Chapter 35 CHAPTER 35
Chapter 35 CHAPTER 35
Sera
“Very interesting,” Althea said for the millionth time. I sat down on the bed, bunching my gown between my fingers as she inspected the wood.
“How did you feel?” She turned to me. “When you used your power, how did you feel?”
I shrugged. “I can't explain it,” I sighed. “I’m not even sure I used them, I didn't feel anything happened.” I bit my lips, forcing the fact that my reflection had moved a second before down my throat.
Althea walked to the glass, bending down over it. She placed her hand over the glass, closing her eyes.
A faint light glows beneath her hand, coming from the mirror all the way to the wood.
“Yeah,” she straightened up, pulling herself away from the wood. “You definitely used your powers to do this.”
My eyes widened. “Really?”
“I sensed it,” she said, bobbing her head. “The trace is very faint, but it is quite impressive that a fragment of your power can do this.”
“Why?” I frowned.
“This wood is one of the strongest wood found in this region. All the furniture in this castle was forged by the strongest carvers we have, and they don't break easily, yet you shattered it,” she explained.
I bit my lips. The reflection I saw came up again in my mind, the way it stared back at me.
What if this wasn't me? What if it was whatever that caused this?
“I thought you'll be more excited,” Althea mused, “because you finally used your powers. Subconsciously, but still.”
“It does not matter,” I shrugged, waving it off, “unless I can use it when I want, it's practically useless.”
“Sera,” Althea rolled her eyes. “You are being too hard on yourself—”
“She is correct,” someone said from the door. I turned, and rolled my eyes when I saw who it was. “there’s no need to celebrate, if she can't use her powers when she wants to.”
“Gee, I wonder why you are here then,” I snapped. “If you already know I am such a failure, why did you come here? To gloat?”
Lucian’s gaze grew dark. “Don't bother yourself. I am not relieved of my responsibilities that I would come here to mock you.”
Oh you slimy—
“Plus, being able to unlock and gain control of your power benefits us all,” he continued coldly, walking into the room.
He stopped in front of the table, running his fingers along the cracks, studying it.
Why was the table such a big deal? Like there was broken glass all over the floor and somehow the crack was more important than that?
Lucian stood straighter. “Well then, I guess I will give you both space, so you guys can continue your training.”
Althea bowed slightly. “She has made an improvement.”
The cold king glanced at me. “Agreed.”
I stared at both of them. Lucian’s eyes darted back to the table, his jaw clenched as he looked at the crack again, and then turned to leave.
Lucian paused at the door and stared at me. I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, his cold gaze on me. My tummy rumbled and I glanced away, looking back when he finally left.
“Alright then,” Althea clapped, startling me. I was still staring at the door, to the point I hadn't noticed she had walked up to me. “we better start training now, because everyone's expectations will be raised right now.”
She was unfortunately right. I stood up, changing and following her out of my room, the broken vanity behind us.
I closed Althea’s door, a sigh leaving me. After how many hours, I couldn't do anything. Whatever I had done earlier, was definitely a fluke, one I was not going to easily replicate it seemed.
I stared down at the hallway leading to my room, and turned the opposite way, heading east. If I couldn't get my powers to work, sulking would not help anyone, nor would it bring me close to finding Elena.
I got to Caspian’s chambers and stopped. Two guards, holding sharp spears, were standing in front of his room, facing the large windows.
“Hello,” I greeted hesitantly, shocked at seeing them. There's a muffled sound coming from behind the door, scattered whisperings that echoed down the hallway. “Can you move?”
“No, we cannot let you see him.”
I frowned. “Why?”
“We are on strict orders, my lady,” the guard replied.
“Well I'm here to feed him,” I grunted, holding my hips. “Let me through.”
“Our king gave strict instructions that you are not to be let in until your training has improved.”
Oh that—
“Did you not hear what I did today in my room?” I asked, standing straighter. “Trust me, I am strong enough to take both your asses even.”
The guards both glanced at each other, and then, reluctantly moved. I passed in-between them and grabbed the door handle.
Caspian screams inside, causing me to flinch but I stopped myself from reacting, very much aware of the guards looking at me and I pushed the door open, stepping into the room.
It is darker now, all the windows closed and covered with a black cloth. There is a single source of light from the fireplace and Caspian was sitting on his bed, his head low.
He glanced up at me, his curls falling down his face, red lost eyes gleaming in the dark. “You,” he breathed. “What are you doing here?”
I cleared my throat. “I came to see how you are doing, and for information,” I replied.
“Leave—”
I pulled the silver blade from my sleeves, slicing my hand easily. Silver blood pooled up and hit the floor, as Caspian stood.
“What are you doing?”
I walked to the mas king, my hand outstretched. “Drink,” I commanded softly, offering my hand.
Caspian shakes his head, closing his eyes. The curse flew out of his mouth faster, his hands clutching his poor strands like he wanted to pull them off.
I glanced at the wound in my hand. The blood was in a steady flow now, so I took another step towards him, allowing it to fall down.
In an instant, I was flying across the room, my back hitting a wall as Caspian grabbed my hand, sinking his fangs into it.
I hissed, biting my tongue at the slice of pain. He let out little moans, sucking greedily on my blood and I let him.
“Have you found out anything about Elena?” I asked.
Caspian glanced at me, his eyes clearer, but still lost. He doesn't answer, instead his fangs sunk deeper.
I pushed him away. His fangs were coated in my blood, and he leaned, trying to take my hand to his mouth again. “No,” I stopped him. “Not another drop, until you reply to me.”
His face grows dark. Almost as dark as that day he nearly sucked me dry, but I didn't move. “Uh uh,” I raised the silver blade, “give me an answer Caspian.”
His eyes went to the blade, and widened a bit. “Well, well,” he said, his voice rough. “I did not expect that.”
I raised a brow.
“There was a register the sellers kept, and I found Elena in it.”
Fuck. My heart began to race, and I dropped my hand. That was good news, that was great news.
“The vampire that bought her though, is a very ruthless one. He hunts humans for sports, just because he loves to watch blood spill,” he continued.
“What does that mean?” I croaked.
Caspian’s eyes grew dark again. “It means she might already be dead.”
