Chapter 106 Vengeance at the Edge
Chapter 106 Vengeance at the Edge
"Lucian, what's going on? I thought you went to find Ethan?" Helena stood frozen in place, confusion evident on her face.
Helena remained motionless, utterly bewildered, while Lucian looked at her with an expression of complete despair.
He had initially planned to make some excuse about switching rooms, but there was no way to explain this away.
Lucian ran his fingers through his hair in frustration, teetering on the edge of a meltdown. After a few seconds, something suddenly clicked, and he glanced at Ethan.
At this point, he didn't need to ask Ethan what had happened. He knew without a doubt that this was no accident.
What were the odds that he'd accidentally enter the wrong room, only to have the production crew show up moments later, with half the guests still awake?
Blake! It had to be Blake's doing. He wanted revenge against Helena, so he deliberately set out to ruin her reputation. That bastard!
Lucian felt no anger at being manipulated.
His concern was solely for Helena.
Meanwhile, not far away, Kate was now wide awake. Like Lucian, she immediately saw through the situation.
"That snake Blake. He couldn't get to me, so he went after Helena instead. Despicable!" she muttered.
She started to move toward the scene, but Ethan caught her arm.
"Sweetheart, go back to our room. I'll handle this," he said.
This situation was his responsibility. He hadn't anticipated that Blake would target Helena and Lucian.
He gave Kate's hand a reassuring squeeze, urging her to return to their room.
But just as he approached Lucian, Blake emerged from the room directly across from Kate.
"Enjoying the show?" Blake asked with a smirk.
Kate whirled around, her teeth clenched. How dare he appear so brazenly!"You could have targeted me instead of going after my friends," she said coldly.
"Where's the fun in that?" Blake raised an eyebrow. "I know how much you care about the people around you now, Kate. Tell me, how does it feel? All that guilt, all that anguish, knowing Lucian and Helena are being gossiped about because of you?"
His words weren't a question but a taunt.
"I'm playing you at your own game. Now compare that to how angry you feel right now. Satisfying, isn't it? For me, I mean."
His next words were cut off as Kate yanked the cord from her pajama pants and wrapped it around his neck, pulling with surprising strength that momentarily prevented him from breaking free.
"You... you're insane! People are watching!" Blake choked out.
"I don't care." Kate's eyes narrowed dangerously as she dragged Blake into her room.
Before Blake could react, she pulled him toward the window. The next moment, the screen was open, and the howling sea breeze rushed in. Blake's face drained of color as Kate shoved him hard against the windowsill.
As he looked down, the dizzying twelve-story drop made him sick with fear. Blake instinctively closed his eyes and shouted in panic.
"Kate, what the hell do you think you're doing?!"
Kate raised an eyebrow, her voice unsettlingly calm.
"Nothing much. Just showing you the view."
She pushed him farther out, and although physically he was stronger than Kate and could easily break free, there are fears that paralyze even the strongest men.
His fear of heights was his fatal weakness.
"What view? You're trying to kill me! Let me go!" he raged impotently.
Kate leaned against the window frame, closing her eyes for a moment to breathe in the night air, the curve of her lips taking on a disturbing quality.
"Yes, I do want to kill you, Blake. You already killed me once. Don't I deserve to return the favor?"
What?
Blake couldn't believe these words were coming from Kate's mouth. He managed to turn to her and saw her utterly serene expression. 'She has truly lost her mind,' he thought.
He was gripping her too—if he fell, she wouldn't escape either. Was she planning for them to die together?
"What the hell do you want?" Fear made his voice tremble.
Kate's fingertips traced lightly over the back of Blake's neck, as if touching an inanimate object, while her voice remained disturbingly calm.
"What do I want? Blake, you enjoy watching me suffer, don't you? But now that I'm truly suffering, you don't seem pleased."
She tilted her head slightly, her gaze sweeping over his fear-contorted profile, her voice ice-cold.
Blake's emotions were stretched to the breaking point, his voice bordering on hysterical.
"I wanted you to suffer, not for you to kill me!"
Kate looked down, her expression unreadable. "Is that so? Well then, how about this—will you continue to harm the people around me? If you say no, I'll let you go. If you say yes, I'll push you over. How's that sound?"
Kate's fingertip remained pressed against the back of Blake's neck, that cool touch like a snake's tongue, making his entire body rigid with fear.
He was furious, he was indignant, but he had no choice but to submit.
He could sense that Kate wasn't joking.
She was even more unhinged than he was.
"No! I swear I won't," he spat out unwillingly through gritted teeth.
"You swear?" Kate let out a soft laugh that carried on the sea breeze to Blake's ears, chilling him more than the twelve-story drop.
"Your oaths are empty promises. I just want you to remember: don't harm anyone close to me again. You and I can settle our scores slowly, but touch anyone else—even a finger—and I'll make you pay it all back in full!"
Kate suddenly increased the pressure of her hand, causing Blake's upper body to slide farther out the window. Just then...
"Kate, that's enough!" Ethan had returned to the room.
Kate's fingers trembled slightly, but she didn't immediately release her grip. Seeing this, Ethan quickly pulled Blake back inside.
The moment his feet touched the floor, Blake's eyes were filled with venom, but he said nothing and promptly left.
As soon as he departed, Ethan pulled the screen closed and shut the window.
"Kate, it's dangerous." Ethan's voice was low and angry.
If she had pushed any harder, she would have fallen out the window along with Blake.
Kate seemed to regain some of her rationality, though the pathological ruthlessness hadn't completely faded from her eyes.
She said, "He deserves to die."
"Yes, he does deserve to die. But Kate, when you were pushing him out that window, did you think about yourself at all?" His voice, though angry, betrayed his fear for her safety.
Kate's reason fully returned, and she belatedly felt the fear of what might have happened. She lowered her eyes, slightly ashamed.
"I wasn't thinking. I just heard him say he'd go after the people around me, and I wanted to shut him up."
In that moment, she'd had only one thought: kill him, make him die.
