Chapter 53 Paternity Test

Chapter 53 Paternity Test

Marcus had just reached upstairs when his phone started ringing non-stop.

He looked at Evelyn's name flashing on the screen, feeling irritated and even a hint of murderous intent!

What role did Evelyn play in this car accident?

Marcus's earlier impulse was defeated by reality. Now that Emma was pregnant, she absolutely couldn't be hurt again.

If he rushed over there recklessly, would the Thomas family target Emma again?

Marcus stood at the door of Emma's hospital room.

His hand rested on the door handle but he didn't push it open for a long time, finally turning to leave.

Once he resolved everything, he would definitely give Emma an explanation!

The moment Marcus answered the phone, Evelyn's sweet voice came through, with a probing tone.

"Marcus, where are you? I heard Emma was in a car accident. Is it serious?"

Marcus's tone was casual, "Doesn't matter, she won't die."

"Still, she was once your adopted daughter. Marcus, can I go with you to see her? I'm downstairs at the hospital right now."

Evelyn kept probing. She had just arrived and got the news that Marcus was at the hospital watching over Emma, which immediately made her panic.

She was a woman too, so naturally she knew Marcus had truly fallen in love with Emma!

She was afraid Emma would complain to Marcus about her, so she couldn't wait to call and probe.

A cruel smile curved Marcus's lips, "Sure, come up."

He hadn't planned to make a move against Evelyn so soon, but since she was rushing to her own death, let it begin.

Marcus put one hand in his pocket, took out his phone, and stood by the window looking at the view below, his eyes like an impenetrable fog, instinctively dangerous.

The call connected quickly, and Marcus's tone was flat.

"Arrange a paternity test for me. Yes, the fetus is over six weeks."

Evelyn gently held her belly as she hurried upstairs. The moment she saw Marcus, a worried expression appeared on her face.

"I'm here, Marcus. Who on earth wants to kill Emma?"

"Yeah." Marcus's gaze slowly swept over her, making her heart tremble with fear. "Who could it be? How dare they hurt my person. Once I catch them, I'll make them regret being born into this world."

The smile on Evelyn's face froze. Her hand holding Marcus's arm tightened bit by bit.

"I don't know either."

By the time Evelyn realized it, Marcus had already led her in the opposite direction from Emma's room.

Evelyn sensed something was wrong and refused to go further.

"This direction isn't right, Marcus. Emma's room is upstairs."

"The direction is right." Marcus glanced at her sideways, his lips curving into a cold arc. "Come with me."

"Marcus, I suddenly don't feel well. I... I want to go back."

Evelyn's heart suddenly started racing!

She instinctively knew something bad was going to happen. Marcus was too strange today!

Emma was about to turn and leave when Marcus gripped her arm tightly, almost crushing her bones!

"Where are you going!"

"Marcus, where exactly are you taking me!"

Evelyn panicked. She looked up and saw a sign on the wall next to them: [Paternity Testing Center]

In an instant, Evelyn struggled frantically, "Marcus, what are you doing? Don't you trust me anymore? I only love you! Have you forgotten our past? You said you would always protect me. I don't want to do a paternity test, it's not good for the baby. How about we wait until the baby is born, okay?"

Marcus stood still, the pressure around him so low it was suffocating.

Looking at her, he decided to give her one last chance.

"Evelyn, whose child are you really carrying!"

The color drained from Evelyn's face. Her eyes reddened, tears falling drop by drop as she kept shaking her head. "It's yours of course, Marcus. Why would you doubt me! Did Emma say something to you? She's trying to drive a wedge between us!"

"Is that so?" The last bit of sentiment in Marcus's eyes disappeared completely.

At the same time, a doctor in a white coat named Lanny walked over. "Mr. Donovan, which one of you needs the paternity test!"

"Me and the child in her belly. How soon can we get the results?" Marcus gripped Evelyn's arm tightly, making it impossible for her to escape or hide.

Evelyn completely panicked, her body frozen in place. She quickly pulled out her phone and started sending messages.

Lanny answered quickly, afraid that being even a second slow would get him caught up in this wealthy family drama.

"Three hours! I can rush the results for you! We just need a non-invasive paternity test, a blood draw will confirm it!"

"Good, let's start."

Marcus dragged her into the blood draw room. Evelyn's forehead was covered with beads of sweat.

Her eyes pleaded, completely panicked. "Marcus, don't do this. I can guarantee the baby is yours! What's gotten into you?"

At this moment, Lanny wished he could disappear from the scene. He was afraid he'd heard too many secrets and would be silenced the next day.

In all of Silverstone City, who hadn't heard of Marcus's reputation?

Marcus remained unmoved, looking coldly at Evelyn who was still acting.

"Fine. If the child is really mine, I'll marry you and give you half of the Donovan family assets. But if it's not mine, you know how I deal with traitors, don't you, Evelyn."

Evelyn's face turned pale. After thinking for a moment, she wanted to pretend to faint.

Marcus seemed to see through her plan and reminded her coldly, "If you pass out, we'll still draw your blood."

Evelyn completely panicked. She grabbed Marcus's clothes, almost kneeling on the ground.

"Marcus, let me explain. My child is really yours! Didn't we agree before? We would definitely have a child of our own, whether it's a boy or a girl."

Her face was covered with tears, looking as pitiful as if she'd been wrongly accused.

Lanny sat down with a syringe in his hand, the silver needle gleaming coldly in the light.

"Please extend your hand."

He sat on the other side, all business.

Evelyn curled up, refusing to extend her arm. But Marcus pried open her arm finger by finger, forcibly pressing her arm onto the table.

Just as the cold needle was about to pierce her arm.

Suddenly the door opened and Mabel burst in!

"What are you doing? Marcus! Stop this!"

Mabel's gaze was sharp as a knife, sweeping harshly over Lanny before looking at Marcus. "Marcus, you suspect her child isn't yours? Do you know how much negative impact this will have on both our families if word gets out! The gossip media are all downstairs waiting to see us become a joke!"
