Chapter 121 Ex Named Tracy
ANNA'S POV
It was almost like I had been holding my breath the whole flight. By the time I was finally off the tarmac, I inhaled the fresh air that was coming with it.
I didn't feel like I was going to cry anymore. I didn't want to even take any bit of going to Italy as a mistake. Seeing the churches and the tourist centers were the fun part of the whole thing. And the time I spent with Ryan was fun as well. Nothing was out of place. I wasn't going to be ungrateful for anything that happened.
I walked into the airport, and that was when I saw Daniel with a placard. My name was written boldly on it. That made me smile a bit.
“I'm not blind,” I said, grinning at him. He wrapped me in a hug immediately. I couldn't help but wonder if Ryan had called him already.
“Now, what happened between you and Ryan?” He asked. “Why are you coming back alone?”
“Because I decided to. And considering the fact that he's your best friend, I could only imagine that he has already called you to tell you everything.”
“No,” Daniel answered, shrugging. He isn't answering his calls either. “So tell me. What's wrong?”
“Do you happen to know an ex named Tracy?” I asked, and he nodded.
“She was almost like the Isabel in Ryan's life. Only that he dated his one. What happened to her?”
He suddenly took a step back. “Please don't tell me that she showed up.”
I looked away immediately m the tears were threatening to spill again. “Well, she did,” I answered. “Unprovoked. She still had the key to his house, over there. I'm just exhausted. I want to go home.”
“Of course,” he said, leading me to the car. I noticed that he didn't bring the driver with him.
“You didn't bring the driver?” I asked, and he nodded. “I wanted a private drive with you. Something told me that you needed it. And I was right.”
I pulled him in for another hug. I felt bad, but there was nothing I could do about it. Ryan had clearly made his choice. He was with the woman he wanted. There was nothing I could do about it.
One of Daniel's hands was in mine as he drove me back home. My parents were waiting in the living room by the time I got home. They looked behind me, and I could tell that they were still waiting for Ryan to come right through the door. It was a shame when he didn't.
I told them everything. My mom quickly wrapped her arm around me. “I'm sure that there's an explanation for what happened. Has he reached out to you ever since?” She asked, and I shook my head. I didn't even think I was ready to hear from him.
I hugged my dad next, inhaling his scent. “Are you sure you're okay?” He asked, and I nodded.
“I don't think there's anything I have to worry about,” I said, shrugging.
“Are you sure?” He asked, and I nodded again. I looked over at Daniel again.
“I'd like to head to the office. There are a few formulas that I would like to try out.”
My dad's face immediately spread into a smile. “You've been going through my book?” He asked, and I nodded.
“Honestly, it's the most productive thing I've done on the trip.”
I could see it on their faces. They had multiple questions. Thankfully, Daniel had all the answers. He could tell them when he was ready.
“Come on,” he said, taking my hand in his, as he led me back outside, into the car. I didn't even care that it was late. I just wanted to rest. I just wanted to smell the chemicals and feel the pipette in my hands again.
The drive was silent, and I smiled to myself as I walked right through my office. Everything was in place. It was all perfect.
I looked over at Daniel. “You're doing a perfect job,” I said smiling at him.
“Of course,” he answered. “I told you I could do a good job handling the business if I was given the chance.”
I ran my hands through my desk. I noticed that there was one file that was sitting there, like it was waiting for me.
“What file is this?” I asked Daniel, and he frowned as he looked at it as well. He finally snapped his finger, remembering.
“It belongs to the janitor. The new one.”
I cocked an eyebrow, as I suddenly turned the pages over.
The face that I saw made me take a step back.
Bella.
The passport in the file told me that she was fine now. My drug had managed to cure her. I felt a moment of pride.
When I remembered all the things she and her mother had done to me in the past, a shudder ran through my spine.
“Do you know her?” Daniel asked, with a frown on his face.
I could barely hold back my smile. “She's the daughter of my previous family. Bella Hayes.”
He sucked in a breath. “I'm so sorry, I didn't know. I would have never hired her if I knew about it.”
“You don't have to worry,” I told him. “I'm just going to focus on paying people back with their own medicine. It would only be fair that she got at least a taste of it.”
Daniel smirked. “This is the first time that I'm seeing you happy to take revenge.”
I shrugged. “They didn't give me a choice. And I'm not even exacting revenge. I just want her to know what it feels like.”
Daniel nodded. I looked down at the file one more time, running my hands through the passport.
Who would have thought that she would end up working for me? Not even I would have imagined something like that. I didn't have any exact plans on showing them that I was the person who manufactured the drug that saved her life. But it seemed like the universe had given me even more chances.
I smiled even wider.
The game had just begun.
