Chapter 8

Chapter 8

"No need."

Benjamin's gloomy voice almost merged with the night: "She can't let go of Matthew."

Chase: "......"

Benjamin knows what Evelyn is thinking, and he still follows her.

Was he deliberately looking for punishment?

He complained internally, but on the surface still maintained a united front with Benjamin: "Ms. Thomas will realize his leg isn't broken and know you showed mercy. She won't resent you."

"Would I be afraid of her resentment?"

Benjamin was truly stubborn.

The hospital room.

"How could she be so cruel? It's all my fault, Matthew. Evelyn must have misunderstood."

Sophia sat by the bed, gauze wrapped around her forehead.

Her pale face paired with red-rimmed eyes made her look pitiful.

But beneath her lowered lashes lurked suppressed anger and jealousy.

Why did Benjamin only have eyes for that bitch Evelyn?

And he had hurt her!

"She really went too far this time!"

Matthew said through gritted teeth, but when his gaze fell on Sophia's forehead injury, his eyes flashed with obvious tenderness and became much softer.

"I'm sorry you had to suffer because of me. Don't worry, I'll definitely make her apologize."

Matthew's normally refined face was now filled with dark anger.

"Kneel and apologize. I'll make her kneel!"

"What, you broke your leg, and you still don't get it?"

The door suddenly opened, and Evelyn walked in.

Her cold gaze moved between Matthew and Sophia as she sneered: "Want your other leg broken too?"

"Keep pretending."

Matthew, lying in the hospital bed, gave a cold laugh: "Don't think that just because you had Benjamin's people beat me up, I'll be scared! But this incident has shown me your ugly true face. Even if my leg really was broken, I would never submit to you!"

Wasn't his leg broken?

Evelyn's eyes narrowed slightly as she understood what had happened.

Most likely, Benjamin was worried she'd resent him afterward, so he only taught Matthew a lesson without actually breaking his leg.

"Evelyn," Sophia stood up with red eyes, "I know you've always had feelings for Matthew, and I understand you misunderstood us. Actually, Matthew and I have nothing going on. You were just too much today..."

She covered her mouth here, as if suddenly realizing she'd said something wrong, though a cunning flash crossed her eyes.

"You really were too much." He didn't care at all and continued along with Sophia's words. "Evelyn, if you really want me to forgive you, kneel down and apologize."

Matthew's face showed a dark gleam, the hatred in his eyes almost overflowing at this moment.

"If you won't kneel, then get out. You're not welcome here, and I don't want to see you."

Evelyn, who used to always humble herself before him, ran her tongue along the inside of her cheek: "Have you forgotten who invested in this hospital? I'm the one with more right to tell you to get out."

Her ice-cold tone made Matthew and Sophia suddenly shiver.

Sophia was the first to react. She quickly walked up to Evelyn.

"Stop being stubborn. Matthew is really angry, that's why he said those things. Just go over and say a few words to calm him down. After all, you were the one fooling around with another man first. You still have those kiss marks on you."

After 24 hours, the marks on her body were no longer the bright red of last night.

But the faint traces added even more ambiguity and sparked more imagination.

A clear coldness flashed in Matthew's eyes as he turned his head away from her.

"I can't stand your flirtatious nature."

"My fiancé, Benjamin, is the young master of the White family, one of the top families in Silverlight City, and he controls a huge gang..."

Evelyn paused, her red lips curving up, though the coldness in her eyes was like a bone-cutting blade.

"I have this man's love. Do I need your approval? Matthew, are you dreaming?"

Evelyn's merciless mockery finally caused a change in Matthew's expression, which he'd been trying to maintain.

"Do you know what you're saying?"

"Of course I do. You're the one who doesn't understand the situation."

Evelyn didn't want to waste words and looked at him coldly: "You went to see Grandpa today. What did you say to him?"

As her words fell, the room instantly became silent enough to hear a pin drop.

And Matthew's eyes flashed with momentary guilt.

Evelyn, who had been staring at him, naturally didn't miss it: "Grandpa's attack was caused by you! You bastard, Grandpa was so good to you, how could you do this!"

"Nonsense!"

The more flustered someone is, the louder their voice.

"It was clearly because you were at a hotel with some random man, and when Grandpa found out, he got so angry he fell ill!"

At this point, he seemed to find support and continued: "Don't think that bribing a few reporters and breaking the surveillance cameras makes everything perfect. Yesterday, I had someone watching you!"

"So, you knew I was drugged, you knew I was set up, and you just watched?"

Heartbroken.

Compared to the despair and unwillingness she felt when she last saw Matthew in her previous life, at this moment, Evelyn only felt it wasn't worth it.

The Thomas family, from top to bottom, treated him as a member of the family, making the servants see his authority as greater than hers, the actual young lady.

And the result?

The Thomas family had simply raised an ungrateful person.

Rage exploded in her chest. Evelyn's eyes turned red as she grabbed the broom standing in the corner and mercilessly swung it at Matthew's leg.

A scream escaped his mouth, breaking the quiet of the inpatient department as footsteps rushed toward them from outside.

But Evelyn's eyes were red, and she kept hitting Matthew regardless.

Sophia was completely shocked. After recovering, she placed her phone with the camera already recording to the side and immediately stepped forward to stop her.

"Stop making a scene. Matthew doesn't like you anyway. Doing this will only push him further away."

"Get lost! I'll deal with him first, then take care of you!"

At this moment, Evelyn was completely consumed by rage over how Matthew had destroyed the Thomas family, leaving them broken and dead. She shoved Sophia to the ground and mercilessly beat Matthew with the broom.

Benjamin, who rushed over after hearing the commotion, froze in place, while Chase's eye twitched.

Couldn't Evelyn let go of Matthew?

While he was still in shock, Benjamin had already strode forward. He embraced Evelyn from behind, controlling the broom in her hands.

Benjamin's low voice sounded in her ear, with a coaxing tone.

"If you want to deal with him, I can help you. You don't need to do it yourself."

How could Evelyn, in her rage, be calmed so easily?

She turned to look at him, emotions running high, yet couldn't help feeling wronged: "You lied. Didn't you say you'd break his leg!"

Everyone was stunned. He began to suspect—could she be this angry because Matthew's leg wasn't actually broken?

"Evelyn, why won't you believe me?"

Sophia's tearful voice rang out, plaintive yet laced with cold sharpness.

"I know what's in your heart. How could I have other thoughts about Matthew? Even if you don't trust me, you shouldn't distrust Matthew, and you definitely shouldn't have hit him."

"Doing this will only push Matthew further away."

So Evelyn's love had turned to hate, and that's why she hit Matthew?
