Chapter 91
Benjamin ignored Eugene and raised an eyebrow at Mabel, signaling her to continue.
"I need to know the exact amount. Otherwise, if I win more money in the end, how am I supposed to ask him for it?"
Mabel's expression was calm, but her attitude was meticulous about every detail.
Eugene sneered, "Big words. So confident you'll win? If you lose..."
"I won't lose to you." She glanced at him without continuing, but her eyes showed clear disdain.
Obviously, the reason she wouldn't lose was simple - she didn't think much of him.
Everyone around gasped, but Eugene's expression didn't change much. Instead, he smiled.
"Your confidence is quite impressive."
He sat down on the sofa, his fingers lightly tapping the armrest. "Ten million dollars, within three hours. If you win more than ten million, I'll transfer it all to your account."
The slight curl of Eugene's lips showed he clearly didn't believe she had that ability.
Evelyn looked at Mabel curiously.
She knew Benjamin never did anything unprepared. Even if Mabel lost, it didn't seem like it would affect them much. He couldn't possibly pressure Samuel like last time, could he?
But...
Benjamin was making quite a scene this time.
If Benjamin really upset Samuel, their friendship might be over.
"I'm going to watch them play cards." She didn't sit on the sofa with Benjamin, but had someone bring a stool and sat down next to Mabel.
She only had a vague understanding of card gambling and didn't really understand many of the rules.
As for Mabel...
Looking at Mabel's ethereally beautiful face, Evelyn suspected Mabel's card-playing skills were even worse than hers.
But when Mabel's hand touched the cards, Evelyn realized something was off.
Mabel's skilled movements clearly showed this wasn't her first time playing cards.
Eugene, sitting with Benjamin, showed the same surprise on his face.
His eyes narrowed slightly, with a hint of coldness. "She doesn't look like a beginner."
"When betting with Mr. Martinez, how could I use someone who doesn't know how to gamble?" Benjamin said lightly.
From the beginning, no one had said Mabel was new to card playing.
It was just that her face was too deceptive, making everyone assume she did not know this area.
The result was truly unexpected.
"No wonder Mr. White agreed so readily. Turns out you already expected this outcome."
"I have no grudge against you. No need to take your life."
Was Benjamin so certain that Samuel could easily finish off Eugene?
Eugene's expression didn't look good, but he didn't say anything in the end.
Evelyn didn't understand much, but Eugene's serious expression was enough to let her know that Mabel wouldn't lose.
Not understanding made it boring, and she couldn't help yawning.
Before long, she got up and sat down next to Benjamin. "I want to sleep for a bit."
She leaned on Benjamin's shoulder, and he naturally put his arm around her, letting her rest more comfortably.
Eugene's eyes suddenly deepened, his tone carrying a hint of coldness. "Everyone says Ms. Thomas and Mr. White don't get along. Looks like the rumors aren't reliable."
Evelyn had just been needled by him repeatedly and didn't want to deal with him now.
She leaned into Benjamin's embrace and fell asleep peacefully.
He looked down at Evelyn in his arms, his expression softening.
"Indeed, not reliable. The outside world says the Martinez family has no successor - they don't know you're also part of the Martinez family, do they?"
Evelyn, leaning in Benjamin's embrace, her eyelashes fluttered slightly.
If she hadn't come today, she wouldn't have known Eugene was part of the Martinez family. Probably many people didn't know Eugene's identity.
But how could a perfectly fine person change so much?
While she was thinking, a loud crash startled Evelyn.
As Benjamin gently patted her back, Samuel's voice rang out.
"This is how you save Celeste?"
Samuel glanced at the confused Evelyn in Benjamin's arms and smiled wickedly.
"So afraid something will happen to my cousin? Makes sense - she's your future wife, you should be careful."
Evelyn: "..."
Why was everyone reminding her about Celeste and Benjamin's relationship?
But she felt like Samuel was saying this to make her and Benjamin fight.
Did she really seem that unreasonable?
She stayed silent for a few seconds before speaking. "Mr. Harris, I am Benjamin's legitimate fiancée."
"What others want to do, I can't control."
"But given your relationship with him, I'll still give you a reminder - go back and advise the Harris family, so everyone can save face."
Evelyn's tone was polite, but she was asserting her position while showing disdain for the Harris family's tactics.
Samuel glanced at her, sneered, and fixed his gaze on Benjamin.
"Let Evelyn gamble instead."
"She doesn't know how."
Benjamin's matter-of-fact tone made it seem like he only let Mabel play because of her high gambling skills, without mentioning what might happen if they lost.
Samuel could get this angry - he obviously knew about their bet.
He looked at Eugene darkly. "I'm taking her away."
Eugene looked at Samuel and suddenly smiled. "Mr. Harris, when something's already decided, it's not convenient to keep changing it, right? Besides, Mr. White suggested that the Simpson family's marriage partner be changed to Mabel. I think that's a great suggestion..."
The table in front of him was kicked over by Samuel.
He still had a smile on his face, but gave off a bone-chilling coldness.
"What are you to think you can marry her?"
Evelyn thought about how, in the years she'd known Benjamin, Samuel seemed like every strand of his hair exuded a Playboy vibe, yet he didn't have a girlfriend - there wasn't even a woman around him.
Sure enough, what Mabel said was right - she and Samuel would end up together eventually.
She just didn't know what had happened between Mabel and Samuel in the past.
Facing the angry Samuel, Evelyn showed no fear. Instead, her mind was full of gossip.
Eugene looked at the mess on the floor and clicked his tongue, seeming dissatisfied.
Yet his words were so casual that they showed he didn't care about this matter at all.
"If Mr. Harris is dissatisfied with Mr. White, why smash up my place? This all costs money."
He called out to Mabel at the table. "Ms. Simpson, he broke my things. Shouldn't you compensate him? I'd also welcome compensation with your body."
Eugene's shameless words really left people not knowing how to respond.
Benjamin pulled Evelyn to her feet. "Since the family has arrived, we'll be going."
Family?
Samuel was Celeste's cousin, Mabel's ex-boyfriend... rounding up, he could indeed be considered family.
Besides, given Celeste's situation, Evelyn didn't want Benjamin involved. She immediately prepared to leave with him.
Before she could take a step, Samuel's voice rang out.
"Mabel, stop gambling."
