Chapter 180: One last time
Chapter 180: One last time
Harry quietly went and sat behind his desk with his hands clasped together, “Can I be alone?
Nathan sighed and shook his head hopelessly and left the office,
Carina drove to the hospital, and went to Claudia’s ward, she lay on the examining table and stared at the ceiling,
“Can you check on the baby for me?” she asked.
Claudia shook her head, “I won’t advise you to do this, it would make it harder for you to get rid of it.”
“Oh, I thought you wanted me to keep it?” Carina sarcastically replied.
“I haven’t said anything,” she replied.
“So why did you tell Harry?” Carina asked, sitting up.
Claudia blushed and took a few steps back, “Don’t get me wrong. I just felt that he needed to know at least.”
Carina stared at her and laughed, “I love how everything is opposite this time. You wanted me to get the abortion the last time. Now look at you.”
“I really liked you with Harry, he was a great guy,” Claudia confessed.
“But we are no longer together,” Carina stated bitterly.
“But, maybe you can work things out,” Claudia replied.
“You really think that will happen? Harry is done with me.” She replied, “He said that if I keep the child, then maybe we can get back together but if I let it go then there’s no chance for us.” Carina replied. “I don’t want pity.”
She lay her head back down on the operating table this time Claudia lifted her shirt and rubbed the gel on her abdomen.
“What are you doing?”
“Maybe if we hear the baby’s heartbeat we can ask them if they want to live or not,” Claudia replied.
Carina nodded slowly and lay down on the bed while Claudia pulled her clothes down and examined, rubbed the gel on her abdomen again, and then placed her speculum on it. The sound of the baby’s heartbeat filled the ward.
She turned the monitor to face Carina and smiled fondly, “That’s the little baby,”
Carina stared at it and her face broke into a smile, “How old is it?”
“This looks like 6-8 weeks, you would have to tell me when you missed your period.”
“I never missed my period, the flow just got lighter but it does that sometimes so I didn’t think it was a big deal,” Carina replied.
“So two months? That works,” Claudia replied.
“Are you sure or you are just speculating?”
“Come on Carina everything in this world is by speculation, you can’t be too sure. Don’t let your doctors fool you, they are all speculating like I am right now.” Claudia replied defensively.
“I shouldn’t have come to you,” Carina replied.
“Yes, you should have gone straight to the abortion clinic.”
They both went silent,
“You were right, I shouldn’t have listened to the heartbeat and watched the fetus on that sonogram. I’m in my feelings now.” Carina said slowly. “Claudia, should I let this baby go?”
“I would say no, but this is your life, you decide,” Claudia replied.
“I’m scared that I would lose this one like I lost the other one.”
Claudia shook her head, “That was Deon’s baby. This is Harry’s baby.”
“And what’s the difference?”
“Harry gave you a chance to be his wife, I feel his baby will also give you a chance to be a mom.” Claudia optimistically replied.
Carina helped back her tears, it was true that Harry gave her a chance to be his wife even when he knew she was lying to his face, maybe it was time to also give his seed a chance to grow. Who knows? Maybe this time it wouldn’t be a disaster like the other one was.
“Hmm,” Carina hummed. Making Claudia a bit confused.
“So what are you going to do?”
Carina sat up and shrugged, “Maybe I was meant to be a single mom.”
Claudia shook her head, “Not when I exist. That won’t happen, I won’t let it. I will be the baby’s father Carina stared at her as they both burst out laughing.
“See you later, I have to go now,” Carina said and hopped off the bed.
Carina had barely gone for 5 minutes when Claudia’s phone began to ring. It was a call from Nathan.
“Meet me in the cafeteria,” he said when Claudia picked up.
Claudia rushed to the cafeteria and stood at the entrance casting anxious gazes through the crowd trying hard to spot Nathan. He was about three seats away from the middle lane, he lifted his hands and waved at her so Claudia ran up to him and sat at the opposite end of the table.
“Did she get rid of the baby yet?”
Claudia shook her head, “No, but I don’t know what she will decide tomorrow. She might decide to change her mind, who knows? You can never trust these pregnancy hormones.” Claudia replied.
“Well, I think I have an idea of how to try and bring the two of them together again,” Nathan announced.
Claudia raised her eyebrows curiously, “You do?”
“I think so, Carina and Harry are just stubborn, I know they love each other or else Harry wouldn’t have tried to talk her into keeping it and Carina wouldn’t have changed her mind about letting it go,” Nathan stated.
Claudia nodded in agreement “I wish they could sort out their differences but the thing is, we can’t force them to. Harry has every right to be mad at Carina, that's why I’m not trying to interfere.”
“But what if we can bring them back together?”
“How? I’m willing to do anything.” Claudia replied.
“Anything?” Nathan echoed.
“Yes, anything.”
Nathan sat back and smiled, “I knew I had come to the right person.”
“Come on, you can never go wrong when it comes to me. So tell me, what’s the big plan?
Nathan looked at her and pursed his lips, he had no idea if this would work like it had the first time but he went ahead and proposed it.
