Chapter 37 End Our Relationship
Chapter 37 End Our Relationship
NEIL'S POV
I am sitting at the dining table, dinner placed in front of me, but the feeling of hunger is lost somewhere deep inside. I eat quietly, without any interest.
After a while, Kiara comes in after freshening up and sits on the chair across from me. Her eyes are still slightly red, as if she has cried a lot, yet she is trying hard to keep herself composed. An unusual silence spreads through the room, a silence that starts to hurt the ears.
Then Mom speaks softly, but her voice carries the weight of many questions, “Neil, what happened, son? What’s wrong with you? Why don’t you want a baby?”
She pauses, looks at Kiara, and then continues, “Children are a symbol of love between a couple. Their arrival makes the bond even stronger.
Then how could you even say a word like abortion? Do you even realize what impact such words have on a mother’s heart?”
Every word she says strikes my mind, but I stay firm on my decision. I put the fork down and reply directly, “You can say whatever you want, Mom, but I don’t want a baby. Ria is enough for me. I won’t take any risk.”
Mom looks at me in shock, “What kind of risk, Neil?”
I take a deep breath, as if every word is difficult to speak, “Kiara has pregnancy-related health issues. During delivery, her life could be in danger.”
The moment I say this, silence falls over the dining table. Mom and Kiara both are completely stunned.
Seeing the shock on their faces, I realize that this truth is just as sudden for them as it was for me when the doctor first told me.
I remember that day clearly sitting in the clinic room, hearing this truth for the first time, and feeling the ground slip from beneath my feet.
Then Mom looks at Kiara, “Kiara…?”
Kiara immediately speaks, as if she is not ready to accept this at all, “No, Mom, that’s not true. I don’t have any health issues. I’m perfectly fine.”
Hearing this, anger rises inside me. I say sharply, “I know more about you than you know about yourself. Do you understand?”
Pain is clearly visible in Kiara’s eyes. In a heavy voice, she says, “If you really knew me, you would never say something that hurts me this much.”
I try to control my anger and soften a little as I say, “I have said this after thinking it through. There is nothing more precious to me than you.”
But Kiara shakes her head, “I don’t want to hear anything. I only know that this is my child, and I won’t let anything happen to it, no matter what you say.”
Her stubbornness makes my breathing heavier. I do not want to take any risk with her life at all. Only one fear keeps circling in my mind what if something happens to her? Driven by this fear, my anger finally bursts out.
“Fine,” I say coldly, “if this is your stubborn decision, then from today, everything between us is over. Do whatever you want, but you have no relationship with me or my Ria anymore.”
I know these words will hurt her deeply, but I have no other choice. I don’t want to lose her, and that is exactly why I am pushing her away. Kiara keeps looking at me with tear-filled eyes, as if her entire world has shattered in a single moment.
Mom shouts angrily, “Neil! What are you saying? How can you say such things to that girl?”
I stand up from my chair.
“This is my final decision,” I say in a cold but firm tone.
Saying this, I move forward, pick up little Ria in my arms, and walk toward the room without looking back.
I am lying on the bed in my room. The lights are dim, the whole room is quiet. Little Ria is lying right beside me.
Her tiny fingers are playing with my hair sometimes she tries to make a small braid, sometimes she deliberately messes it all up and then laughs at her own mischief. Her laughter lightens the heavy weight on my heart, even if only a little.
I look at her with a soft smile and ask gently, “Princess… do you want a new baby or your mom?”
Ria looks at me. There is only honesty in her big, innocent eyes. She thinks for a second and then says cutely in her tiny voice, “Mum… maa…!!”
Her voice goes straight to my heart. I say softly, “I want your mom too. I love your mom very much.”
She doesn’t fully understand my words, but she feels the love. Becoming even cuter, she says, “No… I lo…ve… mum… maa…!!”
I laugh. I kiss her forehead lovingly and say, “Yes, we both love your mom a lot. But how do we make your mom understand this?”
Hearing this, Ria gets a little excited and says in her tiny voice, “Tell… mum… maa…!!”
With quiet tiredness and helplessness, I reply, “Your mom doesn’t understand even when I try to explain, Ria.”
Ria makes a small upset face and then goes back to playing with my hair, as if that is her own way of reacting.
That’s when my eyes fall on the door. Kiara has entered the room. There is moisture in her eyes; her face looks tired and broken. I don’t look at her, I remain lying silently. She walks slowly toward the bed and sits right beside me.
For a few moments, there is nothing in the room except the sound of breathing. Then she speaks in a heavy voice, “If you want to end our relationship, then do it.”
Her voice trembles, but she tries to appear strong. Then she adds, “But I will not give Ria to you. She is my daughter.”
Hearing this, my mind starts to lose control. Something snaps inside me.
TO BE COUNTINUE...!!!
Will she be able to understand my concern?
