Chapter 158 Tricked Aiden
"Hey Wren, come over here. I wanna ask you something. What do you think about Chase now?" Emily motioned for Wren to sit next to her on the bed.
Wren looked confused by Emily's question, trying to figure out what was on her mind. "What do I think of him? Honestly, I don't really hold any grudges. You know me, Em. With all my training and those silver needles, I can handle myself. I'm just glad it was me Chase ran into that night. If it had been another girl, she might not have been so lucky. Chase can be such a pain, getting drunk and acting like that!"
Wren had always been raised with the values of healing and helping others, instilled with a sense of resilience and kindness. It was no surprise that in her past life, Chase eventually fell for her, though he realized it too late.
Emily couldn't help but hug Wren, gently patting her back. "You're so kind and good-hearted."
Wren blushed at the compliment. "You're the one doing amazing things, Emily. I should be learning from you!"
Emily, not one for mutual flattery, quickly shifted the conversation back to Chase. Once she was sure Wren had no romantic interest in him, she felt relieved.
"So, what are your plans for the future?" Emily asked.
"Honestly, I haven't decided yet. I just want to keep helping and healing people, no matter where I am," Wren replied, shaking her head.
Emily thought for a moment. "I have an idea. I'm planning to start a medical research lab, and I need someone like you."
Emily trusted Wren's capabilities. Although she could manage the research on her own, having Wren would speed up the process. Plus, she wanted to make up for their past life and ensure Wren learned as much as possible.
Wren knew Emily's skills and was certain that working with her would be an incredible learning opportunity. "I’d love to!" she said without hesitation.
Emily was pleased but still gave Wren some time to think it over. "You don’t have to decide right away. Even if you change your mind later, just let me know. Discuss it with your family if you need to."
Wren nodded, "Alright."
After their conversation, Emily left Wren's room and returned to her own, where she received a call from Terry.
"Ms. Johnson, how is it that you’re so smart while the rest of the Johnson family seems to lack basic common sense? Did you inherit all the brains while they got all the bad traits?"
Emily chuckled at Terry's rant. "You didn't call just to flatter me, did you?"
Terry continued, "You know me well, Ms. Johnson. I’m not flattering you, just stating the truth. Anyway, Aiden’s team is even worse than I thought. Have you heard of Ronnie? He acts like he’s in charge and expects everyone to follow his lead. I tried to suggest a better approach to speed things up, but he shot me down and mocked my skills. Questioning my looks is one thing, but my abilities? No way. So, Ms. Johnson, I’m coming back. You’ll still have me, right?"
Emily knew Terry was essential to her team. "Of course, you can come back anytime. Just keep your identity under wraps until the project is done."
"Don’t worry, I’ve set things up so that Aiden won't suspect a thing. In fact, he’ll probably feel guilty."
Emily was curious about what Terry had done. It turned out he had handed in his resignation and left, but not before planting a few seeds of discord.
Aiden, prompted by Emily’s “reminder,” went straight to the company’s AI team office after Terry left. Ronnie was there, cursing under his breath because their project had hit another snag.
The other engineers, exhausted from constant overtime, were disheartened. One of them suggested, "Mr. Ford, why don’t we try Terry’s idea? It might work."
Others quickly agreed, sensing that Terry’s approach had potential. Ronnie, reluctant to admit his mistake, finally conceded. "Alright, let’s give it a shot."
To everyone’s relief, the project made progress. "This is great! I knew someone hired by Mr. Johnson had to be competent," one engineer exclaimed.
Ronnie, however, was not pleased. He tried to claim credit, saying, "I had the same idea but dismissed it earlier. Terry’s resignation just shows his poor work ethic."
The room fell silent, unsure whether to believe him or just shocked by his audacity. Just then, Aiden walked in and caught the tail end of the conversation.
"Who resigned?" he demanded, scanning the room.
Ronnie, feeling emboldened by his connection to Bianca, replied confidently, "Someone insignificant. In fact, we’ve made progress since he left."
Aiden, eager for success, was pleased. "Great! Let's keep the momentum going. Bonuses all around once we finish."
But someone couldn’t resist pointing out, "Mr. Ford, didn’t you say this method wouldn’t work? If you’ve already planned the next steps, won’t we hit another roadblock?"
The tension in the room was palpable as everyone waited for Ronnie’s response.
