Chapter 71 CHAPTER SEVENTY ONE
ROMAN POV
“What did you do to my son, tell me..,” Richies father roared out, his hands tightening around my neck.
I struggled to breathe, my eyes wide as I tried to pry his hands away from my neck.
“That’s enough,” my dad, said calmly but firm. He dragged Richies dad away from me, before helping me stand up.
Coughing, I rub my hands against my aching neck, gritting my teeth hard as I tried to control the anger whirling through me.
I may not have shot Richie, but it was equally my fault he was in this predicament.
“I am so sorry sir, but I didn’t know it was going to happen like this.” I chocked out, holding back my tears.
“What exactly happened?” My father asked, sitting back down, after making sure Richies father wasn’t going to attack me again.
“We had noticed suspicious behavior from one of the students that had come for the tournament. So we decided to trail his movement. Initially, I thought he was trying to uphand me at the tournament, but when we got there, it was something else.”
“When you say suspicions movement, what do you mean?” our school head asked, cutting me off.
“Umm..,” i faltered, straching my head as I avoided looking at my dad. One look, and the man would know I was lying.
“It was just his actions during parties, and since I would be competing against him in the tournament, I paid extra attention to him.”
“I saw him sneaking out with a guy I have never seen in this school, and one time, I overheard his conversation, it sounded suspicious.”
“So you decided to take matters into your own hands by trailing him and also involving my son?” Richies dad gritted out, his sharp glare making me shiver.
“I wasn’t sure yet, and like I said, I honestly thought he was trying to cheat his way through the tournament. I had no idea it was going to come to this.”
“This boy, what is his name?” Our school head asked me, looking through a journal.
“Umm.., Brandon, I don’t really know his last name, but he was one of the students that came for the tournament.”
I clenched my hands together, sneaking a glance at my dad who was watching the video of me dropping Richie off.
As the beta of one of the strongest packs, I knew his instinct was on, and right now, he was trying to piece everything together.
“So what happened next?” He asked, his sharp eyes now focused on me.
“Well, that night, I was coming back from my nightly run, when I noticed Brandon and another guy i don’t know, clearly going towards the direction of that abandoned building at the east end.”
“I ignored it at first, but when I got to my room, I just had these urge to know what was going on.”
“I told Richie about it, and together, we tracked Brandon to where he and his gang was.”
“Gang? How many were they?” Our school head asked, more alarmed now.
“Hum.., about five, including Brandon.” I brought out my phone, thanking the moon goddess I had decided to video Brandon bashing that man head in.
I know the man won’t be there anymore, but I could put that on Brandon.
I passed the phone to my dad, watching his face as he played the gory video.
As usual, no emotion, his expression was indifferent, a perfect mask.
He passed the phone to our school head, who watched the video in shock, his eyes almost popping out.
“What is it?” Richies father snapped out, impatiently snatching the phone out of his hands.
“As you can see, after making this video, me and Richie tried to sneak out, quickly realizing we had stumbled on something more sinister than we had thought.”
“Unfortunately for us, we were caught and then beaten and tortured before finally left for dead.”
“It is by some miracle today unknown wolves saved us. Unfortunately the bullet hit Richie as we tried to escape.”
There was no need to lie about being saved. The video of that wolf, tho blurry was still obvious and I knew my father would figure out someone else was involved.
“I tried my best to bring him to the pack doctors as fast as I could.” I whispered out, letting a lone tear drop.
“The wolves that saved you, do you know who they were?” Our school head asked me.
“No sir I don’t,” I told him.
“It’s ok, you did the best you could. Now wait outside, i will call you shortly,” my father told me.
“I am sorry Sir for involving Richi,” I say to Richies dad, before excusing myself.
I let out a loud sigh as I came outside, slumping down on one of the chair in front of the door.
I don’t know why i didn’t just tell them everything. I didn’t need to be protecting Mr Castor after he abandoned me.
It was all his fault, and I swear he better pray I never set my eyes on him again.
I don’t know how long I stayed there, but soon my father stood in front of me.
“Let’s go,” he mutters out, not even waiting, before marching outside.
“Dad.., hold on, what’s going on?” I asked, walking faster to march his long determined steps.
“We are leaving, is what.” he replied calmly.
I paused, “what?” I screeched out. “I can’t just leave, I am not ready to go back to the pack, and what about Richie? I can’t just leave him.”
“It’s been two years Roman. You better start preparing yourself as you pack your belongings. I shouldn’t have let you run away, instead of facing your problems like a man.”
“And now, look at the mess you in. When we get back to the pack, you better tell me and your mother the truth of what really happened.”
“Dad, I…”
His sharp glare cut me off. “Where is your dorm?” he asked me.
I didn’t say anything again, just lead the way. Fuck, Emily, I wasn’t ready, I don’t even have enough information yet, and being close to her, the mate bond.
“Dad,” I whisper softly, throwing my stuffs into my box,
He turned towards me, his cold gaze softening a bit at whatever expression I had on my face.
“Emily, she is my mate. I don’t know how, or why she can’t feel the mate bond with me, but she is my mate.”
I don’t know, but I really needed him to know that fact.
“Look son, I am not going to lie, I don’t fully understand how mating works, and I am not saying i don’t believe you. I mean you have been telling everyone about Emily being your mate from a very young age, but she is mated to Stefan now, and you are going to have to deal with it like a man, until we find out more about what’s going on.”
“Understood?” he asked me.
“Yes sir,” I say, nodding my head at him.
My dad didn’t say anything, just stared at me, his eyes roaming all over my injured face.
After packing, we stuffed my stuffs into my dads car, before driving off.
There was no one to say goodbye to, and my only friend for the past two years was currently fighting for his life.
I don’t know if i would ever see Richie again, but I
Sincerely hoped he survived.
Soft music was playing from the stereo. I sighed, leaning comfortably against the car seat.
I closed my eyes, slowly succumbing to my tired aching body.
I needed all the rest I could get, cause very soon, I was going to be back in the pack I had run away from.
