Group!" Isaac greeted enthusiastically, giving a slight bow.
He didn't feel the least bit embarrassed about his subservience. Probably because this was Daniel, the most powerful man in Emerald City.
Daniel nodded slightly, his gaze falling on Emily. "So, this is about Ms. Johnson? What a coincidence, we just happened to arrive together."
His tone was casual and familiar.
Isaac was taken aback by his words. It sounded like Daniel had planned to meet Emily all along. Wasn't Emily the daughter they had picked up from the trash heap? Timid and insecure, how could she know Daniel?
A woman valued by Daniel couldn't possibly be so foolish and meek. Byron stood up for Bianca, but was Bianca truly that innocent?
Isaac's thoughts raced, but he managed a smile. "So, Ms. Johnson and Mr. Smith had an appointment. My apologies for holding you up, Mr. Smith."
He even gave himself a light slap on the mouth, showing sincere regret.
"Mr. Smith, did you come here specifically for Ms. Johnson?" he probed further.
He had reluctantly signed the stock transfer agreement earlier, but now he realized it was a good thing he did. If he had gone head-to-head with Emily, knowing she had Daniel backing her, he wouldn't be able to compensate if Daniel got angry.
Now that she was a shareholder of the Reyes Group, she undoubtedly wanted the company to do well. This essentially meant the Reyes Group had a connection with Daniel.
Daniel's eyes swept over Isaac, who immediately felt an invisible pressure. He broke out in a cold sweat, instantly realizing he had overstepped. Daniel was not someone whose actions and thoughts could be casually inquired about by someone of his status.
Emily's heart skipped a beat at Isaac's question. She instinctively glanced at Daniel and met his deep, vortex-like eyes, as if they would draw her in completely. Impossible! She hurriedly looked away, feeling her thoughts were too self-indulgent and absurd.
"Mr. Smith, if you have matters to attend to, I should go to the hospital first. Your business is important." After all, someone like him could be handling billion-dollar projects at any moment. She couldn't afford to delay Daniel.
Isaac's ears perked up at the mention of the hospital, though he dared not look around. But his mind couldn't stop wandering. A man and a woman, previously scheduled to meet, and no known family connections. Could it be... pregnancy?
Isaac was startled by his own speculation. Regardless, he knew he had to be extra polite to Emily from now on.
"It's not urgent. Wait for me here, and we'll go together once I'm done," Daniel said in a deep voice. Though his expression remained calm and indifferent, Isaac sensed a difference. There was a hint of gentleness!
Since Daniel had spoken, Emily couldn't refuse.
Daniel's "a moment" was actually just a few minutes. A small project for him, something he usually wouldn't handle personally. But for the Reyes Group, it was a major project. Perhaps it was Daniel's overwhelming presence, or the sudden arrival of a big project, that left Isaac in a daze. He signed the contract in a few minutes.
"Let's go!"
A few minutes later, Daniel walked out calmly, nodding to Emily. Behind him, the dignified president of the Reyes Group followed like an assistant.
"Okay!" Emily took half a step back, following Daniel.
Daniel's expression remained calm, but his brow twitched slightly. His steps naturally slowed, allowing her to catch up and walk beside him. Emily didn't even notice this subtle gesture, but Isaac, trailing behind, did.
Indeed, Daniel treated Emily differently. Isaac couldn't help but secretly scrutinize Emily's appearance. How could she be so lucky? Despite her youthful face, her beauty was undeniable. If not for her slight immaturity and thinness, she would have been the talk of the town. No wonder Daniel recognized her potential so early on.
Isaac personally pressed the elevator button, sending the two off with a smile. "Mr. Smith, Ms. Johnson, take care."
"Wait!" Emily suddenly spoke just as the elevator doors were about to close.
"Ms. Johnson, any instructions?" Isaac's attitude was worlds apart from when he first met Emily. Emily knew it was because of Daniel's presence. This was good. Her entry into the Reyes Group would likely be much smoother now.
"About Byron, I'll..."
"No rush, no rush. He deserves some pain to learn his lesson. Come by tomorrow if you're free. No, call me tomorrow, and I'll have a driver pick you up." Isaac's flattery was blatant. But he didn't mind. He even enjoyed it.
Emily raised an eyebrow. "Alright!" As soon as she spoke, the elevator doors closed. The atmosphere suddenly became tense.
Emily thought for a moment and said, "Mr. Smith, thank you."
Daniel's six-foot frame made the 5.5-foot Emily seem even smaller. "Thank me for what?" He tilted his head slightly, looking down at her, making them appear even closer from York's perspective, as if Emily was nestled in his arms.
The height difference made Emily's heart race. She lowered her gaze, trying not to look into his eyes. His gaze was too deep, almost hypnotic, making her thoughts uncontrollable.
"Because of you, Mr. Reyes' attitude towards me has changed significantly. My entry into the Reyes Group will be much smoother thanks to you," Emily answered honestly.
Daniel raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised. He had worried she would suffer, but it seemed he had underestimated her capabilities. In a short time, she not only protected herself but also gained significant benefits.
"Helping you is my pleasure," Daniel said calmly.
Emily was taken aback. His tone was the same as usual. But why did these words feel so warm, making her ears turn red?
No wonder so many people wanted to become Daniel's wife. He not only possessed top-notch looks and power but also had the demeanor of a gentleman, knowing when to advance and retreat. He didn't even ask how she secured the job from Isaac.
In the confined space of the elevator, the silence made the atmosphere even more intimate. York felt the most uncomfortable. He felt he shouldn't be in the elevator but waiting in the car.
Fortunately, the elevator finally reached the ground floor. The car was parked by the curb. Despite Daniel's calm demeanor, York remembered how swiftly he had walked when they got out, giving him a deeper understanding. Daniel treated Emily differently.
York quickly opened the car door. Just as Daniel was about to get in, his face suddenly darkened. "Don't get in."
At that moment, Emily already had one foot inside. She paused at Daniel's words. Her ears twitched, catching the faint sound.
"Mr. Smith, get out!"
Emily's face changed. She reached out, grabbed Daniel's hand, and pulled him towards her with all her strength.
