[After that episode]
***
When Richard observed Veronica wasn't listening to his words, he began to push his blade through the wall.
[Clank].
Veronica cast the magical lightning bolt.
"Lightning bolt, strike out with all of your might."
The lightning bolt appeared to strike the Lycan as soon as Veronica spoke. The lightning strike did not have any beneficial effects. The Lycan jumped to the opposite side after dodging the bolt. Veronica squinted her eyes as she considered what to do with the Lycan. The Lycan was extremely strong. On the other hand, Richard was attempting to breach the barrier; everything merely irritated Veronica.
She once again readied herself to fire another attack, but it appeared that she was a bit tardy. Before Veronica could do anything to stop the Lycan from attacking her, the Lycan leaped down the hill. She freed herself from the Lycan's hold, although she got a hand scratch. She whimpered in agony instantaneously.
"Ah."
"duchess." Richard noticed everything. "Duchess, open the barrier," he said as he narrowed his gaze and began breaking through the barrier once again.
Veronica scowled while ignoring Richard. She had cut her hand, and blood was pouring from the wound. The Lycan began attacking Veronica continuously. Veronica was constantly protecting herself from the onslaught. If she missed one, the Lycan nails would cause her to split in half.
However, Veronica made the unfortunate blunder of stomping on a stone, which caused her to become unbalanced. She stumbled, and the Lycan pounced on her. Without missing the chance to act, Lycan seized Veronica, raised her up, and pushed her to the ground hard.
[Thud].
"Duchess," Richard bellowed. The barrier was nearly broken. Richard could sense her power as the barrier broke, since it began off feeble. He had to act quickly to stop Lycan from killing her. While contemplating, he began piercing the crack with the dagger.
Lycan grabbed Veronica's throat and forced her to the ground.
[Growl].
Veronica opened her eyes gradually, feeling pain in her legs and waist. She appeared to have no sense of feeling. She should have used the shield for protection, but the Lycan attacked her before she could react.
Veronica looked up and noticed two red eyes. The Lycan was slowly approaching her, saliva dripping from its mouth. It was growling while looking at Veronica. Veronica couldn't do anything since the Lycan was clutching her throat so hard. Two or three wolves began to surround each soldier. They couldn't even come to help Veronica.
[Growl].
The Lycan extended its jaws to devour Veronica's head. Richard yelled as soon as he witnessed the last sight.
The barrier was destroyed as he stabbed it with all of his might. But it was already too late; the Lycan was about to bite off her entire skull when they heard a loud noise coming from the sky. Everyone stopped and turned to stare at the sky because the noise was so loud.
The Lycan halted and raised an upward gaze. Everyone saw a large fire eagle, although it would be wrong to refer to it as an eagle because it was larger than normal. The wings were so huge that if the eagle flapped them, the trees and everything would blow up.
"Kaaa."
The eagle gave the Lycan a quick nudge before flapping its large wings in its direction. It was unbelievable that the Lycan threw it away because of the wind. The wind was so fierce that the barrier burst into fragments, and Richard was struck again with a stone. Veronica gasped for air and coughed. She made a stroke with her neck. Finally, she was released from hell. If the eagle showed up even a second later, the Lycan may have killed her, as it was her close call.
When everything became a mess, Veronica ordered every sorcerer while protecting her eyes from dust.
"Make an earth shield for everyone."
When they heard the orders, they quickly built a barrier and shielded everyone. Richard, though, was a long way away from them, so they could not build a shield for him. When Veronica eventually opened her eyes, she saw Richard lying on the ground. He was attempting to protect himself from the dust. But she observed the Lycan was getting close to him and was trying to creep toward him. Because of how strong the wind was, the area got dusty.
Veronica constructed an earthen shield to block the wind while tightening her blade. But it appeared that the Lycan approached Richard quite close, whereas Veronica was not that close.
"Damn it! Stupid bird, what are you doing?" Veronica cried out.
She instantly spread out her shield and said this while pressing the earth.
"The phrase Earth Jutsu: Shield"
The ground rumbled, and the ground turned up to protect Richard. Roots sprung from the earth and formed a circle around Richard. The Lycan could do nothing now. The Lycan scratches the tree roots; it inserted its nails inside the shield to protect itself from blowing up. Veronica could not even open her eyes because of the dust, but she vaguely observed a Lycan in the area as well.
She decided she had to defeat the Lycan even in the midst of the storm. The eagle started changing positions; it turned to face the opposite direction, began making airflow with its wings, and began chasing the wolves from that position. Veronica seized the chance when the wind calmed down on Richard's side, but the dust was still too much. She released her energy point as she closed her eyes. She breathed after releasing the mana throughout her entire body. Then it appeared as though a bolt had struck the area quickly. After a while, everyone heard an uproar.
The eagle looked down, then stopped flapping and began to soar above their heads.
"Kaaa."
When Veronica opened her eyes, she turned to face the Lycan. Two big hands were attached to the shield. The Lycan was also fluttering on the ground while roaring.
Everyone spread their shields as they saw their duchess had defeated the Lycan. Veronica was next to Richard as he emerged through the shield. The Lycan began to roar as it once again rose to its feet. He resisted acknowledging his defeat.
Once again, the werewolves slowly rose to their feet in response to the Lycan's snarl. Veronica inhaled deeply before saying, "Fire lion, use your five heads for fireballs."
As she cast the spell, a lion with five heads appeared. And then Veronica ran toward the Lycan with such rage, and the Lycan as well. The Lycan snarled and ran to Veronica while roaring; its arm was bleeding.
When the lion let forth the flames, Veronica entered. Everyone just heard a slicing sound after that. A head then gently fell to the ground as the fire went out. It was the head of the Lycan. Even though its eyes were open, its fury was still visible in its eyes. When they noticed the head of their leader, the werewolves took a cautious step back.
When Veronica turned back to look at the Lycan's body, it was still there. "Burn it," Veronica commanded the fire lion.
She started heading toward Richard after saying this. The Lycan's body burned behind her. She turned to the soldiers and demanded, "Kill them all. We shall eliminate all of Targoviste's creatures."
Everyone began to hack the heads off one by one as soon as they heard the instruction, and they also received additional help from the enormous eagle. Richard gazed at Veronica while picking up his sword and observing the chaos around him.
"Thank you, duchess; even if you did not arrive at the appropriate time, I'm not sure if we'll be able to kill the Lycan." Veronica groaned and said, "I told you, don't underestimate my power."
Richard gave an understanding smile.
"By the way, you're right. Someone truly bewitched the Lycan."
Veronica said as she gazed at the burned body.
"Yes, it is," Richard said calmly while glancing at the body.
Then Richard looked around, but there was no sign of the dark figure. The figure was there. But all of a sudden, it disappeared. Upon realizing all the werewolves had been slain, Veronica abruptly shattered the frigid mood once more.
"Prince, it's time for us to go."
"Yes, duchess. You're right. I have to go to Wallachia before the competition ends. But I don't know how to do it now," said Richard.
"My daughter sends the transport for you, I guess," Veronica remarked after taking a long breath.
To be continued.
