Chapter 157 He Tempts Her Bit by Bit

Chapter 157 He Tempts Her Bit by Bit

"How'd you get in here?"

Emily glanced at the speaker. A stranger. She didn't know him. But she recognized the person who came in with him. It was Daniel.

In her rush, Emily had completely forgotten about Daniel.

"I came with you, so naturally, I'm sticking around till the end," Daniel said, looking at Emily.

Emily wasn't sure if she was imagining things, but she thought she saw a hint of grievance in his eyes. Like a little puppy that had been abandoned.

She quickly dismissed such a thought, avoiding his gaze, and replied, "Thanks. Who's this with you?"

Daniel answered, "A lawyer. Figured you might need one. Listening to Mr. Johnson just now, seems I was right."

That’s why he was called a legend. She hadn't even told him what was going on, yet he seemed to have a sixth sense about it.

"I'll leave the rest to you," Daniel said to the lawyer, Stanley Ortiz.

Stanley was a top-notch criminal lawyer. A small case like this was a piece of cake for him. For anyone else, he might not have even bothered.

"Don't worry!" Stanley replied confidently.

Emily quickly realized how significant Stanley was. When Stanley approached the police and met the lawyer Aiden had brought, the other lawyer looked like a rookie, treating Stanley with deference and fear.

"It's late. Let's head home," Daniel suggested.

Emily grabbed Wren and prepared to leave. But Aiden quickly followed them out.

"Emily!"

Hearing her name, Emily paused. She gave Wren a look, signaling her to get in the car first. Then she turned to Aiden, "What do you want to say? If you're here to plead for Chase, don't bother. Instead, you should advise Chase to be more cautious. As a public figure, he should be more careful with his actions. His reckless behavior will only lead to his downfall."

The entertainment industry is a place of fame and fortune, with plenty of opportunities to make money. But it's also full of temptations. If Chase has such a character, there will soon be new traps waiting for him.

In her previous life, perhaps because she had seen many celebrities fall from grace, she constantly reminded Chase to be cautious. He eventually grew tired of her warnings. But in the end, her advice saved him at a critical moment, allowing his career to thrive.

"He made mistakes, but he's still your brother. Helping an outsider to make things difficult for your brother, isn't that too cold-hearted?"

"Aiden!" Emily raised her voice, "Don't take the moral high ground. After all, in your eyes, I never had any morals. You should focus on the company instead. Otherwise, you might not be able to handle the mess in the Johnson family."

"What do you mean?"

"I've said all I need to say," Emily replied and got into the car.

Aiden wanted to continue questioning her. Daniel, who had been silent, spoke up, his presence imposing, "Stop bothering Emily. If you don't care about her, someone else does. If she gets hurt again, I will step in!"

He openly admitted his feelings for Emily. Faced with Daniel's imposing presence, Aiden opened his mouth but couldn't say a word. He could only step back in fear, letting Emily's car leave.

Emily took Wren back to the villa.

Daniel didn't leave immediately. Wren could tell he had something to say to Emily and quickly excused herself.

Before leaving, out of Daniel's sight, Wren gave Emily a playful wink, as if saying, "Make the most of it!"

Emily blushed. She thanked Daniel as usual, "Thanks again for today. I feel like I owe you a lot. If there's anything you need, let me know, and I'll see what I can do."

She wasn't good at owing favors. Owing someone made her uneasy, so she wanted to repay the favor as soon as possible to feel at ease. This was a way of keeping her distance.

Daniel sighed inwardly. It seemed she had a lot on her mind and found it hard to open up. He had a long way to go.

He leaned in slightly, closing the distance between them. They could almost smell each other's faint scents. Emily found his scent as enticing as he was. Her heart raced, and she felt a bit flustered. This feeling made her step back a little.

"Any request?" Daniel noticed her reaction but didn't mention it. He smiled warmly, like ice melting in the sun.

Emily's ears turned a bit red, imagining who knows what.

"Not exactly. It has to be reasonable and something I can do."

Daniel saw through her thoughts. He chuckled, his voice magnetic and alluring, "Don't worry, it's nothing too difficult. I need to visit Smith Villa soon. But you know, with people secretly targeting me, poisoning is too covert. I'm not comfortable going alone. So, I wanted to ask if you could come with me. Would you?"

Emily was taken aback. She hadn't expected this request. She thought about the times Daniel had been poisoned. He had skilled doctors around him, yet he was still poisoned. The mastermind behind it was indeed clever. And since she was treating his condition, it was best for her as a doctor to be there to prevent further harm.

Understanding this, Emily didn't hesitate, "Okay, I agree. When?"

"Tomorrow. But to avoid alerting anyone, you might have to pretend to be my girlfriend. If possible, it would be great if you could identify the person plotting against me. Money is not an issue!"

Daniel was treating Emily as a highly skilled doctor. Emily sensed this. She wasn't surprised that he figured out her true identity so quickly. Since he didn't mention it, she wouldn't reveal it either.

Pretending to be his girlfriend felt a bit ambiguous. Emily met Daniel's gaze. His deep eyes held a hint of anticipation, making it hard for Emily to refuse.

"Alright."

"Great, I'll pick you up tomorrow."

Daniel tried to suppress his smile as he spoke to Emily. Emily nodded. Then she waved goodbye and went inside.

Daniel stood by his car, the surroundings quiet except for his breathing. He leaned against the car, his long legs casting a long shadow in the light. His determined smile lingered until Emily was out of sight. Daniel stood for a long time before finally heading back to his villa.

Emily was unaware of this. After returning, she went straight to find Wren. In her previous life, Wren and Chase didn't interact this way. This life had changed, but fate still brought them together. Emily couldn't help but worry. She needed to gauge Wren's thoughts.
