Chapter 35 CHAPTER THIRTY SIX
EMILY’S POV
Emily sat stunned, her heart beating fast as she tried to comprehend what Alpha Castor meant.
“Are you sure that was your wife and child?” Roman questioned him. I see no reason why rogue wolves would go as far as burning them. It simply means that someone wanted you to believe they were dead, and I believe they were the same person that brought those bodies back to where they were attacked.
If you didn’t see them the first time you checked, it means they were never there. He stood up pacing, his hands running through his hair as Emily's eyes followed his movements.
From my guess, someone set them up, someone who knew the road they would be taking, how many guards. What the person didn’t count on was Snow. Camille probably didn’t tell them the cure was for her daughter, they probably thought it was for Camille.
Alpha Castor slumped down on his chair, the realization that he had probably been fooled, running through his mind.
They all turned their heads as sharp knocks, rasp on the door. Without waiting for an answer, the door opens.
Luna Serena stood there, alarmed at the scenario in front of her. “Is everything alright?” She asked aloud, closing the door behind her.
Roman frowned at her, before sitting down on his chair.
Oh, Serena, “what are you doing here?” Alpha Castor asked, masking his expression.
“We were supposed to go out with Kimberly and Stefan, remember?” she says, chuckling awkwardly.
Alpha Castor frowns, looking at her strangely. Luna Serena turns towards me, her eyes glancing briefly to the paper and picture on the table, before glancing back at me.
Quickly, Emily gathers everything, shuffling them into her purse, before standing up. I am sorry to have taken your time, I hope we can continue our discussion another day. She smiled towards Luna Serena who was staring at her with a strange look in her eyes, before leaving the room, Roman right behind her.
Emily breathed out in relief immediately she stepped out from Alpha Castor's office, a strange feeling thrumming through her body.
“Are you ok?” I am sure all these were not really what you expected.
Emily turned towards Roman, grateful for him being here with her. "I am fine she tells him," smiling wide.
Roman grimaced at how fake her smile was, he knew she wasn’t ok, but honestly he didn’t expect her to be. What they had just found out, brought out more questions, instead of solving them. He sighed, his hands in his pockets as he walked beside Emily.
Emily turned towards Roman, her eyes wide and excited. Today had been a complete let down, with different cans of emotions to unpack. She would not let something like her past drag her down. For now, she needed to focus on the now.
Baby shopping, she tells him happily. Now’s the perfect opportunity. We could get the stuff we have been delaying for a while now, I mean, except you have somewhere else to be.
Roman smiled at her, before agreeing. They walked toward the shop Sheila had recommended to them, pausing in front of it, before walking inside.
Emily gasped in awe, every shelves, were stocked high with different baby things. She walked around, picking up a few essentials. She watched Roman as he stood in front of rows of different baby crips, examining each of them.
Emily walked towards him, clutching the basket filled with a few things she had picked out. “Which one do you want?”she asked him, startling him from whatever he had been thinking about. He smiled at her, taking the basket from her, before pointing to a double bed.
I figured since we are expecting twins, it’s only right that we take the double bed, rather than two separate beds.
Emily nodded her head, agreeing with him. They bought other things they needed, before going home.
Emily helped Roman carry a few things inside while he did the rest. She thanked Genevieve, who had helped with a ride back home, before closing the door.
Emily groaned, leaning against the close door as she breathed out in exhaustion.
Go freshen up, let me quickly prepare something simple for you.
She glanced up at Roman, nodding her head, before walking past him to her room.
Once Emily was done with showering, she slumped on her bed, totally drained. A soft knock sounded on her door, making Emily pop her head up. It’s open she called out, refusing to stand up from the comfortable position she was laying in.
Roman walked in, a tray of food in his hands. He set the tray gently on the bed, before sitting down. groggily, Emily stood up, resting her back against her bed post, the tray of food in her laps.
She glanced up, as Roman took her legs, putting them on his laps, before slowly massaging them.
“Thank you Roman,” Emily murmurs.
Roman smiles, “thank you too,” he says.
I am scared Emily whispered, "what if I am not really Alpha Castor daughter, “what if I am?”
“What then?” she asked.
"It’s just I have given up on ever finding my family, and now everything is coming at me all at once. It’s overwhelming."
"I understand how you feel, we are going to tackle one thing at a time. If Camille was really your mother, then we have to find a way to prove it."
"We need to be discreet," Roman told her, "I have reasons to believe that whoever had set Camille up was from this pack. If they find out about you, they won’t hesitate to come after you."
"I wish I could at least remember my childhood. Emily says with a sigh," I feel like the answers are in my head, but deeply buried."
Roman left her foot, sliding behind her, his back against the bed post, while her back against his chest.
It’s going to be ok he told her, I am going to make sure I get to the bottom of all these. “Have you heard from your wolf?” he asked her.
Emily groaned, making Roman chuckle. "Chaira comes and goes as she likes, I don’t think we have had a proper discussion. And I still don’t feel connected to her, it’s just like a distant part of me." Emily sighed, not knowing how to explain.
"It’s ok," Roman told her softly. "You guys' connection was severely broken, it’s going to take some time."
Emily smiled sincerely for the first time today, leaning back comfortably against him.
“I love you Emily,” Roman whispers, “I always will.”
