Chapter 592
Chapter 592
The two stood facing each other.
Sebastian met Christina's tear-filled eyes and felt his defenses crumble. He slowly stood up, wanting to hold her, but Christina stepped back, keeping the distance between them.
"Do you know? We've been together for so many years, and every time I needed your help, you ignored me. Like yesterday at the hospital when Estelle went missing, I was completely lost. But what did you do? You accused me of hurting your child."
Christina let out a bitter laugh. "You always say you love me, but the truth is, you love yourself the most. When things happen, you always think from your own perspective. You think I'm selfish, you think I would hurt your child, but you've never truly trusted me."
"No, no, don't think that way. I was just so angry at the time, and there was so much blood."
"There's nothing more to say. Lack of trust is lack of trust. I don't want to talk to you anymore. Please, just let me be alone."
Christina sat back down, closed her eyes, and forced her tears back. Her voice was calm. "I will get to the bottom of this. If I find out who's behind it, I won't rest until they pay."
Her determination was unshakable.
Sebastian opened his mouth but said nothing. He knew that in Christina's eyes, both he and Athena were guilty. No amount of explanation would help; it was better to focus on finding the truth.
The surgery would take several more hours. He quietly left.
As the sound of his footsteps faded, Christina opened her eyes, glaring at his retreating figure.
She slapped herself.
She regretted it. Why had she fallen for such a man? It was one thing for her to suffer, but she had risked her company and Zephyr's life. And now, Estelle was in trouble too.
Christina couldn't imagine how she would go on if Estelle were harmed because of this. She could only pray that Estelle would be safe.
Meanwhile, Sebastian stood outside, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a cigarette.
His assistant cautiously relayed the investigation results. Apparently, Estelle had been lured to a blind spot in the surveillance and then disappeared. They had no leads on who was involved.
However, there was a suspicious investment in Tamsin's account. The money had been transferred abroad, which seemed too coincidental to ignore.
Sebastian's eyes darkened. "Tamsin transferred a large sum for an investment just before Estelle went missing. Find out where that money went."
"Yes, I'll look into it right away."
As the assistant left, Sebastian sighed, throwing his cigarette to the ground and stomping it out.
Sebastian regretted it deeply. Christina had been in shock because Estelle was missing, and instead of comforting her, he had accused her.
He cursed himself. Why did they always misunderstand each other?
But then he thought of how Christina had gone to Robert first when she was in trouble, and jealousy flared up inside him.
Taking a deep breath, he composed himself and headed back to the surgery room.
Coincidentally, the surgery had finished early.
The doctor emerged, looking exhausted. Christina rushed forward, her voice hoarse. "Doctor."
"Don't worry, the surgery went very well. Luckily, the child is young and will recover quickly. Just make sure to take good care of him and avoid any more incidents. The infection was severe, but you brought him in just in time. Any later, and he might have lost a limb."
Lost a limb.
Christina trembled at the words. She turned to see Sebastian, her face darkening. Ignoring him, she went straight to the room.
As the door opened, Christina's tears fell. Seeing Estelle lying there, pale and fragile, she felt a deep, aching pain.
She approached the bed, wanting to touch Estelle, but stopped when she saw the wounds on his face.
Sebastian stood at the door, unmoving. He knew Christina didn't want to see him, so he stayed outside, silently keeping watch.
Soon, Estelle woke up.
Through teary eyes, he looked at Christina. "Mom, I'm okay."
Despite the pain making his face pale and sweaty, he tried to comfort her.
His maturity broke Christina's heart even more. "It's okay, honey. I know you're brave. Just rest here, and the doctor said you'll be home in a few days."
She gently touched his head. "Can you tell me what happened that day? Why did you leave?"
Estelle's eyes shifted. "I saw a cute little cat. It looked hurt, limping around. I wanted to help it, but it ran away, so I chased it. Then I smelled something sweet, and everything went black."
Estelle was smart and had a good memory. Despite the two days that had passed, he remembered everything clearly.
He had only wanted to help a cat, but then he was knocked out. When he woke up, he was in a dark forest. He had tried to escape and seek help but had fallen into a ditch.
His voice was shaky but clear.
Christina held back her tears. "Don't worry. I'll find out who did this and make them pay. The doctor said you should eat now. What would you like? Mom will make it for you."
Estelle's stomach had been empty for two days and needed something soft.
Smiling brightly, Estelle said, "Mom, I want some porridge."
