Chapter 115

Chapter 115
Damien’s POV.

I rushed out as Lily, still crying, pulled me along. I noticed Ralph following behind us. As we stepped outside, my brows furrowed upon seeing a group of pack members gathered in the courtyard. When they saw me, they quickly moved aside, and Natasha stood at the forefront, holding a child who appeared to be around ten years old.

“The child is a Reprobatus.”

“Is that so?”

“It’s quite alarming,” I overheard whispers from the other pack members.

I closed my eyes. “Natasha!” I called out her name.

She immediately searched for me amidst the crowd.

“Damien…” she began.

I stepped even closer to them and looked directly into her eyes.

“What’s the meaning of this?” I asked firmly, demanding an explanation while silencing everyone around us.

The murmurs subsided, and tension hung in the air as all eyes focused on Natasha.

“Perhaps you have forgotten that you are standing in front of the Alpha’s house. This kind of disrespect is unacceptable,” I scolded them angrily.

Natasha shook her head. “No, Damien. I am only trying to protect your pups. I saw this rejected wolf lurking around them,” she explained, her gaze shifting towards them.

Lily tightened her grip on my hand. “Dad, please make it stop,” she pleaded, tears streaming down her face.

My heart ached at the sight of my daughter in distress. What I feared most, aside from seeing my wife in pain, was witnessing my own pups crying and suffering.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. “Enough,” I declared.

“Seriously? I’m only trying to help. Where’s your wife? Can’t she even watch over your children?” Natasha snarked.

I was about to respond when the child in her grasp squirmed, desperately trying to break free.

“Let me go!” he shouted.

I released Lily’s hand and beckoned for Daniel to embrace his sibling. But before I could reach Natasha, something stopped me dead in my tracks.

Amara. I could catch her familiar fragrance growing stronger by the second. And there she was, appearing out of thin air.

She gestured for Amelia to bring the children inside before she nonchalantly walked towards the boy and Natasha, and kicked her viciously, causing her to loosen her grip on the child’s neck.

“Mom!” I heard a slight gasp.

The boy called my wife his mother. Observing Amara, I could see the protectiveness of him emanating from her.

Was he the rejected wolf Natasha had mentioned?

“Are you a traitor? The Luna of her own pack?”

“And you’ll just stand there and do nothing?” my wolf growled. “Can you stand hearing them accuse Amara? That the Luna of the Dark Crescent Pack betrayed her own kind?”

“I don’t want to provoke her anger towards me,” I muttered.

“Unbelievable. What a coward,” my wolf snarled, disgusted.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” Amara retorted angrily.

Should I intervene?

But when our gazes met, I understood. It was as if she was silently pleading with me, urging me to remain still. It was a signal, a warning — one wrong move and I’d be finished in an instant. If I dared to take a step, I would be doomed. So, I kept my expression cold and trusted her to handle the situation.

She avoided eye contact and assisted the child before approaching Natasha and whispering something in her ear. Thanks to the enhanced hearing of our kind, I caught what she said.

“Checkmate,” she playfully said, before turning to face me. “Looks like you’ve reconsidered what I told you before. You believe her, do you? That I can betray your pack?” There was a hint of accusation in her tone.

Confusion knitted my brows together as I watched her walk away. What the hell was going on? This whole situation was becoming maddening, and Amara seemed to be purposefully toying with my mind.

I clenched my fist and couldn’t help but reprimand her through our mind link.

“Amara!” I shouted, my patience wearing thin.

But my anger only grew hotter with her teasing response.

“Enjoy your affair for now.”

“There we go again! I told you she’s not my mistress!”

I rubbed my temples and turned away from the wolves present. I closed the door with a resounding thud.

“You have to come to me and explain everything later, understand?” I commanded, taking charge of the situation. I slumped down on the sofa, listening to her response.

“Fine. Just relax and don’t get angry. You’ll ruin my plan,” she said with excitement in her voice.

A gasp escaped me as our mind link abruptly disappeared. I stared blankly at the ceiling. At least, she wasn’t furious — just being cunning.

“Ralph,” I called out to my Gamma, motioning for him to approach me.

“Yes, Alpha?” he replied, making his way over to me.

I discreetly pointed out the girl I had been noticing, who seemed to be watching me out of the corner of her eye. Something about her seemed suspicious.

“Keep an eye on her,” I whispered. “She’s unfamiliar, and her actions are raising some suspicions.”

“I’ll be sure to monitor her every move, Alpha.”

“Good. I’ll head upstairs,” I informed him.

I stepped into the hotel elevator where a small gathering was taking place. It was an engagement party for one of my close colleagues, so I couldn’t refuse to attend.

I took a deep breath and pulled out my phone. I dialed Amara’s number, and thankfully, she answered.

“Luna,” I started.

“Damien, what’s the matter? Did something happen?”

I let out a weary sigh and leaned against the elevator rail before responding.

“Do I need something to happen to talk to you?” I countered on the other line.

She fell silent for a few seconds until I heard her exhale.

“Fine, fine. Then, do you miss me?” she playfully asked.

I allowed a small smile to form on my face. “Why? Is it a crime to miss you?”

She scoffed, teasingly. “It’s nearly midnight. You should get some rest.”

“I can’t sleep. l can’t stop thinking about you. When will you tell me what’s going on, Amara?”

“Don’t worry, Damien. It will all be over soon," she said before abruptly ending the call.

I let out yet another sigh. It seemed to be the only response these situations elicited from me. When the elevator doors finally opened, I immediately headed to my room, desperately in need of some rest.

I was close to my room when my pace gradually slowed down. I furrowed my brows when I spotted Natasha standing in front of my door, seemingly waiting for me once again.

“Natasha,” I called her attention.

She turned to look at me and flashed a smile. “Hey there!”

Curiosity piqued, I asked, “What brings you here? We didn’t have any plans.”

She shook her head and appeared slightly embarrassed. “I just wanted to apologize for the commotion the other day.”

I blinked. “Oh, it’s alright,” all I managed to say.

She widened her smile. “Really? Thank you!”

I couldn’t help but remember the carefree days of our childhood. She used to have that same innocent smile back then.

“Well, if that’s all, you should head home now. It’s already midnight, and you should have someone to pick you up,” I suggested, reaching for my room door.

But before I could open it, Natasha suddenly grabbed my arm, surprising me. I looked at her, my face reflecting my bewilderment. This time, no longer was she smiling. Instead, she stared at me seriously, as if she were someone else.

“What’s the matter?”

“Damien…” she trailed off, and I waited for her to continue. “Can I sleep here tonight?”

Taken aback, I instinctively stepped back, creating some distance between us.

“What? This bitch!” my wolf cursed in my mind.

“We’ve already discussed this, Natasha,” I coldly refused.

There was a glitch in her eyes again, and suddenly, I felt heat coursing through my body.

Shit! What was occurring?

She grabbed me again, this time by the back of my neck. I tightly held onto her shoulders in an attempt to push her away. But to my surprise, I felt weak, as if my strength was draining from me.

She smiled seductively, and my vision started to blur. I blinked, trying to refocus my eyes, but my confusion turned to shock as I saw my wife’s face.

“Honey?” I uttered.

What was she doing here? Did she come because she missed me? I almost smiled at the thought.

But soon enough, I stumbled back when she forcefully kissed me. I kissed her back, knowing she was my wife, but it didn’t last long as she abruptly pulled something I couldn’t identify.

My head throbbed, and I held my forehead, leaning against the wall for support, then I strained to see what was happening to my wife. I saw another woman holding Amara by the neck. Despite feeling dizzy, I tried to approach them.

“Hey…” I weakly said, attempting to intervene.

Next thing I knew, my strength failed me, and I felt myself falling to the ground. Darkness enveloped me, and the last thought that crossed my mind was of my wife.

Luna…

I closed my eyes, wincing when I felt a stinging sensation shot through them. I tried to piece together what had happened. Then, it hit me — I was at the party.

I urgently sat up, immediately regretting it as my head seemed to spin. Taking a moment to steady myself, I scanned my surroundings. I was still in the hotel. Eventually, memories of the events started to flood back into my mind.

Natasha? Amara?

I got up and left the room, but as I stepped outside, I froze in my spot. There she was — the woman from the party, talking on the hotel landline. My body stiffened as she spoke again.

“Oh well, Amara. I slapped him for you,” she chuckled. “Come on! You should be grateful that she only gave him a kiss. What if I hadn’t shown up? Don’t be mad.”

Did I hear it right? She knew my wife.

“Fine, I’ll watch him closely. Okay, I’m on my way,” she added before ending the call.

When she turned to face me, she didn’t show any surprise at seeing me. Instead, she raised an eyebrow at me. I looked at her with a puzzled expression.

”What?” I asked, sounding grumpy.

She let out an exasperated sigh and rolled her eyes. “You should be thankful that I was just around the corner and saved your ass. If I hadn’t intervened, that woman could have successfully used her powers on you.”

I stared at her, trying to comprehend what she was saying. Then, suddenly, flashes of memories flooded my mind — the glitches when I looked into Natasha’s eyes. My fist clenched. I couldn’t believe I had almost been bewitched.

“I had no idea she could cast magic,” my wolf commented.

Neither did I.

Although I knew the fact that Natasha was Amara’s cousin, and as such, she must have inherited the same witch powers. It was hard to fathom that she would go to such lengths to use them on me.

“Anyway, I have to go. Your wife will be waiting for me,” the woman said, catching me off guard.

“Wait!” I blurted out.

She paused in her steps towards the door, her eyes narrowing as she turned to face me, crossing her arms.

“My wife… Is she okay? Does she know?” I asked.

Her response filled me with anxiety, but she just grinned mischievously.

“Do you really want me to answer that?” she teased, enjoying my discomfort.

I swallowed hard. She shrugged nonchalantly and tilted her head, her grin widening.

“Well, if you insist,” she said, drawing out the suspense. “Yes, Amara knows. In fact, she knows everything.”

My eyes widened at her answer, my mind racing with thoughts of what Amara might be feeling or thinking. But before I could fully comprehend the situation, the woman burst into laughter.

“Don’t worry too much. I told her everything, no detail was left out. Lucky for you, she wasn’t mad. But that didn’t mean she wouldn’t greet you with a slap on both cheeks when you arrive home.”

She smirked and turned away, opening the door to leave. Just before she closed it, she looked back at me, a warning in her eyes.

“Don’t look into Natasha’s eyes. She has a way of manipulating emotions, forcing you to feel what she wants you to feel,” she reminded me before closing the door. I just stared at the spot where she had exited.

“I really need to talk to my wife,” I spoke aloud to myself, taking a deep breath.

This was totally insane.
