Chapter 95 Kiss
ISABEL'S POV
There was no way that I would have mistaken the sound of Ryan's car. Not in this world, not in the next. Not when I had been waiting for most of my adolescent years for that sound. I carried that hope up to my adult years, and the hope still hadn't died.
The way I rushed towards the window was out of this world. Just as I thought, it was Ryan. But as I saw him hurry to the passengers side to open the door for whoever was there, a part of me wished that I didn't even do that.
Anna walked out, giving him a seductive look. It was so clear that I could see it one storey high. The bitch. But that wasn't all. I watched her as she leaned in for a kiss.
My hands were balled into fists as I watched their lips move in sync. Ryan's arm was wrapped around her waist, like he was trying to pull her closer.
I was already considering throwing her my bedside lamp. But I didn't want to hurt Ryan in the process.
I might have claimed to have another boyfriend, but maybe that lie was going to catch up with me anytime soon.
They looked so perfect together, I could feel the tension between them from where I was standing. She didn't even think about the fact that he was about to become mine. What if he was telling her about me? And the things I had done to win him over.
The way I was feeling was nothing less than someone twisting my insides with a knife.
“What are you doing?” I heard someone ask, and I quickly turned around to look at my mom. I quickly wiped the tears of frustration that I didn't know I was shedding.
“I told you to always knock when you walk in, mom,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“I'm your mother, Isabel. We've been through this discussion before. I don't want you hurting yourself.” The same daughter that she didn't care about before making a decision?
Before I could even blink, she was at the window, looking at Ryan, where he was leaning in for another kiss. Even deeper than the first one. I flinched.
“Is that…” my mom asked, putting her hands over her mouth. A small part of me was already rejoicing. She was going to scream at Anna. She was finally going to stand up for me.
“Yes, it is.” Even when she always knew that Ryan was mine.
Her lips quickly spread from confusion to happiness. “I never knew that things would work out that fast between the both of them.”
My nails dug into my palm even harder. Why did I think for a second that she was going to change? That things were going to be better.
I turned to face her again. “Do you need something?” I asked, and she nodded, finally pulling her eyes away from Anna and my Ryan.
“You know that your father and I anniversary is coming up. As usual, you will be the one planning the event. I figured you could use the break since things are… quite tense between you and Anna.”
I frowned in mock confusion. “Anna hasn't told you? Things are perfectly fine between the both of us.”
She blinked. “Are you serious?”
“I figured that there was no use in holding a grudge against her. She is your biological daughter. I wasted my years for nothing. And besides, she's handling the company quite well.”
If she noticed the pain in my voice, she said nothing about it.
“Fine,” she said, shrugging. “I'm glad the both of you have managed to work things out. I'm more than proud of you, Isabel.”
I gave her a stiff smile, as she walked out of the room. Just a few seconds after she left, Daniel walked in.
For fuck's sake, couldn't they even give me a few minutes to feel any emotion?
“Are the members of this family carrying the curse of not being able to knock?” I groaned.
He shrugged. “You've never asked me to knock before.”
“When you were my best friend,” I wanted to say, but I quickly bit the words back. I couldn't stop looking at Daniel like some kind of backstabber. After he chose Anna over me, and is still trying to look for the person that took the necklace. I have spent my days trying not to think about what would happen if my parents found out that it was me.
Hurt flashed in his eyes a bit, but I couldn't care less. “What do you want?” I asked.
“Did you see Anna and Ryan?” He asked, and I rolled my eyes as I collapsed on the bed. I didn't need another person reminding me of how perfect they looked as they kissed. It would have been more perfect if it was me and him.
“I did,” I answered, monotone.
“I told her that there was a different kind of connection between the both of them.”
I swallowed hard. “You didn't feel that kind of connection between me and Ryan?”
He shrugged, shaking his head. “I didn't. It was almost one sided.” He suddenly grinned. “It doesn't matter now. You have a new boyfriend. Who might he be?”
“None of your business for now. He will be properly introduced during mom and dad's anniversary.”
“What happened to us seeing him now?”
“You know I love to steal the spotlight.”
“Forget I even asked,” he said, sighing. “I just wanted to thank you for getting even with Anna. The house felt… weird since the both of you were having that argument over such a little thing.
Little thing? I couldn't blame him. He spent years chasing his dreams. What he actually wanted. He didn't have it ripped from him like it was nothing.
I cocked my head to the side, giving him a small smile. “I did it for you,” I answered.
“Well, thanks.”
“Don't you have a tournament to prepare for?”
“Of course,” he answered, getting up immediately. “You'll be there right?”
“Have I ever missed a year?” I asked, and my smile was genuine this time.
He pulled me in for a hug, kissing my forehead. For just a second, my heart softened.
I felt like I could finally breathe once Daniel was out of the room.
They were definitely going to meet my new “boyfriend” and I couldn't wait to see the shock on their faces when they found out who he actually was. It was going to be priceless.
That was the motivation that I needed to finally go to sleep.
