Chapter 48 ......

Chapter 48 ......
Selene's pov.

After the chaotic night at the restaurant, thanks to Becca Flynn for scheming such acts to tear Vale away from me.

Although I contributed to it big time, Vale and I are now on good terms and I don't wish to ever hurt him like that again.

Thankfully, Ethan didn't show up when Vale dropped me at home, which gave enough time to drive out of the house.

Ethan must still be hanging out with his friends, good for him.

My phone buzzed in my little purse, I brought it out, expecting to see a text from Vale.

It was Ethan asking where I was.

I started typing a response, to let him know I am home, in case he was looking for me.

Then I deleted the message and tucked my phone into the purse.

Right now, I don't want to talk to him. I need some space for myself.

I made sure the door was latched from the inside, so I wouldn't be disturbed.

Two hours later, after I received a heartfelt goodnight message from Vale, I was staring at the ceiling in my room.

I heard the knob of my door turn, someone was trying to get in.

My eyes rested on the door, I didn't move. I heard keys jingle and insert into the keyhole.

He even has a key to my room, mom must have lost her mind to give him one.

The door didn't open for him so he resorted to knocking.

"Selene, it's me."

I don't need to hear his voice before I know it's Ethan.

He knocked again, this time louder and rapt.

"Selene, open the door"

He said it like twice then stopped.

I heard the sound of his feet retreating.

I released a sigh wedged in my throat.

'not tonight, Ethan.' I whispered and closed my eyes.

The next morning, I woke up very early when I knew he wouldn't be awake, so I hastened downstairs after I was dressed.

"Quite early for school."

I froze at the sound of Alfred's voice.

I have a nervous laugh.

"Ha ha, I just like going early."

He was also dressed for work, he was holding a cup of steaming coffee in his hand.

"I'd like to steal some minutes of your time, if you don't mind."

I don't know what this is about, but I couldn't bring myself to say no.

"Sure." I dropped my backpack on the chair.

Alfred signaled a maid to get me coffee.

"Oh no, I'm good."

"You should drink something." He insisted.

I accepted the cup from the maid and set it on the table before me.

Alfred took a long sip from his cup before he dropped it.

"I would like to ask about Ethan."

"Ohhh, what about him?"

"I want your honest response Selene, that's the only way we can help Ethan."

I gave a little nod.

"How is he coping with the tutoring? Your mom gave me some pleasant feedback, but I believe she's trying to make him appear good in front of me."

This is what it's about, Ethan's improvement.

"There's no need to worry about Ethan, he's actually smart and quick to learn. I thought I'd have trouble tutoring him, but it's been a breeze."

Alfred squinted his eyes, he wasn't buying it

"I hope you aren't saying it because the two of you have become close?"

"Close?" I swallowed hot coffee to help with my uneasiness, what does he mean by close?

"The constant arguments and bickering from the two of you has died down since you started tutoring him. It wasn't part of my plan, but I'm glad something good came out of it."

My lips widened in a smile.

"Yeah, we bonded really good over our books"

"As a matter of fact, I have plans for all of us as a family. A short vacation, three days at my beach house on the outskirts of town."

I don't know if I should be excited about that, but I have to make an appreciative face for Alfred.

"Wow, I can't wait. I have to go to school now."

I grabbed my backpack just as I heard someone walking down the stairs, I did not wait to check out who it was.

A vacation? I have never gone to one of those before, I'm sure mom would be excited. It's her dream life after all.

I told Vale about Alfred's plan for the weekend when I arrived at school

He rubbed the top of my palm with his thumb.

"That sucks, it means I won't get to see you for three days, I was already planning our second date."

My cheeks flushed at the thought.

"When I get back we'd go on our second date."

"Alfred sounds nice, a shame his son isn't like him." Vale grumbled.

"Cut Ethan some slack okay, he wasn't the only one guilty of last night's tragedy."

Oops, that came out fast.

Vale moved back an inch, his facial expression changed.

"Care to elaborate?"

I really don't want to do this, but I have to be truthful.

"If you hadn't asked Isaiah that question about who he'd pick as captain, Ethan wouldn't have kissed me as payback. You're a good guy Vale, I don't expect you to be picking fights."

He wiped at his forehead when I was done.

"You are right, I did that on purpose and I won't do it again."

He kissed my cheek softly and we were good again, I love how we always smooth things out so fast.

By the end of school day, I was on my way back home with promises to call and text Vale everyday during my vacation.

I was surprised to see the car already loaded when I arrived.

Mom signaled me over to the car, Alfred and Ethan were already there.

"There's no need to go upstairs, I have packed everything you'd need at the beach house."

"Let me go change out of my uniform at least."

Mom gave me her scornful look

"No, we are leaving now."
