Chapter 133: How Could This Happen, I Shouldn't Be Vomiting Blood
"Dr. Johnson, you're really laying it on thick," Emily said with a grin as several big names in the medical field walked in.
Anyone with even a basic knowledge of medicine would recognize these individuals. Even those who weren't familiar with the medical world but occasionally watched the news would recognize at least one of them from TV.
Bianca's face went pale. She bit her lip, trying to calm herself down. Emily had to be pulling some kind of trick. Maybe these people didn't actually know who the mysterious doctor was. Regardless, she refused to believe Emily was the highly skilled doctor everyone was talking about.
"Dr. Ryan, what are you doing here? You can't just show up because Emily was your pharmacy student and let her convince you to give false testimony," Bianca said, trying to discredit Floyd before he could speak.
Floyd scoffed, "I remember you well, always full of lies. Last time, you questioned Emily's skills in the same way and learned nothing from the experience. Now, you're letting someone impersonate a highly skilled doctor. You have no medical ethics and don't deserve to be a doctor."
His words were cutting, and Bianca staggered back, her eyes welling up.
"Dr. Ryan, I already explained that last time was a misunderstanding. I was only trying to help Emily. Are you really going to hold a grudge over a small incident and help Emily lie? Medical skills don't lie. If she can cure Ms. Rivera's illness, which you couldn't, then Dwayne must be the highly skilled doctor."
James supported Bianca as she stumbled. His eyes were sharp as he looked at Floyd. "Dr. Ryan, right? Emily has always been jealous of Bianca because of her past. Maybe you've misjudged Bianca. This doctor is genuinely skilled."
Chase, seeing James speak, believed their words. He turned to Floyd, "Dr. Ryan, don't ruin your reputation because of Emily. You'll regret it. Don't stop Dr. Larson from treating my friend."
"Dwayne, Floyd might not know you, but he knows me, right?"
Dwayne's expression changed when he saw Floyd. He knew Floyd, even if Floyd didn't know him, and felt very nervous. But with James from the Smith family backing him, he decided to continue the act.
At that moment, another elderly man, famous in the medical field, stepped forward. When Dwayne saw Efrain, his face turned pale. He quickly approached, "Dr. Hubbard, why are you here? I just happened to find some insights in an ancient text about this illness. Otherwise, no one else could treat it. We should focus on treating the patient first."
Dwayne almost bowed to Efrain, but James' warning look stopped him. Weighing his options, he chose his words carefully.
Efrain didn't expect Dwayne to continue denying his mistakes. Emily stepped forward, reminding Chase, "I'm telling you straight, this guy is a fraud. Are you sure you want him to treat Aurora?"
"Chase, don't you trust me?" Bianca looked at Chase, as if she would break ties with him if he shook his head.
Thinking of Bianca's kindness, Chase chose to believe her. "Of course, I trust Bianca wouldn't lie to me, and her teacher wouldn't either."
"Alright, let's see how you treat her then!" Emily stayed but decided not to intervene.
Dwayne, feeling the pressure, knew he had to cure Aurora to avoid any further issues. He quickly checked her pulse. His strong desire to win clouded his judgment, and he missed a subtle sign.
Confidently, he said, "I can cure her. With acupuncture and the prescription I'll write, she'll be fine."
Chase's last doubts vanished, and he urged, "Great! Please treat her quickly. Money is no issue."
Dwayne nodded, "Don't worry. I'm sincere in treating patients. Just watch me cure her."
He began the acupuncture, and Aurora's complexion visibly improved. Bianca felt everything was going well and shot a challenging look at Emily.
"Chase, I told you Dr. Larson could do it. But can you not be too harsh on Emily? Everything happened because she dislikes me. I'm willing to take the blame for her. As long as it helps you and Ms. Rivera, it's worth it."
James relaxed and spoke confidently, "Emily, see? This is a capable doctor. You should apologize to Dr. Larson and Bianca for the misunderstanding and the trouble it caused them."
"She hasn't cured her yet, and you're already jumping to conclusions. Anyone would think you're Emily's enemies. It's good she cut ties with you."
"Dwayne, I've never heard of your reputation. Just because you can treat this illness doesn't mean you're truly skilled."
The medical experts sided with Emily, having witnessed her true skills. Bianca's eyes were filled with jealousy and hatred towards Emily.
"Emily, you don't need to apologize to me. We're family, even if you're hostile towards me. But you must apologize to Dr. Larson for questioning him. I'll persuade him to forgive you."
"Apologize? We'll see who needs to apologize," Emily said coldly, glancing at Aurora. She noticed Dwayne had made a mistake with one of the needles. Aurora's face, which had just improved, turned pale again.
Chase panicked, "What's happening? Dr. Larson, did you make a mistake?"
Even Bianca realized something was wrong. She clenched her fingers, her face grim, and started to worry. Just as Bianca considered stopping him, Aurora suddenly vomited a mouthful of black blood.
"Aurora!" Chase's face turned pale as he rushed to her, finding her unconscious.
Chase grabbed Dwayne's collar, "You said you could cure her. Why is she vomiting blood? Are you a fake doctor? If you lied to me, I'll make you pay!"
Dwayne, shaken and covered in Aurora's blood, trembled, unable to continue the acupuncture. Terrified by Chase's threat, he stammered, "Don't ask me. I don't know. I'm not the highly skilled doctor. I just read about this illness. I'm sure I didn't make a mistake. Why is she vomiting blood? It shouldn't happen!"
His last words were more to himself.
