Chapter 85 CHAPTER EIGHTY FIVE
ROMAN’S POV
My head was throbbing massively, I groaned loudly, vomiting into the bucket my mother had placed beside my bed.
I could feel the sweat soaking my bedsheets, and honestly it was disgusting and I know I probably smelled badly, but there was nothing I could do.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with him, honey it’s been three days, and yet even the pack doctors can’t identify what’s wrong.”
I could hear my mothers loud voice, arguing with my dad for the fourth or was it fifth time now.
I was downright exhausted, and I needed whatever this was to stop.
“You know what you need to do,” Ronan mutters dryly. “I say fight for what rightfully belongs to us, not lay here pathetically
I groaned,” not again,” I muttered. “That’s not the issue, besides we were never even recognized as her mate, so how can my sickness be her fault?”
I honestly don’t know where my wolf got the idea that my sickness was due to Emily rejecting the mate bond, which was ridiculous, cause we were never even considered.
“How are you feeling?” Bella whispers softly, gently pressing her hand against my head.
I moaned, her cold hands a welcome relief to the hotness running through my body.
My dad and mum stood at the door of my bedroom, worrying clouding their faces as they watched me.
“Emily…,” I moaned out, before throwing up whatever was still left in my stomach.
My mum shared a look with my dad, the both of them leaving my room to no doubt discuss about me again.
“Is Emily being mated to Stefan, the cause of your sickness?” Bella asked.
“I don’t know,” I mumbled out, “but Ronan seems to think so.”
“How can that be…,” Bella whispered out, mirroring my own confusion. “I mean I thought it only happened if your wolf rejected you, but Emily didn’t.”
I didn’t say anything, just turned my body slightly, shivering at the sudden cold running through my body.
We stayed like that for a while, before Bella whispered out something. I couldn’t make out what it was, my mind shutting off as I drifted off to sleep.
When I came through later, my mum was sitting on the chair close to me, pressing a cool cloth on my head.
“What’s going on?” I whispered out.
“We don’t know,” my mom says quietly, trying to hold back her sob. “The pack doctor doesn’t know what’s wrong, but your dad is out, trying to see if he could find anything that would help us understand what’s going on.”
“Emily….,”
“No,” my mum says sharply, cutting me off. “Your sister told me that you think Emily not mating to you is what is causing this. It’s not Roman, please stop this.”
I gritted my teeth, turning my head to the side to hide the lone tear sliding from my eyes.
My mum sighed out loudly, taking the clothes away from my head, before leaving.
I breathed out sharply, forcing my body up. I wasn’t going to keep laying there in my sweat, feeling sorry for myself.
I walked slowly to my bathroom, peeling my sweaty smelling clothes away from my body, before entering the shower.
The cold water cascading down my body was a welcome relief.
I don’t know why, but I started crying. I had tried to be strong, ignore Emily and Stefan as they kissed and acted like a happy couple in front of me.
But now, in this shower I could allow myself to cry out all the pain bubbling up inside me.
I don’t know how long I stood under that water or how long I cried, but when my teeth finally started clattering from how cold I was, I finally left the bathroom.
I put on a simple white tee, with one of my old joggers. After that, I changed my bedsheets, putting fresh ones, before opening up my bedroom window to let in cool, fresh air.
By the time I was done with all of these, I slumped down tiredly on my bed, covering myself with my duvet.
I must have dozed off again, because the next time I woke, I couldn't believe the sight in front of me.
Emily was sitting on my bed, her hands running through my hair softly.
I blinked up at her, confused but also wishing this wasn’t a dream.
“Emily…..,” I whispered out.
“Hey..,” she says, a soft smile on her face. “How are you feeling?”
“Are you really here?” I asked stupidly, raising my hands to cup her face.
It was electrifying, just my fingers brushing down her face, towards her neck was enough to send a spark of energy through my body.
“Roman..,” she moaned out breathlessly, snapping me from the daze I had been in.
I remove my hands immediately from her body, coughing awkwardly to hide the blush spreading all over me.
What the hell was I thinking, matter of fact, why was she here?
“What are you doing here?” I asked her, hardening my face.
“I heard you were seriously sick, and I just wanted to see you.” She says, softly, blushing slightly.
Her scent was all over my room, I was going crazy. I bit my lips hard, heat pooling through my body.
Emily was in my bed, granted she was just sitting on it, but still here, alone with me.
Everything could go wrong, especially since Ronan was panting widely in my head.
“No..,” I muttered, my frustration growing with how hard it was to keep telling myself and Ronan that word.
“Are you ok Roman?” Emily whispers out, leaning down so she was on equal eye level with me, her soft hair framing her face.
I clenched my hands tightly, restricting the urge to run my hands through her hair.
Why, why would Bella do this to me?
“Yes..,” I mumbled out, my voice coming out a bit husky.
I don’t know why I did it, but tomorrow I will blame it on my sickness.
I wrapped my hands around Emily’s waist, drawing her closer to me. We were laying on my bed now, like we used to.
Her hands were lightly on my chest, while my neck was buried on her neck, her hair tickling my face.
I breathed out deeply as Emily’s hands ran through my hair, my wolf whined loudly, almost purring at the feeling.
This was wrong, and if anyone should see us now, I already knew how disappointed they would be, yet I pulled her closer.
“Mate…, mate. We should mate her,” Ronan yelled out in my head. “Look, she knows it too deep down. Why else would she be here, on your bed, cuddling you intimately.”
I pushed away from Emily abruptly, gripping my hair tightly.
“Emily.., you need to leave,” I say sharply.
“What?” Emily whispers out, sitting upright. “What’s wrong? Did I do something wrong? Ever since you came back, you are different. You barely look at me, or talk to me. You don’t know how worried I have been, and…”
She covers her mouth, blinking rapidly as tears flow down her face freely.
Fuck, this was my fault. I was caught up in my own feelings. I didn't realize Emily could not feel the mate bond, and to her, it was like I just cut off our friendship.
“I waited for you…” she says quietly. “You said you had something to tell me, and I waited for you for God knows how long, only to find out the next day you left, off to some academy without saying anything to me.”
“I am so sorry.” I whispered out, gently cleaning her tears. “I had to leave, I can't say why, but I had to leave.”
Emily nodded her head, before hugging me.
I hugged her back, my hands rubbing down her back.
My door slammed open, my mum standing at my door, the bucket of water in her hands falling to the floor.
I pulled away from Emily immediately, opening my mouth, before closing it back.
“What is going on here?” my mum asked sharply.
“Umm.., I came to see Roman,” Emily says softly.
My mum runs her hand through her hair frustratedly.
“I am sorry Emily,” I told her quietly. “But I think you should leave.”
“Yeah,” Emily agreed wholeheartedly, blushing furiously.
She glanced at me briefly, before leaving.
“What the hell was that?” my mother screamed out immediately, her eyes blazing in fury.
“I…, I don’t know.” I mumbled out.
“We need to talk.” My dad’s cold voice rang out, his sharp cold gaze staring intently at me.
