Chapter 334 Chapter 334 This child is not Caelan Cooper's.
Anne Ross was rambling about the character she was playing, sighing, "Ulyssa Roberts has completely lost it; in the end, she was so desperate that she took her own life."
Suddenly, Eileen Stevens jumped up, her eyes wide open as if she had just... figured something out.
Anne looked at Eileen's panicked expression and asked, "What's wrong, Eileen? Are you okay?"
Eileen opened her mouth and said, "Can you say that again?"
Anne blinked, confused. "Say what?"
"The child of Ulyssa Roberts."
Anne thought for a moment and replied, "Ulyssa Roberts's child isn't the prince's; it's Casey's."
Eileen nodded vigorously. "Exactly! The child isn't his, so she was too afraid to have it. That must be it!"
Anne grabbed her arm, worry etched on her face. "Eileen, I'm talking about Ulyssa Roberts. Who are you talking about?"
A cold glint flashed in Eileen's eyes as she replied, "Myrtle Stevens!"
Eileen pulled out her phone and called Lynx Black, urgency in her voice. "Lynx, if the child is gone, can DNA still be tested?"
Lynx Black on the other end paused for a moment. "Are you looking to do a paternity test?"
Eileen was taken aback. "How did you know?"
Lynx clicked his tongue. "You and Niles really are on the same wavelength; you both thought of the same thing."
A strange feeling washed over Eileen. "Does he also think that Myrtle Stevens's child isn't Caelan Cooper's?"
Lynx Black nodded. "Yeah, he didn't want to say anything at home because he wasn't sure, and he didn't want to get your hopes up."
With a smile, Lynx added, "Anyway, I'm at the hospital now. The embryonic tissue left by Myrtle Stevens is still here. We should be able to extract DNA and do a paternity test without any issues."
Eileen Stevens let out a sigh of relief. "That's good to hear."
It was a bold guess, but it was also their only hope.
Eileen first took Anne Ross home to change clothes before heading out to have dinner with the brand representatives.
After Yesenia Stevens's career took a downturn, many resources had been snatched up by other actresses.
Besides Yun Shang, who was keeping an eye on Yesenia, Anne Ross had also landed two endorsements.
Once Eileen wrapped up things with Anne, she sent her home, hesitated for a moment, and then drove to the secret base.
Returning to the Stevens Family at this time would be like walking into a trap. She didn’t have any solid evidence to back her up, so it was better to lay low for now.
Eileen pushed the door open and looked at the refreshed base, feeling a wave of comfort wash over her.
She walked over to the bar, grabbed a bottle of soda, and returned to her computer. After a long moment of thought, she uploaded Myrtle Stevens's photo to the tracking system.
Just as she was busy working, the door swung open, and Niles Hawke walked in, wearing a coat that brought a chill into the room.
Eileen looked up. "What are you doing here?"
Niles hung up his coat and replied, "You didn't go back to the Stevens Family or come to find me, so I figured you might be here. I thought I'd check in on you."
He moved closer to Eileen and asked, "What are you working on?"
Eileen Stevens pressed her lips together and said, “I was thinking, if Myrtle Stevens's baby isn’t Caelan Cooper’s, then it must belong to someone else. If she’s pregnant... she must have found a hotel to stay at.”
Niles Hawke raised an eyebrow. “So, are you going to try to find her hotel records?”
Eileen shook her head. “Not quite. This time, even the doctor has no loose ends. She probably wouldn’t use her real name to book a room. I hacked into the traffic surveillance footage in Seaside City to trace her movements.”
This was the first time Niles saw Eileen operate her tech skills. She was different from her usual calm and composed self, resembling a warrior wielding a sword, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
She was nestled in her chair, her eyes shining as her fingers danced rapidly over the keyboard, looking adorably focused.
Niles stood up and asked, “Have you eaten?”
Eileen’s gaze was glued to the computer screen as she mumbled, “Yeah, I had a little.”
Noticing the soda and chips in her hands, Niles knew she hadn’t had a satisfying meal with the brand representatives. He opened the fridge and glanced inside, asking, “How about some noodles?”
Eileen didn’t catch that clearly but instinctively replied, “Sure, I’ll eat.”
In the quiet of the deep night, Eileen sat in front of the soft blue glow of the screen, diligently searching for evidence to prove her innocence. Meanwhile, the noble and aloof man stood at the stove, preparing a bowl of noodles for her.
It felt as if the warmth of home suddenly filled the lonely spacious apartment, bringing an unexpected comfort on a winter night.
Niles placed the bowl of noodles in front of her and said, “Eat something.” He then casually took the soda from her hands and replaced it with a cup of hot milk.
Eileen Stevens sat at her computer, diligently slurping noodles, feeling a warm sensation in her stomach. Niles Hawke was seated in the chair next to her, likely handling some work of his own.
They worked late into the night, but progress was slow. With a city as large as Seaside, there were too many surveillance cameras, and even Eileen's tracking system couldn't pinpoint the information quickly.
As she grew drowsy, she unknowingly dozed off, resting her head on the desk.
Niles Hawke stood up and gently lifted her, placing her on the bed. He lay down beside her, wrapping his arms around her.
The night passed without dreams, and when Eileen opened her eyes the next morning, Niles had already left.
She scratched her head, got up to wash her face, and noticed a note on the table: "I'll be waiting for you at the office. - Hawke"
Eileen jolted. Could it be that the paternity test results from Lynx Black had come in?
She quickly jumped in her car and headed to the Hawke Family, stopping by a breakfast shop on the way to grab a steamer basket of buns and some soy milk, just to avoid going hungry.
When she arrived at the Hawke Family lobby, the receptionist greeted her warmly.
Eileen was taken aback. "Do I... know you?"
The receptionist smiled politely. "Ms. Stevens, I'm a new employee at Hawke Family. I received training from Assistant Han on my first day. If you're visiting, no appointment is necessary; please head directly to the president's office."
Eileen paused, surprised. "What happened to the previous receptionist?"
"She was let go."
Eileen's heart skipped a beat. Could it be... because she was turned away the last time she came to see Niles?
The elevator arrived, and with no time to ponder further, she headed straight up to Niles Hawke's office.
Eileen Stevens thought Niles Hawke was waiting for her, so she hurriedly pushed the door open and walked into the office.
Niles was sitting behind his desk, listening to two directors report on their work.
The moment they saw Eileen, they paused, their eyes shifting from her stunning, makeup-free face to the small basket of dumplings she was holding.
Clearing her throat awkwardly, Eileen said, "I was waiting for you outside."
She walked over to the sofa in the reception area and sat down, glancing at Niles Hawke.
The man was intensely focused on his work, his already sharp features appearing even more serious. He sat there quietly, listening to the reports, occasionally asking, "Is there anything else?"
His commanding presence was undeniable; he was like a king in motion.
Once the work reports were finished, the directors quickly exited the office, eager not to delay the president's important matters.
Niles raised an eyebrow at her. "Have you had enough of staring? I think you might be drooling."
