Chapter 54 I Regret It

Chapter 54 I Regret It

Emma had only wanted to go out for a walk, but then she saw Mabel rushing over in a hurry.

Out of curiosity, she followed Mabel to the paternity testing center.

She didn't expect to witness such a good show.

Previously, even when evidence was placed right in front of Marcus, he wouldn't believe it. So why was he forcing Evelyn to do a paternity test today?

Out of the corner of his eye, Marcus caught a glimpse of clothing at the door. Instinctively thinking it was some gossipy reporter, he barked angrily.

"Get in here!"

Emma slowly walked out, her face still pale from her injuries, with bandages wrapped around other parts of her body.

Her expression was calm as she explained, "Just happened to see it. You guys carry on."

"Emma?" Marcus's expression changed, the fierceness in his eyes instantly turning to concern as he quickly walked over to help her.

"You shouldn't be out of bed with your injuries. Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"

Emma avoided his hand, stepping aside, her tone cold. "I'm fine."

Mabel's hand trembled as she pointed at Emma, as if she couldn't catch her breath, her vision spinning.

"You! You must be the one who put my son up to doing a paternity test on Evelyn! You damned bitch!"

Evelyn took the opportunity to stand behind Mabel, looking wronged, her body soft as she sobbed.

"Mabel, I don't know what I did wrong to make Marcus doubt me like this. Now that Emma just had her accident, Marcus wants to do a paternity test. If word gets out, my reputation will be ruined!"

Hearing this, Mabel hated Emma even more.

"Bitch! Every time you show up, you stir up trouble in our family. Why didn't you die in that car accident!"

With that, Mabel grabbed something nearby to throw at her, but Marcus stopped her.

"Mother, you're out of line!"

He stood in front of Emma, his eyes cold. "If I remember correctly, Mother, you should be resting at the nursing home. Why are you here? Did someone tip you off?"

Marcus's eyes swept over Evelyn's pale face, a smile curving his lips.

"Or are you also afraid to let me know the truth?"

Emma raised an eyebrow at this show, feeling somewhat gleeful.

Mabel valued family bloodline above all else. If she found out the child in Evelyn's belly wasn't Marcus's, would she drop dead on the spot?

In the standoff, Mabel finally gave in.

"Fine, do it!" Mabel's face was ashen as she slumped into a chair, a strange light flashing in her eyes. "Marcus, if this child is yours, you must get married immediately and make the child the heir of the Donovan family."

"Okay." Marcus agreed.

Evelyn frantically crawled to Mabel's feet, her voice trembling.

"Mabel, my stomach hurts. Can we do it next time? I only love Marcus. How could I possibly mess around with other men?"

Mabel leaned down slightly, her aged face full of life's wisdom, her hand gently patting Evelyn's shoulder.

"Go do it. Don't worry."

Evelyn seemed to understand something. The worry on her face turned to calm as she lowered her head in a submissive manner.

"Okay, I'll listen to you. Since you've said so, I'll do it."

As Evelyn passed by Marcus, her body swayed as if she might collapse at any moment, as if a gust of wind could blow her over.

"Marcus, since you don't trust me, I'll use evidence to prove myself. But after this, can we stop fighting? Can we just live our lives together?"

Marcus gave no response, just watched calmly.

Before Evelyn followed the doctor into the blood draw room, she quickly flashed Emma a smile.

That confident look made Emma lose interest.

Emma laughed mockingly at herself. Evelyn was Marcus's lover and Mabel's chosen granddaughter-in-law. Whether or not this child was Marcus's, in the end it would only belong to the Donovan family.

Emma looked away. It seemed Marcus was destined to be cuckolded.

She was about to leave when Marcus called out to her.

"Emma, wait."

Emma didn't turn around.

"Emma, let's talk."

Marcus's attitude was very humble, almost coaxing Emma.

Mabel frowned deeply. How could the child she raised revolve around a woman like this!

Emma didn't answer and walked straight out.

Marcus followed behind her, wanting to speak but hesitating. His eyes fell on Emma's protruding belly, his expression complicated.

"Emma, the child."

Emma stepped back to distance herself from him, looking at him warily. "What does the child have to do with you?"

"I'm not here to fight you for this child." Marcus's Adam's apple bobbed as he looked at Emma's guarded expression, his heart aching.

"Emma, I know this child is mine, but the situation is complicated right now. I need some time. Wait for me."

Every time Marcus saw her, the longing in his heart couldn't wait even a second.

He wanted to hold her in his arms and never be apart again.

Emma's fingers trembled slightly at her side.

"Marcus, do you think I'm easy to fool? Wait for you? Why should I wait for you! I have my own life, and the child is only mine. What right do you have? Just because you moved a couple times in bed?"

Emma bit the soft flesh between her lips and teeth, controlling her anger until she tasted blood in her mouth.

"If you really want what's best for me, stay away from me. Let's part on good terms!"

Part on good terms? Just thinking about a future without Emma made Marcus's heart ache so much he couldn't breathe!

He couldn't let go!

Marcus blocked Emma's way back, his tone almost obsessive.

"Emma, I can't divorce you. Do you really think you can easily divorce me!"

Emma was pushed back step by step, trying to stop him. "Don't forget you agreed to the divorce!"

"So now I regret it. Emma, I shouldn't have agreed to let go."

Marcus's natural aura of authority was overwhelming, forcing her to retreat step by step. In just a second, he had Emma trapped in a small space.

"Emma, why did you hide the child from me?"

Emma laughed mockingly with red eyes. "Hide it? Marcus, have you forgotten who wanted me to abort the child! Does someone like you deserve to know about its existence? Move! Or I'll call the police."

"You should know that without my permission, you can't go anywhere."

Emma was cornered with nowhere to go. Her back pressed against the cold wall, looking at Marcus's almost crazed expression, her breath caught. Suddenly she raised her hand and slapped Marcus across the face!

"Are you awake now!"

The disgust in Emma's eyes completely pierced Marcus's heart.

He didn't know when he had grabbed her wrist, causing her wound to tear open again.
