Chapter 20 CHAPTER TWENTY
ROMAN’S POV
Rogue’s, how did they enter the pack borders was the first thing Roman thought, watching as Stefan tries to control the situation. The brave Alpha’s and Beta in the cafeteria changed into their wolves as they faced off with the Rogue wolves.
Just then the pack alarm sounded throughout. Roman’s dad came into the school cafeteria with four other guards talking over the fight, while Stefan and Roman tried to usher the student to safety.
How could they have breached our security Stefan asked aloud, confused.
I don’t know, Roman said as he jumped down from the window most of them had escaped from. He landed on the ground awkwardly, his injured leg taking most of the force. Roman gritted his teeth from the sharp pain, before using Stefan’s outstretched hands to stand up.
In cases like this, each and every of the children in the pack are to be escorted safely to the emergency bunker.
Stefan led the students there, Roman trailing beside him. He glanced around anxiously, sharp eyes on the look out.
I wonder how many of them are here, Roman mutters quietly to Stefan. Trying not to cause more panic between the children.
They were children themselves, but he and Stefan had been trained intensely for situations like this. One day as the next Alpha and Beta, they would lead this pack.
After making sure each and everyone was escorted to the safe house, Stefan discussed with some of the guards, wanting to know the general situation while Roman stood by.
They spent almost the whole day in the safe house, anxious and worried about the situation outside.” Are you ok?” his mum asked him, handing him a plate of food.
“I am fine, he said, glancing around.” Every woman and man who couldn’t fight was here, children, huddled together, while teenagers stood around. He could see his sister discussing with her friends, briefly glancing towards his direction.
“Do you think dad would be ok?” He asked his mom, worried for his safety.
“Don’t worry dear, your father is stronger than he looks," she says, bending down to observe his already swollen legs.
“I told you to take it easy on your leg," she says, standing up.” His mum left him for a while, coming back with a box of first aid. She unwrapped his old bandage, cleaned out his wound before reapplying a new bandage to his legs.
He glanced up at the exact time, Alpha Regan and his father walked into the safe house.
Everyone stands up immediately, their attention on Alpha Regan as he stands, glancing at everyone.
How is the situation outside? someone asked from the crowd.
We had a minor breach, Alpha Regan spoke. It has all been taken care of and I assure you that tighter security will be put in place so something like this doesn’t happen again. For now, I would like everyone to go home and get some rest.
The crowd began dispersing one after another, his mum helping him as he limped gently to the door.
““Are you ok?”” his dad asked him, glancing down at his legs.
“I am fine, " dad Roman replied.” Where the Rogues here for Emily he asked, piecing together the timing and coincidence of everything.
We will discuss it later. His dad said, Why don’t you follow your mum ok, have your shower and rest.
He nodded, before following his mum home. After showering, Roman slept off the exhausting events of the day, catching up with him.
The next day, school was canceled. As expected, while Roman lazed around the house, bored and exhausted.
“Can I go see Emily?” Roman asked his mum.
She sighed, turning towards him. Emily is going through treatment right now dear, maybe when she is better.
Roman sighed, ok, can I go watch Stefan training, I promise I won’t participate, I am just really bored and want to step out.
His mum hesitated, mum!!! Please Roman whined, looking at her pleadingly.
Fine, she relented. But no participation, ok, you need to allow your leg to heal.
Sure, Roman said, excited. She dropped him at Stefan’s house, warning him to be careful of his leg before driving off.
Stefan was waiting outside for him already. Hey bro he said, as they shaked each other, before they entered inside his house.
They played a few games, discussing everything and nothing at the same time. “ How about Emily?” Stefan asked, pausing the game.
“Miss Falcon took her, Roman grumbled out, resting his back comfortably against the bed.”
““Is she really cursed?””Stefan asked, his eyebrows pinched together as he leaned towards him.
“Cursed?” Roman asked aloud, confused. Why will you say something like that?
““Have you not heard?”” Everyone is talking about it. Bella told her friends about how she changed into a monster, and you know how news spreads around.
What!!! Roman fumed, what is wrong with Bella he thought.
Roman stood up suddenly. ““Can we sneak into the pack infirmary?””He asked Stefan, pacing around, the urge to see how Emily was faring strong.
Stefan grinned wide, always down for adventure and misfits.
They both walked towards the infirmary, Roman thinking about that night. Sure the sight of Emily that night had been scary and confusing, but to say she was cursed was just crazy.
He walked faster, his heart beating as an uncomfortable itch pinched his skin.
“Are you sure she is at the pack’s infirmary, and not Miss Falcon house," Stefan asked.
Roman paused, the idea running through his mind.
““I don’t know, he says, but let’s check both to be sure.””
They checked the whole infirmary, Emily and Miss Falcon nowhere to be found.
Eventually, they sneaked their way to Miss Falcon house. Roman looked through the open window, the sight of the kitchen in full view.
“Nobody’s here," He whispered to Stefan, looking around.
““How are we going to enter inside?”” Stefan whispered back.
Tentatively, they crawled to the back door, Roman tried the door, surprised to see it was open. They both exchanged glances, before sneaking into the house.
They searched everywhere in the house, Miss Falcon and Emily nowhere to be found. Roman slumped down on her couch, rubbing his forehead.
“Do you think they found her family?” He asked Stefan.
“I don’t know, my dad doesn’t tell me stuff.””But I could sneak into his office, see if I can find anything.
They both pecked up at the sound of a door opening, glancing at each other before hiding behind the couch.
They watched as Miss Falcon came out of a hidden door, an unfamiliar man behind her.
What do we do now? Miss Falcon said worriedly to the man. I didn’t expect she would survive it, she continued, glancing at the man.
Both Roman and Stefan glanced at themselves. Who else knows about her? the unknown man queried.
No one, Miss Falcon replied, glancing about nervously, her green eyes meeting that of Roman’s. She widened her eyes, surprised to see him hiding behind her couch, before glancing away, diverting the unknown man’s attention.
“Are you sure?” the man asked, stepping slowly behind a frightened Miss Falcon.
“Yes, she whispered out shakily.”
Without warning, he slams her head over the kitchen counter.
Roman gasped, shocked at the turn of events. He moved to go help her but Stefan dragged him back, hiding their bodies deeper as they watched the man repeatedly slam her head over the counter.
He dropped her on the floor, her head bleeding badly. Please I won’t tell anyone she cried out, crawling on the floor sluggishly.
I know, the man replied, before stabbing her with a thick silver knife.
He stabbed her repeatedly, holding her mouth to prevent her from screaming. While we watched, unable to do anything.
After making sure she was no longer responsive, he dropped the knife, washing his bloodied hands, calmly stepping over her body, before walking out the back door.
Immediately he was gone, Roman rushed towards her, checking her pulse.
She is dead, he muttered, crumpling to the blood soaked floor in shock.
