Chapter 274 Borrowed a High-Interest Loan
Finn: [I heard you know where Emily is. Please tell me.]
Byron: [I can tell you, but what's in it for me?]
Finn was a bit confused.
Until Byron sent him a money-counting gesture.
Finn understood.
Finn: [Money's not a problem. Final offer - a hundred thousand dollars!]
The thing was, he'd already transferred all his money to Bianca.
When Byron saw this message offering a hundred thousand dollars, he couldn't help but curl his lip.
He thought to himself: So he's this broke? A hundred thousand dollars and he has the nerve to say that out loud. The Johnson family really is beneath notice.
He'd have to tell Isaac later that the Johnson family was done for. Unless Emily took over, they shouldn't continue working with the Johnson Group for now.
Finn had no idea that his casual remark almost bankrupted the Johnson Group.
Byron: [A hundred thousand dollars? What am I, a beggar? You're from the Johnson Group after all. With this little money, are you just poor yourself, or are you looking down on me?]
Finn thought this guy wasn't a good person either, actually complaining that a hundred thousand dollars was too little.
But he wouldn't admit to being poor.
If Finn hadn't made that mess when he went home, he could probably have gotten some money from anyone in his family.
But now, he figured he couldn't get money from anyone in his family.
Finn couldn't possibly ask Bianca for money at this point, even though he believed she would definitely give it to him if he asked.
But he wouldn't do that.
It could only be said that Finn greatly overestimated Bianca's generosity. Once money went into her pocket, how could it possibly come back out?
Finn replied: [Five hundred thousand dollars, final offer! I'm not just asking you for information. If you want more, then forget it!]
Although five hundred thousand dollars wasn't much to Byron.
But it was still money.
Besides, his main goal wasn't the money anyway. The money was just a bonus.
Byron: [Deal. Five hundred thousand dollars. Cash or transfer? Give me the money and I'll give you Emily's information!]
Finn didn't have the money to transfer right now.
Plus, he was afraid the guy would take the money and not deliver.
This was a perfect excuse to buy time to get the money.
Finn: [Cash, so you don't take the money and not give me the information!]
Byron didn't care whether he didn't have the money or was really afraid he wouldn't provide the information. Either way, even if Finn didn't want to meet him, he'd still find a way to lure him out.
Now that it came so easily, he naturally had no objections.
Byron: [Two PM, Lavender Fields Resort.]
Finn: [Okay!]
After settling things with Byron, Finn immediately tried to get the money.
He didn't realize his popularity was declining.
Now that he'd been gone so long and suddenly came back, coming back and immediately borrowing money from those friends - who would want to lend to him?
Finn made the rounds and only managed to borrow tens of thousands of dollars. Adding the two hundred thousand he had on hand, he was still short over two hundred thousand.
Finally, a buddy who also liked to party suggested: "Why don't you get a loan? I know a lender. With your status, borrowing a million dollars would be easy!"
This definitely wasn't a legitimate bank loan, and Finn naturally understood that, so he hesitated.
The guy continued to egg him on: "You just need money temporarily, and you've got the Johnson Group backing you. Even if you can't pay it back, someone will cover for you. What are you afraid of? This is just for emergencies. Plus, I think with your abilities, earning this money back quickly would be super easy!"
The reason this person was so eager to push Finn into borrowing was because he himself owed this lender quite a bit and couldn't pay it back at all. If he could lure Finn into taking a loan, the lender would give him a commission that could offset part of his debt and also buy him more time to repay.
After hearing this, Finn remembered he'd soon be competing, and if he won there'd be a two million dollar prize.
He was confident he could win this award.
So Finn immediately agreed with what the guy said.
"You're right. But I need it urgently. Can they release the funds right away?"
"Yes, yes! I'll contact them right now. They'll definitely sign the loan agreement with you immediately and release the money."
Hearing Finn's words, the guy could barely hide his excitement, afraid that if he responded too slowly, Finn would change his mind. He hung up and immediately contacted the lender.
Finn thought this person was really helpful. When signing the agreement, the guy kept distracting him, so Finn didn't fully read the contract terms. He only saw the repayment period and the interest rate of twenty-two percent. Although it was high, it was released quickly, so he accepted it.
The law stipulates it can't exceed twenty-four percent.
Moreover, this twenty-two percent wasn't an annual rate. Finn had never borrowed money before and had been too protected by his family. He couldn't calculate this at all. He just signed his name and got one million dollars.
That's right - he didn't borrow the twenty-five thousand he was short, or even the five hundred thousand Byron asked for, but one million dollars.
The guy flattered him and sweet-talked him a bit, and he actually took his suggestion.
He thought that since he hadn't hung out with his friends in so long, their relationships had grown distant. He decided they should all get together later, have dinner and such.
All of which would need money!
After getting the money, Finn first found a place to have a big meal, then went for a massage.
He really knew how to enjoy himself.
Emily had no idea that Byron and the others had only wanted to play a small trick on Finn, but Finn was digging his own grave.
After finishing the call with Sophia, she felt refreshed and didn't plan to sleep. She got up and continued making medicine.
Hearing the noise, Wren quickly came to help.
This made Emily feel bad. "Why don't you sleep a bit more? I'm feeling much better today, and there's not much I need your help with."
Wren smiled. "This little bit of work isn't tiring at all. You're a patient and you're so energetic - what about me? Besides, being with you, I've learned so much. I can't miss this opportunity."
Seeing Wren say this, Emily didn't say anything more.
Matilda had been watching over Emily, and seeing her get up and start working again, she reported the situation to Daniel.
Soon, there was a knock at the door.
Emily instinctively became alert.
Fortunately, it was breakfast being delivered.
And the breakfast was quite abundant. Matilda personally took the breakfast cart, pushed it into the room, and following Daniel's instructions, reminded Emily, "Ms. Johnson, your health is important. Please have breakfast first! Mr. Smith had all this prepared. Since he didn't know what you wanted for breakfast, he prepared a bit of everything."
"Mr. Smith is so thoughtful!"
Wren had heard plenty about Daniel's legendary status. To her, such a distant figure now seemed somewhat down-to-earth. She couldn't help but sigh, and even winked at Emily suggestively.
Indeed, only someone as outstanding as Emily could match someone like Daniel.
Emily had only been grateful for Daniel's care, but when Wren winked at her suggestively, she actually felt a bit embarrassed.
After all, in her previous life, Wren was someone she'd treated as a good friend.
"Alright, stop looking at me. Look at the breakfast. Take whatever you want to eat. The three of us probably can't finish all this anyway. Matilda, you join us too!"
Emily wasn't one to be polite. The two of them obediently took some breakfast and quickly ate.
After breakfast, Emily continued making medicine.
Finally, over an hour later, she finished making the pills.
Even though she looked somewhat tired, her face was full of joy.
"Matilda, quick! Notify Mr. Smith and have him come try the medicine!"
