Chapter 136
Cateline Fire
Fire Tribe
Cateline walked as fast as she could; her huge belly made it difficult. She needed Cristina and Thedeu's help to keep moving forward.
Guard Fredy stood watch nearby.
Zebeu inspected his bag, searching for something to defend himself in case someone tried to attack. He knew he wouldn't stand a chance as he was human and quite old, but he would fight if necessary.
Cateline stopped for a moment, and the sound of liquid hitting the ground alerted everyone: Cateline's bag had burst. The woman panicked due to all the nervousness. Unlike last time, this was serious; the baby was coming.
"Master?"
Cristina spoke, surprised to see Cateline's dress wet. The human was tired, but the pains were still mild.
"The baby is coming... we need to take her to the room!"
Zebeu said, smiling, stroking Cateline's back. It was all the woman needed at that moment—a little calmness and a smile. Zebeu was human, and he knew it. Cate smiled happily; she would finally hold her little one.
"No... the alpha ordered us to take her to the emergency room!"
Thedeu said seriously, not looking at the human. The smile vanished from Cateline's face upon hearing those words delivered so coldly.
The guard hesitated; he didn't know whether to obey the Alpha's order given minutes ago or to take the woman to her room, where she would have a more comfortable delivery.
Fredy sighed thoughtfully. He decided to follow the Alpha's order, even if it meant the human would have a more exhausting delivery. It was safer for her to go to the emergency room.
"Let's go to the emergency room."
The guard said seriously, taking a few steps.
Cateline started feeling stronger contractions. She didn't understand why, but the child was moving a lot inside her belly, and the pain was becoming more intense.
"We need to take her to the emergency room quickly!"
Thedeu seemed stressed; he grabbed the human's arm and pulled her forcefully.
Cristina wouldn't allow him to disrespect her master. She quickly pushed the man away. She didn't care if he was important or not; it was the wolf's duty to protect the human and her pups.
"How dare you?!"
"I'm just following the Alpha's orders!"
He replied, glaring at the enraged wolf.
Thedeu said angrily, baring his teeth at Cristina, who did the same.
Zebeu found nothing in his bag that could serve as a weapon. Nevertheless, he positioned himself in front of Cateline alongside Cristina.
"Don't you dare touch Cateline again!"
The old human healer said seriously, showing no fear as he looked at Thedeu. The atmosphere was getting tense in the corridor, and Fredy didn't know which side was right.
A strange movement caught Fredy's attention. Someone was between the rooms in the corridor. Was it a servant? A soldier? Or an enemy?
Fredy looked at the human and noticed her increasingly agonizing expression; the contractions were getting stronger, and Cateline could barely stand.
"Damn it! The baby is going to be born here! Give me the key now! Let's take her to the emergency room for delivery! Those are the Alpha's orders!"
Thedeu began shouting, and Fredy ended up giving him the key.
Cristina turned angrily to the guard; she found it very strange, and Zebeu agreed.
The guard ran off, going to check the strange movement he had noticed. He sensed something abnormal in the air—the scent was unusual.
The wolf was almost certain it was an enemy. He trusted that Thedeu would take the woman to the emergency room; it was the only way for her to remain safe.
Cristina growled upon seeing the guard leaving her alone there with Thedeu; something was different—she felt he seemed anxious about something.
The she-wolf took a few steps back, while Zebeu held onto the weak Cate, who couldn’t bear it and fell to her knees.
A loud noise came from the room where Fredy had gone to check, and then silence fell.
Thedeu put his hand to his head, lost in thought.
"Damned weak human! You're ruining our plans... the child wasn't supposed to be born now!"
He grumbled with a furious face; his expression had completely changed. That wasn’t the Thedeu they knew. What had happened to the former wolf healer??
"I knew it..."
Cristina spoke from her knees next to her master. Zebeu was almost panicking, but he could see that Cateline needed him there, strong by her side.
"It's okay, dear... take deep breaths and count the intervals between contractions... everything will be fine... I'm with you, and it will all work out. Your baby will be born healthy and safe."
Zebeu tried to support Cateline, who cried in anguish.
She was afraid that something bad might happen, but she would be strong, endure the pain, and whatever was necessary. Beside Cateline, the healer had trembling hands, looking at her in distress.
The only key to the emergency room was with Thedeu; that was the man's plan from the start, and now Cateline had nowhere to hide.
Cristina stood up angrily, positioning herself in front of Cateline and Zebeu.
"Sir... take Cateline out of here..."
Cristina showed her claws and pointed teeth; she was ready to fight. She was never a good fighter; she was born to serve. Her transformation was that of a small wolf, but that meant nothing; she could be as fierce as any giant wolf.
She would give her all to end Thedeu.
Zebeu tried to lift Cateline, but the woman couldn't stand; the pain was too much. She writhed and held her stomach, the contractions were painful for her, yet she had to endure a little longer.
"Let's go, Cate! We need to go!"
The healer tried to encourage her, and Cateline forced herself to stand, amidst groans of pain.
Cristina lunged at Thedeu, but he was quick; he dodged the woman's blows and pushed her against the wall.
She hit her back hard, and then fell to the ground.
Cristina saw that Thedeu was going after Cateline and Zebeu; she forced herself to get up and transformed completely, tearing parts of her clothes. She shook her brown fur and regained consciousness, running towards the wolf healer.
Before she arrived, two men, somewhat transformed, appeared.
They were huge. They went after the she-wolf, who dodged. Her target was Thedeu; she needed to buy time until Cateline left the place. The two men advanced towards the she-wolf, hitting her hard. She was alone, fighting against the two. Cristina screamed when hit, and Cateline, who was fleeing, looked back, terrified.
It was the first time Cateline saw Cristina in her true form. The she-wolf staggered, trying to stand up. Blood was coming from her mouth, her paws trembling.
Cateline panicked seeing her friend in that situation. She tried to step back, but Zebeu stopped her.
"Come on, Cate! We have to go!"
Cateline cried, but she saw Thedeu approaching. She needed to leave.
The human knew Cristina wanted to protect her, while the she-wolf tried to compose herself; the other two enemies transformed.
They turned into huge wolves, twice the size of Cristina. The she-wolf knew she wouldn't win that fight. With her throat wounded, she tried to howl as a last attempt to call for help.
As she started, with some difficulty, the two wolves interrupted her, advancing towards her.
Cateline turned quickly; she couldn't witness such a scene.
She tightly closed her eyes and tried to run. Behind her, there were only the sounds of painful and distressing screams from Cristina.
Cateline and Zebeu tried to run but were stopped by two more men, waiting there. Thedeu was behind everything and had carefully planned every detail in the months he stayed there.
Zebeu, already trembling, stood in front of Cate.
He would defend her with all he had, even if he wasn't like the wolves; he wasn't strong but would do everything to help Cate.
As the men approached, Tomas arrived, transformed, biting and tearing into one of the men, defending the human and the healer.
"Accursed dog!"
The man screamed, bleeding. He held his sword tightly; there was something there, on its blade; it was black.
It was Onyx poison.
Tomas couldn't speak in wolf form, but he shook his head, signaling for Cateline to run, and she did, along with Zebeu, who helped Cate run without getting hurt along the way.
The wolf stayed behind, fighting against the poisoned blades. He had promised his friend that if necessary, he would fight against death.
Cateline and Zebeu tried to reach the stairs and leave, but Cateline couldn't bear it. She thought she would die due to the extremely intense pain.
"Come on, Cate... just a little more."
The healer spoke softly, trying not to attract attention. It would soon be too late; they couldn't waste time.
