"What are you talking about? You're beginning to scare me.” She pulled back, her eyes darting between her kids and Toby.
The atmosphere of the house shifted—to something terrifying.
“You hired someone to put a tail on me. Why?” Toby said casually, almost like he was muttering to him.
Vera froze. How did he find out?
The house has become quite too deadly now.
Before Vera could speak out, her phone rang out.
It was Eve, her secretary.
“ Answer your phone” Toby said with a deadly voice, puffing out smoke from his mouth.
Vera became scared to take her secretary's call.
“
Hello, Eve “ her voice cracked, as she tried to steady herself.
“Ma’am, something bad just happened,” Eve said with a shaky voice on the phone.
Toby concentrated on his cigarettes, not minding Vera.
It's been a long time since he took cigarettes. Because of people around him, he had to hide this very side of him. Not even Alec knew about his smoking habits.
“What happened, Eve? Did anything go wrong while I was away?” She asked worriedly.
” It's about Miss Olivia. She was confirmed dead just a few minutes ago” Eve announced the heartbreaking news to Vera and her eyes shifted nervously back to Toby who was busy with his cigarettes.
“Did anything bad happen? You look nervous” Toby's voice struck coldly, his eyes fixed at the empty air.
Without saying a word to Eve , Vera dropped the call.
With shaking hands, Vera put the phone in her bag and turned to Toby.
“I guess I should leave now. Something happened in company that needs my attention”
Toby pretended like he didn't hear what Vera just said until she picked her purse, heading towards her kids.
Where did you think you're going?”
“ Home. I have to handle something very urgently”
“It isn't about death. Is it?” Toby asked, slowly narrowing his gaze to her.
Those murderous, gleaming eyes made Vera shiver inside.
Toby looks no different from the man who kidnapped her weeks ago.
About Olivia's sudden death, Vera suspects that Toby must have a hand in all that happened.
How did he get to know about Miss Olivia?
“It's not about death. I just need to see my secretary, that's all” she lied repeatedly.
“ What about your secretary?” Toby asked, his voice cracking.
“ It's nothing. I just need to go” she said, almost screaming out.
Toby didn't respond. He didn't even try to stop her.
Hastily, Verys walked towards her kids. They were still having fun.
“ Hey boys. We've got to go” her voice trembled as she walked hastily to them.
“ Mr Toby, we're leaving already? You didn't get us ice-cream as promised” Ethan Sharply said but Toby didn't respond.
“He smokes?” Elon muttered, asking his mom.
“Sssh” she shushed him. “We just have to hurry”.
Very swiftly, Vera gripped the kids on each hand, dragging them towards the door.
“Bye, Mr Toby” The kids both chroused but Toby remained mute, puffing dangerous smoke in the air.
“Mr Toby Isn't responding” Ethan kept muttering as Vera dragged them with her.
”He looks different,” Elon noticed sharply.
“Keep quiet boys,” Vera said, hurrying.
They reached the door and discovered it had been locked.
Vera let go of the boys and pushed the door hard but it didn't open.
She attempted to break it also but her strength failed her.
That was when she knew the kids and her were in danger.
“ come here boys. Hurry” She said with a shaky voice, shielding her kids first.
Very quickly, she reached for her phone and sent Alec a quick message.
“Mom, did Mr Toby lock us up?” Elon asked, his innocent eyes full of fear.
Vera's heart kept racing even as she tried to protect the kids..“No baby, we're safe, okay”. She assured them but they were in real danger for real.
Elon nodded, trusting his mom. Little did they know that danger was by the corner— not too far.
Suddenly—
Toby appeared from nowhere, spinning a rope professionally over Vera's neck and capturing her like a fish—a bigger one.
“Mommy!” The kids screamed as Toby fiercely drew the ropes.
The ropes tightened in Vera's neck, choking her, and rendering her mute.
She struggled. To stay alive. To fight for her kids. But her strength failed her.
She fainted at the spot and Toby quickly rushed her so she didn't fall to the ground.
“ What have you done to my mom?” Elon cried.
“ Shut the fuck up you son of a jerk!” Toby snared at Elon.
Fear gripped the boys.
They hugged each other, crying, terrified. They even screamed for help but none came.
Watching Toby drag their mom out of the living room , Elon and Ethan ran after him, crying for help.
That made the whole thing easier for Toby. He didn't waste his energy dragging the kids with him. They came all by themselves.
Toby reached an empty room, he opened and put Vera gently on the floor.
Vera was already weak. She didn't know what was happening to her. Not even the cry of the kids brought her back to her.
“Hey boy!” Toby turned to Elon and Ethan, his eyes red.
“ Mommy, please come back,” Ethan continued crying.
“ Ssh” Toby shut them up.
He took the rope, grabbed Elon and tied his little hands firmly.
The little boy screamed out as the rope dug into his soft tender skin tightly.
The same way, he grabbed Ethan by the hands but the little boy bit him with his sharp teeth.
The pain sank into Toby's brain. He almost screamed out but grabbed Ethan and whipped him with the remaining ropes tied together.
Seeing that they were no one but Alec kids, Toby's anger grew evenly.
With strength, he whipped the kids harder and harder, having no mercy in his heart for them.
In no time, Elon began to bleed from his forehead because of how hard he was whipped.
Ethan also had all his skin reddened. He cried but no One was coming to save them.
in pain, Ethan glared at his mom and brother.
Elon had given up crying. And his breathing was becoming too fast. But their mom, he couldn't explain her state.
She wasn't moving her body. She wasn't even breathing. She was just there on the bare floor with her eyes shut.
This was a nightmare. The kind they have never experienced.
