Chapter 37 CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT
EMILY’S POV
Emily arranged every tool they had used yesterday. She checked her watch, hoping that Sheila was ok. It was unusual for her to come in so late, especially since she had a lot of patients waiting for her.
She removed her phone from her pocket, smiling at the morning message Roman had sent. It was just a simple message, asking her to have a good day, and reminding her of the outing they had planned. Yet it brought a bright smile to her face.
Lately she had been considering giving Roman a chance. He had told her he loved her, and why she wasn’t sure if she loved him deeply yet, she knew she really liked him.
She glanced up as Sheila entered the room, a large sun glass covering her face as she slumped down on her office chair.
Emily quickly sent a message back to Roman, pocketing her phone before standing in front of Emily.
“What’s wrong with you?” she asked, taking in how tired Sheila looked.
Sheila removed her glasses, rubbing her eye. “Hangover,” she whispered, before clearing her throat.
Sheila!! Emily drawled out, you knew today was going to be hectic, “why would you do this to yourself?”
“Some of my old friends came around, and one thing led to another.”
Emily shakes her head, before going back to what she was doing.
After a while, Sheila started attending to patients while Emily helped wherever she could.
They worked tirelessly, occasionally stopping to eat something, before continuing.
At about six o clock, Sheila called it a day, complaining about how tired she was.
Emily rushed home, planning to sleep for a lengthy period before Roman would be done with work. He had just recently completed his training, and was working as one of the pack’s warriors.
Immediately Emily got home, she didn’t even bother going to her room. She laid down on one of the couches, before drifting off.
She smiled up at a woman that looked exactly like Camille, listening attentively as she read one of her favorite stories to her. Emily jolted, as the car they were riding came to a stop. Camille closed the book, asking the driver what the problem was.
I don’t know mam let me check he says, stopping the car, before coming down from it.
They waited, Camille clutching Emily’s hands in hers. Suddenly, their car pressed down as something heavy climbed on it.
Let me check what it is Camille says, but Emily clutched her hands, refusing to let go as fear clawed its way through her chest.
It’s ok Snow, Camille says, smiling softly at her. Don’t be afraid, I just need to check if everything is ok.
Don’t go mummy Emily says, tears pouring from her eyes. In that same second, our driver rushes into the car, frantically trying to start it.
Emily screams, as whatever it was clawed the roof of their car. The driver tried starting the car while Camille urged him to be fast, holding me to her chest.
A large wolf smashed through the side window, breaking the glass as we all screamed. With its sharp teeth, it drags the driver out the window.
Emily screams in fear, Camille dragging them out of the car, as they run into the nearby forest.
They ran through the forest, thorns tearing into their skin, as three huge wolves chased them. From nowhere, another two more wolves emerged from their front, blocking their part.
Camille dragged Emily behind her back, shielding her as five huge wolves surrounded them.
Together they attacked, not giving Camille any time to fight back as they attacked strategically from all sides.
Run!! Camille shouted, screaming as one of the wolves clawed into her legs. She screams again as another one clawed at her side. With a loud howl, Camille half morphed, her hands extended out, sharp claws tearing into the wolf in front of her.
She tore open its belly, before sinking her sharp canine into its neck, tearing the head of the wolf off its neck.
Emily watched with wide eyes in horror. Screaming as a large wolf tackles her to the floor. She screamed as the wolf tore into her hands, pain exploding through her body as she screamed for Camille.
Camille jumped on the wolf that had bit her, tearing into the wolf viciously.
Her sweet loving mother was gone, in its place was a vicious animal willing to do anything to protect its pub.
Run!!!she growled out at Emily, before facing the two wolves attacking her.
Emily stood up, her small legs dashing through the forest as she ran with all her might.
Another wolf tackles her again, clawing at her back. Emily growled loudly, shaking in both pain and fury as she blacked out, her wolf taking over. She tore into the wolf viciously, leaving only bloodied scattered body parts when she was done.
She turned her head at the sound of Camille’s howl, running back towards her. Together they fought as more wolves appeared, their bodies badly bruised, their strength being fueled by adrenaline.
She turned her head as gun shot rang out, gasping as Camille took the blunt force of the bullet. She screamed, bending down towards Camille as she writhed on the ground.
Silver bullet, someone had shot her with a silver bullet. Emily glanced around, searching for who was shooting.
Snow!!! Camille gasped out, run!!!! She screamed, as more gun shots rang through the forest. Emily glanced at her once more, tears pouring down her face as she ran through the forest, dodging the bullet as best as she could.
Emily jotted awake, tears flowing from her eyes. She glanced up, No time to say anything as Roman hugged her tightly.
Oh my Gosh he says, “what was that?” He shifted back from her, and Emily could clearly see his face. She gasped at the claw mark running down his face, hands and neck. Blood was soaking his shirt, and all he cared about was her.
She ran to the store room, bringing out the first aid box, before running back to him.
Oh my Gosh Roman, “what happened” she says, blinking against the rapid tears falling from her eyes. “She knew she did this, but how?”
Her hands shook slightly, as she tried to open the first aid box.
Roman gently took her hands in his, calm down he says gently, hugging her. “It’s going to be ok,” he says, patting her back softly.
Emily breathes out shakily, before turning to face him. She took his face in her hands, examining his injuries. Due to how light the claw marks were on his face, and Roman’s fast healing, almost all the wounds on his face were healed, the ones on his hands were a bit deeper, and would take a few days.
Emily made sure she cleaned everything properly, treating him with care, before wrapping the ones she could.
After she was done, she sat quietly, deep in thought why Roman, gave her time to recollect herself.
I dreamt of that day, Emily begins quietly. I don’t know if it was just a dream, or a buried memory, but I saw Camille. I watched us get attacked, watched as we both fought for our life’s. And you were right Roman, that was a very planned attack. Someone else was there, shooting at us with a silver bullet.
“Silver bullet?” Roman asked, sitting closer to her. That’s a key piece of evidence.
I was meaning to tell you, but I have been talking with Alpha Castor, and we think Camille might still be alive.
Emily snapped her head towards him, “what?”
“You didn’t see her die, correct?”Emily shook her head. She took a bullet, meant for me. And then told me to run, but you are right, she wasn’t dead when I left her.
Roman nodded his head. It’s strange, that’s what led to my suspicion.
“What is?” Emily asked him.
Alpha Castor mentioned their bodies were burnt. Two things struck me as odd with that.
One, If they had really burnt her body then burnt marks would have been around where it happened, and the smell would still be in the air.
Two, there were no burnt marks, which is not possible if they were killed and burnt at the site where the fight happened. Which made me believe that someone else had reported back to whoever orchestrated Camille’s death.
They had decided to burn two bodies, and then take them back to that site, knowing that Alpha Castor would find them and assume they were his family.
I need a drink Emily mutters, all these are just too much for me.
We could still stroll around, nothing fancy, maybe the local bar.
Emily nodded, glad to leave the house. She felt suffocated, and just needed fresh air.
They dressed up, before strolling to the local bar. Emily knew they still had so much to discuss, and she couldn’t keep running away. Eventually, she would have to face her past.
They entered the bar, Roman, ordering something light for her due to her pregnancy, while he ordered a glass of vodka for himself.
Emily sighed, closing her eyes as the soft music playing relaxed her a little.
“If it isn’t my twin,” Emily groaned, opening her eyes as she took in the sight of Kimberly.
“What do you want?” Roman grumbled out rudely.
“To invite you of course,” she says, smiling widely.
“A party?” Emily scoffs, “No thank you.”
Kimberly pouted, before glancing at her.
“You should come,” you are no longer the only pregnant lady in town.
Emily glanced down at Kimberly stomach, her eyebrows raised high.
“Yes,” Kimberly says grinning, "I am pregnant.”
