TRIALS OF TORMENT

TRIALS OF TORMENT
Layla's POV

I watched as Ava and Elara ran into hiding. My view was like a mirror overseeing everything at once. The entire pack was on screen, displaying every act committed by the pack members.

Staring down at my hand, I realized I was in a mist form unable to feel my body.

The place I stood was like a blank of white sheets, pure like snow. I looked around hoping to find someone even if it was the person who brought me over.

“Am I dead?" I yelled and my voice echoed a distance.

“I know you are here. Come out wherever you are and let's finish this fight once and for all!" I screamed losing my patience as time ticked into nothing.

There was no response.

Complete void and solitude.

I thought I was losing my sanity until I heard movement behind me.

“Where the hell am I?" I growled, as Evelyn came to my view.

I tried to lung at her but my hands and legs were suddenly chained.

“The more you struggle and resist the more pain you will feel," she said, waving her fingers in the air. A long rod appeared in her hand and she used it as a wedge to sit on the air.

Show off, I guess she is trying to rub it in my face that she is now powerful than I am.

“Since when did you hit puberty? I thought you were nothing but a mere Luna with no powers. I guess you finally awakened your bloodline powers. You just made my job so easy," I scoffed and she chuckled unbothered by my threat.

“You still don't realize your situation, Layla. I am not the same Evelyn you know nor I am the girl from her previous life. You have committed grave sins that cannot be forgiven, played with dark magic and lost your soul to the underworld," she grumbled, her voice sounding like thunder.

The atmosphere flickered like lightning and her eyes glowed like a lava of fire. I could sense the great power that emitted from her even when she was a distance away from me.

What the hell is going on? Is she truly not the same Evelyn I know?

“I don't understand. Who are you then? And why bring me here?" I questioned, backing away from her as fear began to set in.

“There is no use running away from me, Layla. You wanted to challenge me. Fine, I will give you a chance to redeem your soul. If you fail to win a fight with me, your soul will be perished into nothingness. You won't have the ability to reincarnate nor reborn. That is the punishment you will get for all the atrocity you committed." She swung a sword at me and crafted another one for herself.

“Pick up the sword," she ordered. With shaking hands, I picked sword from the vast ground of white.

I circled around her, taking my stand to attack. Behind her, I lunged an attack with the sword but a strong wind blasted me to the end of the corner. I swung from the cliff. Looking down I saw nothing but an infinity of black stars.

“Once you fall in you will forever be in abyss. Try not to lose before your soul perishes," she lunged her sword at me, clashing it with my.

The brutal strength in her arm blew me off again and I almost slipped off the edge.

What is this? What am I doing? What am I up against?

Confusion mixed with fear rampaged my mind. I couldn't see a thing as she slashed her sword continuously on the steel of my blade.

I found myself running instead of fighting.

“There is no escaping me, Layla. This what happens when you fight your goddess," she muttered, her voice deep with menace.

I have never been scared of death my entire life. Facing Evelyn like this felt like fighting an already won battle. She was too strong. But how? How did she manage to get this powerful under my nose.

She took the poison I made and that was supposed to weaken her to the core. But it didn't, instead it looked like she gained more strength.

Ava must have misplaced the poison. That traitor! I on she would never have the guts to poison the man that rejected her multiple times.

Once I escape this hell, I am going to break her bones and send her to hell myself.

Taking a glance over my shoulder, I realized Evelyn was no longer on my hill. My legs slowed down from its race as my heart pound wild from the chase.

If someone had told me I would meet a terrifying version of the woman I despised, I would have laughed at their face and called them a liar.

But here I was facing such predicament. It's embarrassing to see that she is the hunter while I am the prey.

Just when I thought I was safe, a hand grabbed my neck and lunged me to the opposite side of the infinity blankness.

“You are supposed to fight me and not run like a crowd. How do you feel now being hunted by the one you once preyed on? Evelyn was so good to you but you misused her kindness for your selfish desires!" She bounced her sword at me and it went passed my neck.

I stood in shock as I touched the place she had sliced. Blood gushed out of the wound and my knees fell back to the ground.

Death blurred my vision into thick darkness.

The next time I opened my eyes, I found myself sitting at a dining table. I reached my trembling hand to my neck and felt no cut or blood.

Second later, my mother came into the dining room with a pot of brewed stood. Shocked, I sprang up from my chair and it fell back with a loud thud.

What I was seeing was impossible. My mother was dead but here she was in my presence.

“It's impossible. How are you still alive?" I glared at her, past hatred rekindling at the sight of her.

Just then, my father walked in drunk as always.

“Where have you been bitch?" He staggered in and my pathetic mother who always cares for him rushed to his side.

“Get away from me you old hag!" He slapped and pushed her away. Yet she crawled back to him and he went feral hitting her with no remorse.

My past replayed right before my eyes the terror of watching my father beat my mother while she protected him. And little me who knew nothing suffered under their cruelty.

Without thinking, I took the knife on the table and stabbed my mother. She stared at me with guilt in her eyes as she slipped away into nothing. Just like the past I had ended her life because I hated how pathetic and weak she was.

Then I lunged for my father and stabbed him countless times until his intestines were all out. I hated them, their lives and how they made me feel worthless as a child.

“You will never find peace," my father muttered under his final breath.

Shocked by what I had done, I ran out of the house into the street. That was when I met her, the little girl that hunted my dreams. Evelyn Darkmoor.

“Hello, are you alright? Did you get hurt? I saw what happened. But for you not to get caught, I will help you get away. In exchange, you have to confess your sins to my master," she said and took my hand in her little one.

For a second I wanted to lash out on her but when I saw the innocent gaze in her eyes, I let her take me away from my nightmare.
