Chapter 219: The Slap Felt Satisfying
"What the hell is going on here?!"
Emily recognized Hayden's voice and kicked the door open.
Hayden heard the door slam and instinctively crouched in the corner, trembling with his hands over his head.
Seeing this, Emily couldn't help but let out a snicker.
The expected pain didn't come, and instead, he heard a familiar voice.
Hayden finally mustered the courage to look up, and this time, he saw Emily's face clearly.
He jumped up and grabbed Emily, "You're here to take me back, right? Who is this guy? Is he with you? Can you control your people? I shouldn't have expected much from you."
Hayden, used to venting his emotions on Emily, finally escaped his cage and immediately unleashed his anger on her.
Emily was no longer the person who yearned for family affection. She wouldn't tolerate it.
She slapped Hayden across the face, "Are you awake now?"
"Emily, you bi—"
Emily slapped him again, "Are you awake now?"
Hayden was burning with rage, still not seeing reality clearly, and cursed again, "How dare you hit—"
Emily slapped him once more.
Hayden opened his mouth, and Emily raised her hand again.
This time, he quickly covered his face and shut his mouth.
Emily looked at Hayden with disdain and sneered, "Idiot, haven't you realized the situation yet? Do you think you're safe here if I don't intervene? You're worth a hundred million dollars walking around. What do you think?"
Hayden was furious but didn't dare to curse out loud.
He could only suppress his anger and replied in as calm a tone as possible, "Since you're here to save me, and went to all this trouble, of course, you'll take me back. And I don't believe you're doing this out of kindness. You must have gotten something in return, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't know someone offered a hundred million dollars for me. Did you get that money from Mom and Dad? You're so greedy!"
"A hundred million dollars? If the Johnson family could really come up with that, do you think I'd be the one here? And if the Johnson family really offered a hundred million dollars, wouldn't those people in the park ask for two hundred million, or even more? You've been in the park, how can you still be so naive?"
Emily looked at Hayden like he was a fool.
Hayden couldn't stand that look, and perhaps even more couldn't accept that his own family would rather let something happen to him than gamble on the park people's goodwill with a hundred million dollars.
He might be the one abandoned.
Emily was shorter than Hayden, but at this moment, her natural aura made her look down on him like a superior.
"Of course, the Johnson family didn't completely abandon you. They've been asking for help everywhere, but when that didn't work, they offered me twenty percent of the shares and ten million dollars. I signed the contract and agreed to save you."
Emily looked at Hayden indifferently, "If you want to live, you'd better follow the arrangements."
Hayden seemed to gain some confidence.
Hearing that Emily was indeed doing this for money, he started talking tough, seemingly forgetting the slaps just now.
He raised his head, looked at Emily with disdain, "You're doing this for money, and you dare treat me like this. I'm Hayden, and you only saved me for money. You're so ungrateful. Now, I want a bath, and prepare the best food for me. Also, get a doctor to check my injuries. You have to meet all my demands!"
"Are you nuts?"
Zander couldn't hold back anymore, even though he didn't know the whole story. But Hayden's attitude and the nasty things he said made it clear he didn't care about Emily at all.
So Zander stepped up, "Emily risked her life to save you. Your shares and ten million bucks wouldn’t mean squat if she hadn’t. What are you so proud of?"
"If she wants the money, risking her life is part of the deal. If my family had hired mercenaries or bodyguards, I wouldn't have been rescued so miserably!"
Hayden was arrogant and boastful.
Emily suddenly smiled.
Then she said to Zander, "Since he feels that way, let's bail. Don't waste your time on him!"
Emily waved for Zander to follow and turned to leave.
This move left Hayden stunned.
He knew that as long as he was still in this place and hadn't boarded the plane back home, he could be captured again at any time.
Finally, he started to panic.
"Emily, stop! You can't leave. You're supposed to do your job. If you don't get me out, Mom, Dad, Aiden, and Chase won't let you off."
Emily paused and turned back, her eyes cold and sharp, "Still daring to threaten me? I forgot to tell you, the contract says to bring you back. Only then will the money and shares be transferred. I haven't received the money yet, so I can stop rescuing you anytime. So what if I leave you now?"
Hayden's face turned very ugly at these words.
Emily continued, "Do you think anyone else will save you? The Johnson family? Or your precious Bianca? Don't be naive. The park kidnappers gave the Johnson family three days. On the first day, I said if they gave me twenty percent shares, I could try to save you. Guess what?"
Hayden shook his head, muttering disbelief.
Emily enjoyed watching his firm beliefs crumble, just like in her previous life, "No one was willing to give up shares to save you. So they dragged it out until the last day, trying to use public opinion to force me to save you. I used their own tactics against them. For the sake of the Johnson Group's reputation, under pressure from the internet, they finally agreed to give me twenty percent shares."
"You're lying. It's impossible. You just can’t stand seeing our family together and want to drive a wedge between us. I won't fall for it!"
Emily waved her hand dismissively, "Believe what you want. My patience is limited. I'll ask you one question. Will you follow the arrangements or not? If not, I won't bother saving you!"
She indeed regretted saving him a bit. Though twenty percent shares and ten million dollars were within reach, it almost cost Daniel his life. And she owed Knox a favor now. A huge loss!
Hayden thought about the torture he endured in the park, the daily screams of agony he heard, and he trembled, with no courage to return to that place.
At worst, he would punish Emily for her attitude towards him once they were back. He would make sure Emily regretted treating him this way. And she shouldn't expect him or the family to look at her differently.
"I'll follow."
He lowered his head and replied sullenly.
Emily could see his reluctance. To prevent him from causing trouble, she gave him an injection before leaving.
Hayden's eyes burned with anger, glaring at Emily in silent protest.
"What are you glaring at? Let's go!"
Emily checked the time. They had less than half an hour left.
