Chapter 50 Chapter 50. Second Baby Gone Too

Chapter 50 Chapter 50. Second Baby Gone Too
The doctor had said enough. Whether Zephyr listened or not was his own business. It was just that the female lying unconscious inside the emergency room was truly pitiful.

Zoria remained in a coma. And Kieran’s matter still had to be dealt with. Zephyr ordered his subordinates to take Kieran to the crematorium to handle the cremation, then instructed his assistant to find a suitable plot of land to bury him.

Kieran’s death caused quite a stir. When Evander heard the news, he immediately went to the detention center, only to be told that Kieran had already been taken away for cremation.

Kieran was dead… then where was Zoria?

Evander was deeply anxious. Zoria’s phone had been turned off for months, and he could not reach her. When he tried calling Zephyr, he was blocked, even blacklisted. Evander stood at the entrance of the police station and saw several guards walking out, chatting among themselves.

When he heard them mention “the former mayor’s daughter,” Evander immediately stepped forward and stopped them. “Let me ask you something. Did Zoria come here today?”

One of the guards looked him up and down. “Who are you?”

“I’m Zoria’s cousin. I want to know where she went.”

“Oh. She did come by earlier today. She was with Mr. Hawthorne. But not long after, Mr. Hawthorne carried her away.”

Evander frowned. “Carried her away?”

The guard explained, “Yes. I was there at the time. I don’t know what happened, but she suddenly started bleeding from below, and then Mr. Hawthorne picked her up and left. She’s probably still at the hospital.”

By calculation, Zoria should have been seven months pregnant. So why did she suddenly start bleeding? The more Evander thought about it, the colder his spine felt. Zephyr had imprisoned Zoria and forced her through all kinds of torment, draining her body and destabilizing the pregnancy. It was not hard to imagine why complications occurred.

But which hospital had Zephyr taken her to?

Evander thought for a moment. Given Zephyr’s personality, he would never take Zoria to some random hospital. After thinking it through, the most likely place was still the city hospital, the same one where Zephyr had once forced Zoria to donate bone marrow to Faye.

…

Zoria lay motionless on the hospital bed. Her lips were ashen, her eyes tightly shut. Zephyr sat beside her, holding her hand in his palm, trying to pass a little warmth to her icy fingers.

This was his and Zoria’s second baby. He thought that if the first one had not been lost during the bone marrow donation, it would have been seven months along by now.

What a pity. Their first baby was gone. And this second baby, so hard won, couldn’t be kept either.

Zephyr couldn’t stop the image from rising in his mind: Zoria carefully cradling her belly, cherishing the unborn baby like a priceless treasure. If that baby had lived, would Zoria have protected it the same way?

Zephyr had always felt an overwhelming urge to possess Zoria. The instant he learned Zoria was carrying another male’s baby, he went mad, consumed by a single thought: forcing her to carry his baby, no matter the cost.

That feeling had nothing to do with love. He did not love Zoria.

If he had loved her, he would not have treated her the way he did. The one he truly “loved” should have been Faye, the pure Omega female who had grown up at his side since childhood, the one he had once sworn to protect for a lifetime.

In name, Zoria was Zephyr’s mate, but in truth, she was worth less than a servant in the villa. If this were ancient times, Zoria would have been nothing more than a sex slave, ordered by her master to perform the most degrading tasks.

In the past, when Zoria slept, her brows would relax, and a peaceful smile would linger on her face. At some point he could no longer remember, sorrow had settled thickly into her features, refusing to fade. Even in her sleep, her brows were tightly drawn together.

Zephyr reached out and touched the space between Zoria’s brows.

Her lashes trembled slightly. When she opened her eyes, she saw Zephyr sitting in front of her, staring at her with a dark, oppressive gaze.

Seeing her awake, Zephyr leaned closer. "Are you thirsty? Do you want some water?"

Zoria stared at him blankly. There was not a trace of vitality on her face. That hollow look made Zephyr panic for no reason, as if all of Zoria’s joy, anger, sorrow, and laughter had vanished in an instant.

At this moment, Zoria looked even more hopeless than she had when she lost the baby before.

"Zephyr, let’s sever the bond."

Zephyr was heating water. When he heard Zoria say those words behind him, his spine jerked violently. Boiling water splashed onto the back of his hand, the searing pain cutting from his skin straight into his heart.

"You’re dreaming."

Zoria lay there like a corpse, her dark eyes fixed on the stark white ceiling.

"Zephyr… did I lose another baby again?" Zoria’s body was utterly depleted, her voice hoarse and so faint it was almost inaudible.

Zephyr’s back stiffened. "Yeah. From now on, don’t go outside. Stay home and be more careful… then you’ll be able to get pregnant again."

So that was it. He still wanted to lock Zoria away and force her to give birth to his baby. Was she supposed to keep living this wretched, degrading life again?

Zoria turned her head away, her back to Zephyr, and placed a hand over her abdomen. "If the baby is gone, then it’s gone. It shouldn’t have come into this world in the first place… just like the one before."

“Zoria, you still remember that bastard pup of yours?”

Zephyr had expected her to be shattered by the miscarriage, but instead she brought up the pup she’d lost before.

"Three lives… I can’t take it anymore, Zephyr. I want to sever the bond."

Zephyr narrowed his eyes, a cold light flashing through them. "You want to cut the bond so you can go find that stray male of yours?"

"Think whatever you want."

Her indifferent attitude drove Zephyr completely mad. He lunged forward, grabbed Zoria by the collar, and yanked her off the bed.
