Chapter 35 A Child He Never Wanted
Chapter 35 A Child He Never Wanted
Many days pass by. Mrs. Grace is now much better than before. There is no longer the same weakness in her walk, and a faint glow of life returns to her face.
The doctor’s medicines and the healing touch of time begin to show their effect on her wounds. At times, she smiles and talks to Neil, as if trying to reassure him that everything is fine now.
But Neil… Neil is still not fine. On the outside, he holds himself together, but deep inside his heart remains trapped in a confusion that has no clear end.
He often stands by the window in the silence of the night, staring at the city lights flickering on and off. His mind drifts back to that night when Mrs. Grace was attacked.
The same scene keeps replaying before his eyes his mother’s helpless voice, the smell of blood, and his own powerless scream.
Neil’s mind remains constantly consumed by thoughts of the attacker. Every morning, he wakes up with a new determination, hoping that today he will find some clue, some trace.
Police reports, CCTV footage, old statements he has gone through everything again and again. He looks at every face with suspicion. At every unfamiliar sound, his heart starts pounding faster.
Mrs. Grace senses his restlessness. She tries to comfort him. In a soft voice, she says, “Son, what was meant to happen has happened. Now move forward with your life.”
But Neil’s heart refuses to accept this. For him, this is not just an attack, it is a question raised on his mother’s honor and her safety. Until he finds the attacker, it feels impossible for him to breathe in peace.
At night, when the entire house falls asleep, Neil is left alone with his thoughts. The darkness deepens his pain even more. A long chain of questions fills his mind who was he? Why did he do this? Could he return again? Each question settles heavily on his chest.
Sometimes, a wave of anger rises within him. His fists clench, his jaw tightens. It feels as if the whole world is hiding some truth from him.
Then suddenly, a silence takes over, and in that silence only one emotion remains fear. Fear that the attacker might still be somewhere nearby. Fear that Mrs. Grace could be in danger again.
Days continue to pass, yet not even the smallest clue comes to light. This fruitless search keeps breaking Neil from the inside.
Still, he does not give up. For him, this search is not just about revenge it is the last hope of giving his mother the peace she deserves.
Since morning, I haven’t been feeling well. There is a strange weakness in my body, my head feels heavy, and my heart stays restless for no reason at all.
I keep refusing Neil again and again, telling him there’s no need to visit a doctor, that I’ll be fine. But Neil… he doesn’t listen to me even once. In his eyes, I can clearly see both stubbornness and concern. Holding my hand firmly, he almost forcefully brings me to the doctor’s clinic.
The white walls of the clinic and the sharp smell of antiseptic make me even more anxious. My check-up is done blood tests, reports, everything.
After a while, both of us are inside the doctor’s cabin. I am completely exhausted. There’s no strength left in my legs, so I rest my head on Neil’s shoulder. He doesn’t say anything, just stands there silently, as if all his strength is focused on holding me steady.
Just then, the cabin door opens and the doctor walks in. She is holding my reports in her hand. Neil straightens up immediately and asks, “Doctor, what happened? Is everything okay?” I can sense the hidden worry in his voice.
With a gentle smile, the doctor says, “Yes, everything is fine… you both are going to become parents.”
The moment I hear these words, time seems to stop for a second. I keep staring at the doctor in shock, unable to believe what my ears have just heard.
Then suddenly, a glow appears on my face. My heart starts pounding, tears of happiness fill my eyes, and I almost cry out in excitement, “What? Really?”
The doctor smiles again and says, “Yes.”
I immediately grab Neil’s arm, my fingers trembling with joy and nervousness. “Neil, did you hear that?” I say in an excited voice.
But the moment I look at him, the color drains from my face. His expression is completely blank no happiness, no surprise, just a strange stiffness.
It feels as if the doctor’s words never reached his heart at all. A cold wave runs through me. I gently shake him and whisper, “Neil?”
He looks at me and says in a flat tone, “Go outside. I need to talk to the doctor.”
I look at him, shocked and confused. “What is it that you need to talk about? You can say it in front of me,” I say softly.
His voice turns a little firm. “Don’t argue, Kiara. Go outside.”
My heart feels like it breaks. With a sad expression, I step out of the cabin without saying a word. Standing in the corridor, I keep rubbing my fingers together nervously.
Every second feels heavy. Only one question keeps spinning in my mind, Is Neil not happy? Has this news become a burden for him?
After some time, the cabin door opens. Neil comes out. His face is still serious, but something else is clearly moving behind his eyes. He comes closer to me and softly says, “Kiara…”
I look at him. “Yes?”
He stays silent for a moment, as if searching for the right words. Then he says, “Can I ask you for something? And you won’t refuse me, will you?”
My heart suddenly starts beating fast. Anxiety and hope rise together inside my chest. With a faint smile, I ask, “What could you possibly ask from me? You already have everything.”
Looking straight into my eyes, he says, “What I need… only you can give me.”
I fall silent. In his eyes, I can clearly see both hope and tears. I say that if it were up to me, I would never refuse.
He says, “I don’t want this child. Get it aborted.”
The moment I hear those words, my breath catches in my throat. My eyes widen in shock. I never expect him to say something like that.
TO BE COUNTINUE...!!!
Why would he say something like that?
