Chapter 49 A Perfect Press Conference
Chapter 49 A Perfect Press Conference
That evening, the incident in Evelyn's hospital room quickly blew up, fueled by the Thomas family.
The internet was flooded with discussions about it.
Some people claiming to be insiders even released surveillance footage from the hospital room.
In the video, the camera angle was pointed at Emma's side.
You could only see Emma's hand pushing forward, followed by Evelyn crying and accusing her.
Some others even revealed that when passing by the room, they heard Emma and Evelyn arguing inside.
The online comments were filled with people cursing and attacking Emma.
The extreme ones, led by instigators, even started boycotting Emma's studio products and throwing trash at the studio entrance in protest.
In no time, the hashtag "Emma, vicious" shot to the top of trending topics.
Mary paced back and forth, muttering, "What do we do now? This is a complete disaster! That bitch Evelyn! She's obviously framing you! And these idiots all believe her!"
"Emma, don't worry. Starting tomorrow, I'll hire dozens of bodyguards to stay with you at all times. Or maybe you should just stay out of sight for a while!"
But Emma was actually enjoying reading these comments while casually snacking.
She even felt the current attention wasn't enough, so she spent a thousand dollars to hire some trolls to boost the topic's visibility.
Mary happened to see this and her jaw dropped.
"Wait, Emma, are you losing your mind? You're actually helping to increase the attention?"
"No, this is exactly what I want. Come on, use your company's official account to help boost the visibility too."
Emma smiled brightly.
Mary nearly rolled her eyes and fainted. "You're going to be the death of me! Snap out of it!"
"Okay, okay, I'm done teasing you. Here's the thing - I have evidence that can turn this around. I just need this to get more attention. The more people curse me now, the more people will curse her later, multiplied."
Only then did Mary sit down, relieved. "I was worried for nothing! As long as you have a way to handle this."
"Just sit back and enjoy the show."
Finally, the scheduled time arrived.
Emma showed up at the press conference in a black dress. The moment she appeared, countless accusations and insults came flooding in.
Countless media outlets rushed to interview Emma.
She went straight to the stage, her eyes scanning the room until she spotted Evelyn sitting to one side.
She still looked haggard, playing the role of a victim.
Many reporters were interviewing her.
Evelyn welcomed them all, putting on an understanding and gracious act.
"What's done is done. If Emma is willing to apologize, I'm willing to give her a chance."
"I just see her as a child. Emma is quite pitiful too, having lost her parents at a young age."
With Evelyn's contrast, Emma looked even more vicious.
But she didn't care. She picked up the microphone, her calm voice coming through clearly.
"Everyone, please quiet down. Today I've specially prepared this press conference for Evelyn."
Emma paused and looked at Daniel's gesture from below the stage, then continued.
"First, let me show everyone some evidence. Number one, I want to publicly accuse Evelyn of previously hiring gang members to vandalize my studio."
As Emma finished speaking, the big screen behind her showed surveillance footage from an alley.
Evelyn, wearing a hat and mask, was making a cash transaction with several gang members.
Just as she was about to leave the alley, probably feeling safe, Evelyn took off her hat and mask, revealing a face everyone was very familiar with.
Instantly, the crowd erupted.
All kinds of voices emerged.
"I know about this! This incident made the news!"
"Those three criminals are really the same three from the alley!"
"But that's still no reason for Emma to push a pregnant woman! She's pregnant herself and has no empathy!"
...
The color drained from Evelyn's face. Her mind raced for a solution. She absolutely couldn't admit it!
"That's not true! Computer technology is so advanced now! How can you be sure this video isn't artificially created? My friends can testify that I have an alibi for that day."
Evelyn slammed the table and stood up to confront Emma.
Emma had anticipated this. She nodded, "You're right, which is why we already applied for evidence verification. Here's the authentication certificate proving it's not a composite."
Emma picked up a thick stack of documents from the table and scattered them into the air in batches.
Professional certification stamped by government departments - no one could question it.
Evelyn was getting nervous, but she maintained her surface calm, forcing herself to stay composed.
"Emma, today is supposed to be an apology, not a place for you to make excuses! Besides, I'm Marcus's future wife. Why would I bother with someone like you who married Marcus through despicable means!"
The reporters below caught the subtext in Evelyn's words.
She wasn't just representing the Thomas family, but also the Donovan family, and Marcus himself.
Smart reporters immediately launched their attacks.
"Yeah, how can you prove all this is real?"
"And you pushed Ms. Thomas, almost causing her to miscarry - that's a fact!"
"Exactly! Someone like you should go to hell, harming even a child!"
Emma had anticipated this too. Her eyes showed the confidence of someone in complete control. "What if I told you the child in Evelyn's belly isn't Marcus's?"
This statement was like a bomb dropped into the chaotic crowd.
Everyone stopped talking and turned to look at the stage.
Evelyn jumped to her feet, immediately thinking of that voice in the hospital corridor yesterday. Her composure shattered.
It really was Emma - she was in the corridor! And that previous time too!
She stood there, anxiously refuting, "Emma, what gives you the right to slander my child like this!"
Emma raised an eyebrow at her, her smile even more brazen. "Ms. Thomas, do you think Marcus would still protect you if he knew the truth?"
Evelyn felt uneasy. Thinking that Marcus was abroad and definitely wouldn't come back, she was about to signal the people she had planted in the crowd to act.
Suddenly, there was a commotion at the entrance.
Someone suddenly shouted loudly.
"Mr. Donovan! Look, it's Mr. Donovan! He's back!"
"Mr. Donovan, are you here to support your fiancée?"
"One on stage is your ex-wife, the other is your fiancée - who do you choose to believe?"
