Chapter 257 These People Are Simply Beasts
"Alright, the man is yours. The woman, I'm taking with me. A woman this beautiful is rare even outside. I'm going to enjoy myself."
Yosef smiled wickedly, his eyes fixed on Emily without looking away.
The village chief immediately responded, "Yosef, you go ahead and enjoy yourself. We'll handle things here."
Yosef's father, Everett Stevens, warned sternly, "A woman like this is rare. If she's obedient, you can keep her. But if she's not, she can still fetch a good price. Don't ruin her."
Yosef waved dismissively, "Dad, don't worry! It won't affect her later use."
With that, he hoisted Emily over his shoulder and headed out.
As for York, he was lifted onto a tricycle and taken somewhere else.
Emily kept her consciousness clear. Hearing their conversation, she had already sentenced this group to death in her mind.
What these people were doing deserved the cruelest punishment imaginable.
When she was thrown onto the bed and the door closed, Emily heard only one person's breathing.
As Yosef got closer to the bed, Emily clenched her fists, ready to open her eyes and strike.
But suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
"Who is it? What do you want? This better be important, or you'll pay for interrupting me!"
The interrupted Yosef was furious.
The person at the door had clearly witnessed Yosef's cruelty before, as their voice trembled, "Mr. Stevens, Sofia seems to have come around. She says she's willing to marry you."
Before Emily arrived, Yosef had been quite obsessed with Sofia - her smooth skin, her youth, her education, her scholarly air.
Now that he'd seen Emily, his obsession wasn't as strong.
But thinking about all the time he'd wasted, and now that his goal was within reach, the woman on the bed was already his anyway.
Yosef replied, "Fine, I'll be right there!"
He opened the door directly.
He looked back at Emily on the bed, "I haven't had this woman yet. Don't any of you get ideas. Watch her carefully, understand?"
"Don't worry, Mr. Stevens. We'll make sure she's well guarded."
Only after Yosef left did Emily open her eyes.
A cold smile curved her lips as she walked step by step toward the door.
The guards at the door indeed didn't dare enter.
But they complained plenty.
"What a waste, that woman inside. When Yosef carried her in, I snuck a peek. She's even prettier than Sofia. Wonder when Yosef will get tired of her so we can have a turn."
"You think you're the only one who wants her? You think we don't? Things have been tight lately, no new women. We haven't had a woman in ages. Once this batch of goods is out, we'll go have some fun. Don't fixate on this woman - she's so beautiful, I bet Yosef won't get tired of her anytime soon."
"Different fates for different people. We do all the hard work, but why does Yosef get first pick of the good women and stuff? It's not fair!"
"Shh, keep it down! If Yosef hears you, you'll be in deep trouble. You want to talk about fair? Think about those kidnapped kids and women."
Through the fragments of conversation from Yosef and the others earlier, Emily had already figured out that these people weren't just making drugs - they were also trafficking people. This conversation confirmed it.
Emily's expression was dark and complex.
There were likely many women and children held here. She alone probably couldn't rescue them all.
She pressed her hand on the bracelet Daniel had given her. It had a transmitter that could pinpoint her location and send a distress signal.
She hesitated - should she press it now, or wait?
In the end, Emily held back.
She only had one chance. She couldn't waste it now.
Things were still under control for now.
After thinking it through, Emily stopped hesitating and got up to walk to the door.
She needed to quietly take out the two guards first.
These people probably had patrols too.
Whatever decision Emily made, every step had to be careful - no room for error.
Just as Emily reached the door, about to pretend weakness and knock, voices came from outside first.
"Sofia, what are you doing here? Ah..."
The two men who had just been eagerly discussing women suddenly cried out sharply.
Then came groaning sounds, followed by the sound of bodies hitting the floor.
Emily frowned.
The door opened. For safety, Emily's first instinct was to subdue whoever it was.
When her hand grabbed the throat of the person opening the door, the person with them stumbled back two steps, looking at Emily warily, "Are you and Yosef working together? Let go! And here we were trying to save you out of kindness, only to get ourselves in trouble."
"Emily..."
The person whose throat was grabbed was Sofia. When she saw clearly that it was Emily, she was both happy and scared.
Emily also saw clearly that it was Sofia and released her grip, "Sofia!"
"Emily, what are you doing here? You shouldn't have come here!"
She'd heard that Yosef had caught a man and a woman, thinking they were a couple who had wandered in by mistake. She never imagined it would be Emily.
Emily must have returned from abroad, found them all missing, and come looking.
But this place was a prison. Once you came, leaving was nearly impossible.
Especially for a beautiful woman like Emily.
"Never mind how I got here. Since you've lured him away and he didn't see you, he'll probably be back soon. We need to leave here first, then figure things out!"
Emily remained calm as she spoke.
"We can't leave!"
The person next to Sofia, hearing Emily's words and knowing she was Sofia's acquaintance, answered honestly.
Under Emily's gaze, she explained, "There are patrols on rotation here. All the exits are blocked. Leaving is impossible!"
Emily naturally knew this.
She and York had studied the terrain map on the way in. Knowing this place was dangerous, she'd already anticipated it.
However, while others might find it difficult, Emily knew medicine, which made it much easier for her to get out.
"What about going up the mountain?"
Emily asked seriously.
Sofia replied gravely, "The mountain offers a slim chance, but only slim. The insects there are poisonous, and there are wild animals. Even if you could outlast their patience in searching, you probably wouldn't survive to escape!"
Emily needed exactly those medicinal plants. Not only was she not afraid, she pulled Sofia along, "Then let's head up the mountain first. We'll have time to discuss the rest once we're there!"
Without giving them time to hesitate, she pulled them both away.
But before leaving, Emily stuck a few needles into the two men.
This way, even when they woke up, they'd never be able to get it up again, and every night they'd suffer pain like being bitten by countless insects.
If there had been more time, Emily felt even this punishment wasn't enough.
Fortunately, Emily didn't waste time on these matters. They had just left when Yosef returned with his men.
