Evelyn fell silent.
How did Eugene become like this?
He was completely different from before.
She narrowed her eyes and smiled.
"Thank you for your affection, Mr. Martinez, but I'm already engaged to him, so naturally I won't betray him."
"As for you, Mr. Martinez, with such a handsome face, why not sell your charm? I guarantee you'd make a fortune every day."
Even after Evelyn's words reached this point, Eugene didn't get angry. Instead, his face carried a faint smile.
"That's actually a good idea, except my value is too high - most people can't afford me."
"What if no one pays and I starve to death? What should I do then?"
"How about Ms. Thomas pays first and keeps me?"
Evelyn was truly left speechless by Eugene's retort. So it's true - when someone is shameless, they're invincible?
Seeing her somewhat at a loss, Eugene's gaze returned to Benjamin.
"I forgot to mention, the five million dollars is compensation. Ms. Harris just lost quite a bit more."
"So altogether, it comes to almost fifteen million dollars now. Mr. White will have to pay it all back for her."
Celeste was barely conscious. How much money she'd actually lost, she had no idea - Eugene could say whatever he wanted now.
Benjamin sneered: "Want to settle this at the gambling table? Fine, but since you're holding a Harris family member, naturally, the Harris family should handle this."
Samuel?
Evelyn immediately thought of him, but when her eyes swept around, she didn't see him anywhere.
Eugene raised an eyebrow: "What, is Mr. White planning to abandon Celeste?"
"You keep saying Celeste and I have an unclear relationship. If I save her again, what if my girlfriend misunderstands? So, it's better to let the Harris family handle this themselves."
Benjamin said coolly, "Mabel, Celeste is Samuel's cousin. You're Samuel's woman - shouldn't you help?"
Mabel!
Mabel frowned and stepped out from the crowd.
Evelyn frowned, looking at her: "Why would you come to a place like this?"
"Part-time work. It pays well."
Even though Mabel is the Simpson family's adopted daughter, she doesn't have to suffer this much?
Mabel had to work, and even had to work at a place like this?
Thinking about what she'd overheard through the fire door last time, Evelyn felt that having the Simpson family identity might actually be worse than not having it for Mabel.
Eugene glanced at Mabel and smiled again.
"Someone from the Simpson family?"
He looked at Benjamin: "Did you forget something? The Martinez family and Simpson family marriage alliance - that's my engagement to Mabel. So technically, she's my fiancée."
"You just said you were faithful, and now you suddenly have a fiancée. Mr. Martinez doesn't seem very credible."
Having been provoked for so long, Evelyn found an opening to strike back and got a bit carried away.
Eugene looked at Evelyn with interest: "If Ms. Thomas is willing to marry me, I can immediately cancel the engagement with the Simpson family. What do you say?"
"The Simpson family won't cancel the engagement."
Mabel spoke up: "The Simpson family knows the marriage partner isn't Jeremy. Adelaide Simpson is willing to marry over, and the Simpson family is very happy about it."
Jeremy was famous in Emerald City as a playboy - no one would marry their daughter to him.
But with the Martinez family's status, plenty of women would be willing to marry someone else from the family.
Eugene looked at Mabel, then turned to Benjamin.
"Samuel's girlfriend? How come I didn't know he was in a relationship?"
He sneered: "His girlfriend needs to work at a place like this? What, is the Harris family going bankrupt?"
The implication was clear - he didn't believe Mabel had any relationship with Samuel at all.
"I dated him before, and I'll marry him in the future!"
So right now, Mabel and Samuel aren't together?
This answer was truly interesting.
Eugene's gaze on Mabel took on more interest.
Mabel ignored him and looked at Benjamin: "Samuel isn't close with those Harris family people."
"Not being close is one thing; Harris family members being bullied is another." He looked at her with an indifferent expression. "You don't have to help if you don't want to."
She thought for a few seconds, then nodded: "I'll gamble."
"You've just decided like that? Aren't you being a bit too dismissive of me?" Eugene spoke up.
"You can also refuse this arrangement. Celeste is a Harris family member anyway - I have no obligation to care. At worst, we'll just lose out on a few business deals."
Evelyn, leaning against him, froze.
Lose out on a few business deals?
Could it be that Celeste was exceptionally capable and had secured deals that Benjamin couldn't get? Was this the Harris family's arrangement?
Perhaps the White family was involved, too.
Eugene was silent for a few seconds. The lazy, casual air around him instantly dissipated, replaced by a cold aura.
Evelyn unconsciously leaned further into Benjamin's embrace.
After a few more seconds of silence, Eugene smiled again, easing the tense atmosphere.
"No one minds having more money, but Mr. White, you worked behind the scenes and caused problems for the Martinez Group - that's one thing."
"But you also ruined a project I had my eye on. That's not really appropriate, is it?"
"I'll gamble with her," his chin pointed at Mabel. "If you lose, these two beauties spend the night with me."
His smile was broad, but with the scar on his brow, he looked particularly sinister.
Evelyn knew Benjamin wouldn't let that happen, but she couldn't help thinking about her past life, and her body trembled slightly.
Benjamin, holding her, naturally noticed her reaction immediately.
His arms tightened around her slightly: "If you win, Celeste and Mabel are both yours. Evelyn, don't even think about it."
Was the relationship between Benjamin and Samuel really this weak?
The last time Benjamin ordered Chase to attack Mabel, Benjamin and Samuel nearly came to blows.
This time Benjamin directly used Mabel as a bet - wouldn't Benjamin and Samuel fight to the death?
Eugene opened his mouth to speak, then seemed to suddenly think of something and curved his lips: "Fine, three hours is the limit."
Someone immediately began preparations. Evelyn asked Benjamin quietly: "Is Mabel a gambling expert?"
"I don't know."
Benjamin's answer left her stunned.
He let Mabel gamble without knowing her skills?
Or was he doing this on purpose?
After several seconds, she finally found her voice: "Aren't you afraid that if she loses, Samuel will come after you?"
"Not afraid."
He thought for a moment, then looked at Mabel: "You left him back then and got together with someone else - he was very angry. Now, if something really happens between you and Eugene, you might as well just be with Eugene. The Simpson family has to marry into the Martinez family anyway - there's no real difference."
Mabel didn't even lift her head, her voice cool: "I won't be with him."
Being rejected so flatly by Mabel really made him lose face.
She turned to look at Celeste: "How much money do you owe him?"
"She probably can't answer questions right now." Eugene frowned, as if he thought Mabel wasn't very smart.
In three hours, Eugene could make Mabel lose everything.
"You know that, so when you said she ruined your bag, you were completely making it up?"
He seemed to laugh in exasperation at Mabel: "Mr. White, what's the meaning of this? Is the agreement we just made void?"
