Chapter 32 CHAPTER THIRTY THREE
ROMAN'S POV
It’s been three years since Emily started living with them, and Roman felt their bond shimmering. On his end, he could feel the bond clearly, but something was blocking Emily from feeling hers.
His dad had made sure he didn’t spend anytime with her, his schedule always filled up. If he was not in school where he didn’t share any classes with Emily, then he was training and reading about his duties as the Beta of a pack.
Before he got home late at night, Roman was out like a light. The next day, he continued the same pattern.
At first, Emily would sneak into his room at night, sleeping on his bed, her presence giving him comfort from an already stressful day.
But after his mum had caught her one morning when they both overslept, his parents had called a meeting, threatening to banish her if they caught them together again.
Roman didn’t know why they were being harsh on her, they slept together all the time, what was different now?
The only times he saw Emily officially, was the few days where his father made it mandatory to eat at home, or on special occasions like their birthdays.
Roman was exhausted, and was this close to exploding.
He sighed as he walked into their school, Stefan by his left side, while Owen was on his right. He glanced through his phone, nodding his head as Stefan laid out the plans he had come up with.
Roman!! Roman, “are you even listening man?”Stefan asked.
“Yea sure I am," he told Stefan, pocketing his phone.
He paused as he saw Emily, leaning on her locker, a younger boy beside her as they laughed and discussed. Roman clenched his hands, anger and frustration clawing at him.
He walked past her, his eyes briefly meeting hers, as she smiled at him, her lovely smile melting his heart.
Emily was younger, while Roman was older therefore they didn’t share any class together. Rare instances like this was when he saw her, or at the cafeteria but even then the difference between them was obvious.
Today he was trying out for the football team, both Stefan and Owen were trying out too. He had enough on his plate already, but apparently his father didn’t think so.
He had suggested he joined the football team, stating it was a good way to improve his stamina.
Classes went on smoothly, Roman sleeping through most of them.
Roman sighed, as he glanced at where Emily was seated with Bella and her friends. He didn’t know what happened, but Bella had taken a sudden likeness to Emily, even going as far as sitting with her in the cafeteria. A sacred place for Bella, according to her, who you sit with in the school cafeteria, determines your social life.
Roman had looked at her disbelieving, but today, he could see the truth in that statement.
He was on the popular side, being friends with the Alpha son and also the next Beta. Thus he sat at the popular table, with wannabe guys and girls. He turned, watching as Stefan kissed the new girl in his arms, shaking his head.
Every two weeks, Stefan was with a new girl. For a 16 year old boy, he got around,
Hey Roman, Clara said, sitting on his laps. Roman groaned, he didn’t know how many times he would tell Clara he wasn’t interested. He had even gone as far as telling her he had someone else in mind, yet she didn’t give up.
Everyone at the table cheered, howling at him. He blushed in embarrassment, their whistles and jestering, drawing the attention of others to their table.
Roman glanced at Emily, who was already looking at him. She shakes her head, standing up, before leaving the cafeteria.
Quickly, he pushed Clara from his laps, before running after Emily.
By the time he came outside, Emily was nowhere to be found. “Good luck explaining this one,” Bella says, patting him on his shoulders. She looked at him pitifully, before leaving with her friends.
Unknown to their parents, Roman and Emily still saw occasionally. Bella being their middle man. Apart from Bella, Roman hadn’t told anyone else that Emily was his mate. He was sure of it, and couldn’t wait till his 18th birthday to finally claim her as his.
Because he could not totally stay away from Emily, he would take some time out from training, lying to Stefan he was going to hook up with his mystery girlfriend. Stefan would cover for him, while Bella would set up the location.
It was stupid, or even reckless, but those moments were the only thing giving him joy and happiness.
They would meet up, discussing any new thing happening in their life. Talked and laughed, occasionally holding hands. Sometimes, he wondered if suppressing Emily wolf was affecting her from feeling the mate bond.
The signs were there, those moments where she would gaze at him for a while, or like now, when she is angry at seeing him with someone else but can’t explain why.
Roman had vowed to himself that one day, he would find a way to bring back her wolf.
He followed her scent, turning towards a sharp corner where Emily was, pressed to the wall. The guy he had seen her with, holding her hands as he shouted angrily.
Roman couldn’t hear what he whispered to her, but the next thing he knew, Emily was on top of the guy punching him with all her might. She growled at him, scratching at his face. Quickly, Roman ran towards her, pulling her away from the screaming guy.
What is wrong with you he yelled at her, looking around, hoping no one saw her.
He dragged her away from there, taking her to his car, before driving out of the school.
“Let me out, Roman," she growled, clutching her chest.
“What is it?” he asked, as she thrashed around.
“It hurts," Emily screamed, clutching her head, finally she stilled, breathing heavily as she tried to calm herself.
Roman gasped as she opened her eyes. Her beautiful brown eyes were now dark red, her hands extended into sharp claws as she digs into his car seat.
Emily! “What’s going on?” Roman asked, stopping his car, before reaching out for her.
Emily burst out laughing, before hugging him tightly.
What is going on, Roman thought confused.
She moved back, extending her claws out. Hello!! Roman, “my name is Chaira, Emily’s wolf.”
