TRUE COLOURS
TRUE COLOURS
Ava's POV
It's been weeks since the news of Alpha Sebastian's coronation and Evelyn being his Apex Luna.
Lucas had met a tragic death, Layla had suddenly gone missing and my mother and I were the most wanted criminals in the werewolf Kingdom.
I couldn't tell what had gone so wrong for us to be in such a state.
We hid at the outskirts of the pack, the isolated part left for rogues who were barely insane. And life hasn't been glamorous since the sudden change of lifestyle.
“Stop slacking you bitch and wash the dishes quickly. The customers are getting angry!" My boss dumped more dirty plates into the sink, splashing its disgusting water all over my body.
I wanted to scream, bark at the lousy woman who had no respect for me. But I couldn't if not we wouldn't be able to fend for the night.
In order to survive the cruelty my wicked sister had brought us into, my Mom thought it best I worked for the first time in my entire life of luxury for us to be able to eat malnourished dishes with less quality.
“Have you lost your goddam mind!" She came back to the kitchen and dumped more disgusting dishes.
Unable to stand the filth, I stormed out of the bar and went down to the saloon Mom worked at.
When I came in, she was cleaning the floors. A polished woman now turned into a rag wearing a maid. Hatred burned in my chest as I continued to blame all our misfortune on that bitch, Evelyn.
“Mom, you don't have to be doing this. It is above your standard," I snatched the mop out of her hand and threw it on the floor.
She glared at me with a disapproving gaze but I didn't care if my attitude had caused a nuisance to the people in the salon.
“Why do we have to work for people beneath us? If they knew who we were, they wouldn't dare to offend us," I blurted out unapologetically.
“Be quiet, Ava. Are you trying to put us in trouble? If any of them find out who we truly are, they will come after us and that would be dangerous," Mom whispered, glancing from side to side like a thief committing a crime.
“Why can't we go back and ask Dad forgiveness? He is not cold hearted to abandon us. I am pretty sure he is worried sick about us. Do you know how much I am suffering in the hands of these lowlives? I won't hesitate to crush them once I get back home," I declared but that only earned me a slap.
My face snapped to the other side in surprise. She had never hit me before. I was shocked to see that my words had provoked her. Mom never acted on her emotions not even when she was angered.
“If you don't know how to keep your mouth shut then put it to good use. Have you thought of what these people might do to us if they find out we are nobles? The quicker you understand our lives won't go back to the way it used to be, the better for you. Now, go and be of service to those men who have been checking you out for an hour now," she yelled -whispered and I couldn't believe my ears when she said I should use my body to please filthy looking men.
“Mom, what has gotten into you?"
“Don't call me that if you won't be of any use to me. I raised you in the best way I could. The best way to pay me back is to do as I say and generate income that we can survive on." She pushed me towards the group of three men who had their tongues licking out like dogs.
I frowned at their disgusting face and refused to have anything to do with them.
“Mom, I won't sell my body to sick pathetic looking men. I am not a slut," I declared, set boundaries between her orders towards me.
She scoffed and looked me straight in the eyes, “You think you are special? Hey, I own you and you will do everything that I say you should." She quacked me forward and I landed on the laps of the group.
I tried to jump away from the but their hands gripped on my waist and laps tight. One by one everyone including my Mom left the salon while I struggled to break free.
“Stop it! Let me go!" I screamed as they ripped my clothes off.
My punches were weak, a caricature to their built frame. One of them slid my legs open and began to focus my skirt down.
Panic took over my senses as I screamed for help. But no one came to my rescue. My top was tore off my body and hands began to fumble my breasts. I couldn't breathe, I was terrified and each time they laughed at how pathetic I sounded, I hated myself.
“Please stop... please..." Tears streamed down my eyes. I felt so helpless, weak and disgusted of my own body.
“She said stop, bastards. Get your hands off her," a familiar voice said with an intimidating authority that made them pause for a minute.
Evelyn stood by the door, eyes glowing blue like lightning. Three of them chuckled cynically on seeing she was another woman to prey on.
Despite her warning, they chose to ignore her. Two held me down while one approached her with a knife to subdue her.
However, he didn't make it half across the salon when his body exploded. Blood stained the entire place, leaving some parts of his body scattered in pieces.
The other two turned their attention to her after they had locked my wrist to a bar.
“Hey, little witch you are going to pay for what you did to our brother..." The second one trailed off and slumped to the ground.
Seeing his brothers were no more just from speaking rudely to her, he dropped on his knees trembling for mercy.
“Please spare my life. I promise not to harm her ever again." He begged like a pussy.
“You won't hurt her but harm other women. What's the use of keeping men like you alive? You don't deserve to be alive when your brothers are now at their place of rest. You'd have to join them." Ruthlessly, she sliced his throat and blood gushed out of his wound.
I stared in horror watching her eliminate three of them at a go. Their bodies dissipated into the air which only meant one thing, their souls were perished.
“Are you here to kill me too? I know you have hated me since day one and you won't hesitate to get revenge on me. Well, guess what? The feeling is mutual," I said, struggling to get my hand out of the cuffs that trapped me to the ground.
“You are still proud as ever. I have come to kill instead to arrest you. You are a wanted criminal remember? So follow me back to the pack and I will question you quietly and if you are not guilty you will be released," she muttered but I have never trusted anyone's words not even my words.
“I will not follow you anywhere nor will I allow you to take my mom away from me," I declared and she threw her head back laughing.
“You still call that witch your mom. She literally abandoned you here. Do you think shd will leave her biological child to the hands of hoodlums?"
“What?"
“Elara is not your biological mother. She is a fraud, Ava. So give up and face reality, Ava cobberman."
