Chapter 46
Although I didn’t think deeply about it, my heart was suddenly struck as if someone had pulled a thread, causing a sharp pain!
Yet I didn’t dwell on it and was taken directly to Starlight Media by Fredrica.
Iris was also there.
Due to the chaos caused by the Kemnis family, I was afraid of any potential trouble, so I didn’t send Iris to school that day.
Iris was led by Thomas.
“Mummy!” She quickly rushed into my arms. Even though it had only been a few hours, she missed me dearly.
I lowered myself to catch her small body, feeling the soft and tender touch in my embrace, and my once frozen heart softened instantly.
“Is Iris being good? Didn’t you disturb Uncle Thomas’s livestream?” I asked gently.
“Not at all,” Thomas replied on Iris’s behalf, his voice clear and gentle.
It inexplicably reminded people of the clear spring in a mountain stream.
His fair and clean face showed a hint of concern for me. When he looked at me, his eyes curled in a way that was just right, not offensive.
“Mummy, Iris is being really good,” Iris chimed in.
In fact, after hanging out with John and Fredrica for some time, Iris’s temperament had changed quite a bit, becoming mischievous and lively.
But she wanted Thomas to be her dad.
Iris thought that if she behaved well, Thomas would like her more.
“Uncle Thomas is handsome and gentle. He can also do difficult dances on the ice. Iris praised Thomas endlessly, glancing at me with her big eyes.
It was clear that she was trying to promote Thomas to me.
I understood her little scheme but pretended not to notice, gently booping her nose and saying, “Mummy has something to tell you.”
Iris reluctantly waved to Thomas, “Goodbye, Uncle Thomas.”
Fredrica felt a bit jealous and said, “Even at such a young age, she knows to be infatuated with handsome guys and forget her friends.”
Iris pouted and ran over to give Fredrica’s nose a peck. “I haven’t forgotten my godmother. See, I only kiss you like this; I’ve never kissed Uncle
Thomas.”
Indeed, she reserved the kisses for her mommy.
Fredrica chuckled, feeling satisfied. She playfully returned the kisses on Iris’s little face and then nudged her gently, “Go inside with mommy now.”
I took Iris into Fredrica’s dedicated office.
I closed the door.
Settling Iris on a chair, I gently pressed her small shoulders and spoke up, “Mommy has talked things through with the Kemnis family today. From now on, they won’t take you away anymore.”
“Really?” A visible relief washed over Iris’s little face.
The memories left by the Kemnis family during their last encounter were too unpleasant, making her even more resentful of them.
“Mommy, were they not bullying you?” She immediately expressed her concern.
Using her soft little hands, she gently examined my face, inspecting it from top to bottom.

Chapter 46
In my memory, when Diana was unhappy, she would slap me.
Only when she saw no marks on my face did tris feel at ease.
I silently watched my daughter’s every move, feeling a soft warmth in my heart.
During my time with the Kemnis family, only tris cared about me.
Every time I was slapped by Diana or treated harshly by Pamela, Iris would come to comfort me.
Holding her tender little hand, I smiled gently and said, “Don’t worry, Mommy won’t let them bully us anymore.”
“Also, Mommy wants to apologize to you.” At this point, I lowered my head with embarrassment and explained to tris how I had convinced the Kemnis family to give up on us.
“I’m sorry, Iris. Mommy set a bad example, so please don’t follow me in this matter.”
Even if I didn’t say it, Iris would eventually find out from the Kemnis family.
Besides, we had a close relationship as a family.
I wanted to maintain a democratic and open relationship with Iris rather than a traditional elder–and–junior relationship.
“Mommy said I’m the daughter of the boss of Starlight Media, and you happen to be the boss of Starlight Media, it’s the truth,” Iris cleverly replied. “So, mommy didn’t lie; you just changed the way of speaking.”
Her words surprised me, and I couldn’t help but pause.
When did this little girl become so clever? She even knew about the “way of speaking“?
Seeing my puzzled expression, Iris proudly blinked her big eyes and said, “Uncle Fredrica and Uncle Thomas have taught me a lot about hosting live broadcasts and told me that the way of speaking is very important in attracting others‘ attention. I’ve been learning diligently.”
Iris had a look of pride, as if she were saying, “I’m very capable, and I’m proud of it.”
I couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
I remained silent and continued to stroke the soft hair of the little girl.
Iris’s progress was clearly visible.
Cutting ties with the Kemnis family was indeed a wise decision.
As I was thinking, my phone rang.
I looked down and saw a familiar number.
This number was so familiar to me.
In the past, I had wanted to dial this number countless times, but I never dared to touch it.
Afraid that the other person would be dissatisfied.
But now I suddenly feel nothing?
I realized that once a person decided to change, they could become as calm as still water, cold, and ruthless.
For example, now I have no desire to hear that voice again.
Without hesitation, I hung up the phone without even considering it.
Third–person perspective
On the other end, Ian’s face darkened like the bottom of a pot as he watched the call be disconnected.
After committing such a despicable act, this woman couldn’t even be bothered to acknowledge him.

Chapter 40
He had come out of home, and a fire was burning in his heart.
Over the years, no matter how big the matter was, he could always force himself to remain calm. But the bombshell that Sherry dropped this morning completely shattered his composure!
Even after several hours had passed, the fire in his heart continued to grow, not diminishing in the slightest but expanding!
Four years ago, she shamelessly climbed up to him, announcing that they were engaged, not because she loved him but… to give a decent status to the child of the boss of Starlight Media?
This hurt him far more than her previous claim that she did it out of love for him.
A hundred times, a thousand times, ten thousand times more hurtful!
He dialed the number again, but this time it showed that the call couldn’t be connected.
Sherry had blocked him!
He squeezed his phone so hard that his fingertips turned pale, and his knuckles almost dislocated from the pressure.
The door opened at that moment, and William walked in.
Seeing him, William hurriedly spoke, “The Thousand–Faced Fox has been contacted, but she’s unwilling to help us. What should we do next?”
Ian seemed to not hear his voice, nor did he even look at him. He walked straight past him without a glance.
Left alone, William felt a chilling coldness that made him shiver involuntarily.
This person…
“What’s going on?” He looked at Robert and Cathy, who were still present.
Normally, no matter how bad Ian’s mood was, he would never be careless about work matters. But just now, he didn’t react at all when William spoke.
“What else can it be? Being manipulated for four years is bad enough, and now he finds out he’s not even the father of the child. How could he be in a good mood?” Robert replied with a touch of sarcasm.
Of course, he was not mocking Ian, but Sherry.
He briefly recounted what had happened.
“William keeps saying that Sherry is a good person. Is this your criteria for choosing people?” Robert expressed his dissatisfaction with William’s bias towards Sherry.
However, he was not in a bad mood.
The more Sherry crossed the line, the less likely Ian would be involved with her.
On the other side, Cathy was also very pleased.
She never expected so many unexpected joys.
Now, even the child wasn’t Ian’s. What else did she have to worry about?
As long as the truth was not exposed, Ian would cherish and love her forever.
Thinking of this, Cathy stood up gracefully.
She walked to a secluded spot before taking out her phone that she had been holding and making a call. “You once said that Ian is unconditionally doting on me because of a certain matter. And because of this matter, he will never abandon me and will always comply with my requests.”
“What is the matter?”
“That matter is actually related to a person,” the person on the other end of the call slowly said.
“Who?”
