RP Chapter 50
RP Chapter 50
Kyle hated leaving Kacey out of his sights again, but he thought now that the danger was over, the case solved, she’d be safe and keep her word. Was he putting too much faith in her? Maybe, but he had to start trusting her a little bit at a time again.
He made it to the fifth room and walked into the viewing room. Sure enough, the past couple of hours hadn’t been a delusion or a dream. There sat his father, who had passed on quite a few years ago, talking with the director.
“Twenty years later and he’s rose from the dead, pretty insane.” Davis chimed in from behind.
Kyle turned to see his older brother leaning back against the gray wall, his foot pressed back into the wall, arms crossed tightly with a scowl. “Has he explained much?”
“Not that I can hear, he’s been talking very quietly with boss.” Davis scowled deeper.
Kyle turned back to look back at their boss and the man they grew up without. “No wonder Donovan jumped when he did, because there is no way he didn’t know it wasn’t Jonas, he wouldn’t have jumped if he hadn’t known, he kept it from us.” A little bit of anger filled him when the door was thrown open. Kyle turned and in walked the youngest Davenport brother.
“Has he said anything?” Donovan practically pressed his nose to the one way.
“Not yet that we’ve heard, he’s been talking to boss, but it’s been very hush-hush,” Davis spoke first. “What I want to know is if you had an inkling that he was who put you up to this task why didn’t you say anything?”
Donovan turned towards Kyle and Davis. “I didn’t know, I honestly didn’t know what it was all about, besides the fact there was possibly a dirty agent, not four or the gun lords were behind it all.”
Kyle let out a huff. “Don’t ever do something like this again, Donovan, especially the whole pulling Kace into it.”
“Where is Kacey?” Donovan and Kyle locked eyes as Davis moved from the wall, stepping closer to them.
“She’s out in the lobby waiting for me to take her home,” Kyle answered shortly, then turned back to look at Cunningham and Jonas. “Why do you think they are talking so quietly?” Kyle crossed his arms over his chest as he stared into the famous cobalt eyes.
“Who knows,’’ Davis’s voice gruffer than usual. “All I know is I’m actually angry, he could have come back sooner, twenty years is just a little too late.”

Donovan swung to face Davis. “Obviously if they tried to murder him once then they would have tried again, he had to go, maybe he did it to protect us and Mom.”
Kyle let out a groan. “Damn, has anyone thought to tell Mom that he’s here?” He turned back to his brothers to see Davis scowling again.
“Hell no, not until I know what the hell plans on doing, I’m not getting her hopes up.”
Kyle had to agree, so much to do, so much to figure out.
“Who’s doing the interrogations of the others?” Kyle asked.
“Shawn took Sharps and Sheldon, Cunningham wanted the other four and Jonas, he didn’t want Cooper doing them after he saw Kacey, she’s pretty banged up again and I think he just wants a piece of them after what they’ve done to her,” Davis paused a moment. “Is Kacey okay?”
“About as okay as can be expected, I have to have her hand over her phone, she recorded everything that happened in the warehouse, I know it’s going to be a very long night.”
“Only one night?” Davis cocked an eyebrow.
“For now, I don’t want it to be too much after what happened today, she’s getting a little mercy from me.”
“Look, Cunningham, I want to talk to my sons’.”
All three of the Davenport boys turned to see Jonas staring at them, even though he couldn’t see them it was like he knew exactly where they were standing.
“Fine, I got a couple more men to badger anyways but I’m not done with you yet.”
“Wouldn’t expect it any other way, boss.”
Cunningham got up from the table, shaking his head heading out of the room. They turned when the door to the viewing room opened. “I’m sure you all heard him, you can go talk to him if you guys are ready, that is,” he gazed around or a moment then his dark eyes landed on Kyle. “Where’s Kacey?”
“In the lobby waiting for me, once I’m done talking to Jonas I’m taking her home.”
Cunningham nodded his head in agreement then headed to the other rooms.
Kyle turned to his brothers. “Well, do we want to talk to him?”
Davis scowled while Donovan was already out the door.
Kyle shook his head. “We can at least hear him out, we don’t have to talk back, we don’t have to forgive him right away, but you have to admit to being curious.”
Davis rolled his eyes but stalked past Kyle and Kyle followed him slowly. He understood why Davis was angry, Davis had been sixteen at the time, Kyle, thirteen and Donovan seven. Davis stepped up a lot to be the man around the house, the one who taught Donovan and himself so much. Davis had pretty much been their dad.
But there were things they did not need to understand. Be the adults they had become and handle the situation the best they could.
Kyle glanced down the hallway and saw Kacey was still sitting where he had instructed her. Something inside him seemed to burst and he was filled with pride. She was finally listening to him; she had been one tough cookie when it came down to it and he was proud of her for that, but he was prouder that she was listening to him.
He headed into the interrogation room to see Jonas and Donovan sitting and Davis leaning against the wall the same way he had in the viewing room.
Kyle could already see it ending badly between Jonas and Davis. Kyle stood between Jonas and Davis but didn’t block his older brother’s view.
“So why did you decide to reach out to me over Kyle and Davis?” Donovan broke the silence.
Kyle locked eyes with Jonas.
“The other two wouldn’t have given me a shot, one they’re probably never going to forgive me for disappearing and I don’t blame them, a lot of responsibility fell on them, especially Davis, with him being the eldest.
“Second, they’ve been here so long they probably wouldn’t have believed their father’s old partners and another agent teamed up with two-gun lords.”
Donovan didn’t say anything more, he sunk back in the chair.
Kyle felt terrible for Donovan, he was a damn good agent and their so-called father, who hadn’t even taken the time to figure it out, completely used Donovan.
