Chapter 8 Chapter 8. Zoria Fell into Critical Condition

Chapter 8 Chapter 8. Zoria Fell into Critical Condition
Zephyr narrowed his eyes slightly, staring directly at Evander, his gaze intense. “She’s carrying my child. If I’m not worried, why should you be?”

Evander’s anger grew even more, and the atmosphere between them suddenly became tense.

At that moment, the operating room door was pushed open, and a doctor hurriedly came out.

“Mr. Hawthorne.”

Zephyr shoved Evander aside and walked toward the doctor. “How did the surgery go?”

“There’s no issue with Ms. Faye, but Ms. Everhart… she… ”

Zephyr froze, a bad premonition rising within him. “What about Zoria?”

“We don’t know the cause, but Ms. Everhart is bleeding heavily from her vagina. Her condition is critical.”

Zephyr could only feel his ears ringing, every sound blending together, unable to make sense of anything. He furrowed his brow, looking at the doctor and asking again, “What did you say? What happened?”

“Ms. Everhart’s vagina suddenly began bleeding heavily. She is on her deathbed.”

Evander’s face changed, and he grabbed the doctor’s arm, “How did this happen? Explain it clearly!”

The doctor glanced at Evander, who was frantic, and explained, “Ms. Everhart started bleeding heavily during the bone marrow extraction procedure. We haven’t found the cause yet, and her condition is very dangerous right now.”

Bone marrow extraction? Why did Zoria need to undergo that?

Evander rushed forward, grabbing Zephyr by the collar, his eyes full of fury, “It’s you… You made Zoria donate her bone marrow?”

Zephyr stared back at him, his eyes dark like a bottomless pit, “So what if it was me?”

“Don’t you know that it’s already dangerous for an Omega like Zoria, with mixed blood, to be pregnant? And yet you made her donate marrow, do you want her to die?”

Zephyr stood frozen, stunned. He had never thought Zoria might die.

If Zoria died today in the operating room, would he feel heartbroken?

His heart trembled, filled with both worry and pain. Zephyr bit his lip, his cold gaze fixed on the doctor standing behind Evander.

“Why are you still standing there? Save her! If you can’t save her, I’ll sue this entire hospital!”

The doctor, terrified, trembled, “Mr. Hawthorne, please sign the emergency surgery consent form, and we will proceed with the operation for Ms. Everhart immediately.”

“Let me into the operating room. I want to understand Zoria’s health condition.”

When Evander received the message from Zoria, his instincts told him that something bad was about to happen to her. So, when he rushed to the hospital, he had already put on a white lab coat and handed his work credentials to the doctor.

The doctor hesitated, “This is against protocol…”

"Let him in. If anything happens, I will take responsibility," Zephyr said.

Evander coldly glanced at Zephyr. "Although Everhart has collapsed, Zoria still has the support of my pack. If something happens to Zoria, I will not spare you!"

Evander, along with the doctor, entered the operating room. Zephyr trembled as he fumbled through his pocket for a pack of cigarettes, intending to use nicotine to calm his nerves, but then remembered that this was a hospital, and smoking was prohibited. He still clutched the pack of cigarettes, looking up at the red light of the operating room, his heart tightening. The pain in his chest grew more distinct.

A few minutes later, the nurse stepped out of the operating room, holding a pen and paper. "Mr. Hawthorne, please sign here."

Zephyr looked at the waiver, a release of responsibility for the critically ill patient, and his heart felt like it was being crushed. The pain spread throughout his body, even his fingers were trembling. Despite his efforts to hold the pen, he couldn't bring himself to sign.

He looked up at the nurse, his voice hoarse, asking, "Zoria... will be alright, won't she?"

The nurse couldn’t guess Zephyr's emotions. In the past, she knew he had always been indifferent, even disdainful, toward Zoria, so she shook her head and said she didn’t know.

Zephyr nodded, then carefully took the pen and signed his name on the waiver. As the last stroke of the pen was made, he felt like his strength had been drained, and he leaned against the cold wall.

Zoria... have I allowed you to die?

Zephyr had never imagined that the day would come when he would have to sign the emergency surgery consent form for Zoria. He lifted his head, leaning against the cold wall behind him, staring straight into the operating room where Evander was saving Zoria, while he could only stand outside and wait for her fate.

In Zephyr’s eyes, Zoria, the foolish female who had pursued him for three years, had always been something that could exist or not. He had never cared about her feelings or whether she lived or died.

But when he learned that Zoria was in the operating room, her life in danger, he suddenly trembled all over, feeling like something important was about to leave him forever.

Zephyr lowered his eyes, staring at the tip of his shoes, his mind in a panic. Images from five years ago flashed in his mind: on a summer day, a beautiful female holding a dog lying on the grass, smiling at him.

“Mr. Hawthorne, my name is Zoria Everhart, you can call me Zoria.”

If Kieran hadn't imprisoned Zephyr's father for the mayoral position, causing his father to die in disgrace, perhaps Zephyr wouldn't hate Zoria so much.

Unfortunately, there is no “if” in life. What Kieran owed him, Zoria had to repay on behalf of her father.

Inside the operating room, Zoria lay still on the surgery table, wearing an oxygen mask, her weak breath forming a white mist. Her face was pale, powerless, eyes tightly shut, yet still brimming with tears, her chest no longer rising and falling, like a corpse.

Evander stepped closer and saw that Zoria’s entire body was soaked in blood, with a tube attached to her hand and placed on her stomach, occasionally twitching as if signaling that she was still alive. Evander gently took Zoria’s slender hand.

"Zoria, I am by your side now."
