Chapter 11 Chapter 11. Zephyr Denies the Promise
Zoria stared at the thermos on the table, her fingers stiff as she opened the lid. Inside, there were only a few pieces of vegetables, with some leftover meat, and when she poured it out, the soup was completely cold, no warmth left.
Yet, Zoria still intended to drink the soup, for she was very hungry. She took a small sip, trying to suppress the nausea, and then forcefully swallowed the entire cold bowl of soup.
After finishing, Zoria felt a slight sting in her nose but fought back the tears. She felt that all the greatest injustices in her life were caused by Zephyr.
For Zephyr, Zoria had always hoped that one day, through her persistence, he would come to like her. Looking back now, she realized how naïve and infatuated she had been, but in the end, all she received was the most excruciating pain.
The love that Zoria once had for Zephyr during her youth was nothing more than a one-sided affection from her alone.
Zoria let out a soft sigh, leaning against the hospital bed. She raised her hand to her forehead, where the wound had been bandaged once again. As she touched the outer layer of gauze, the injury on her forehead throbbed faintly.
During the early stages of her pregnancy, Zoria often felt sleepy. She adjusted the bed, lowering it, and lay flat, staring at the ceiling. Before long, drowsiness overcame her, and she drifted into a light sleep.
In her dream, Zoria saw herself lying on the ground, her body drenched in blood. Zephyr kicked her stomach, glaring at her with malice, and said, "I told you, even if the trash inside you is still alive, I will find a way to make him die."
Zoria immediately woke up, the scene from the dream feeling all too real. She was so scared that her body trembled. She hugged her chest, breathing heavily, her dazed eyes fixed on the ceiling. Once her breath steadied, she tilted her head to the side and suddenly noticed Zephyr standing at the door. She hadn't known when he had arrived. Zoria stared at Zephyr, the nightmare scene replaying in her mind. Her fingers tightened around the blanket, her heart pounding, struggling to breathe as though something was choking her throat.
Zephyr hadn't expected Zoria to notice his presence so quickly. He walked over and stood before her, as usual, his deep eyes carrying an indescribable emotion.
"When did you wake up? Why didn’t you tell me?"
Zoria was stunned. Hearing Zephyr ask that question, she found it utterly laughable. Even if she had informed him, would Faye have allowed him to come find her?
Her baby nearly died because of Zephyr's selfishness, and so did she. When she woke up, she was alone in the hospital room and had to eat a cold bowl of soup. Yet when Zephyr arrived, the first thing he asked was why she hadn't told him she had woken up. How ridiculous!
Seeing that Zoria didn't respond, Zephyr stepped closer. He stood by the bed, looking down at her, and coldly asked, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Zoria propped herself up on her elbow to sit up. Zephyr intended to help her, but when he reached out his hand, he stopped midway, feeling embarrassed.
Zoria looked up at Zephyr, and after a while, she spoke, "Zephyr, when will we sever the bond?"
A hint of surprise appeared in Zephyr's eyes. He hadn't expected Zoria's first words to be about wanting to sever the bond with him. His hand clenched into a fist as he lowered his gaze, staring intensely at Zoria's beautiful face.
Zoria's lips naturally curved upwards, always giving the impression that she was a female who loved to smile. Before bonding with Zephyr, Zoria had always been active, open, and obedient - exactly the kind of female everyone loved.
Zephyr had once thought of Zoria as a radiant sunflower always turning towards the sun. But now, the sunflower had withered, its roots rotting, and its petals weak, ready to fall apart with the slightest touch.
"Zoria, I don't agree to sever the bond."
Zoria was stunned, her eyes wide with disbelief. After a moment, her lips trembled as she spoke, "You agreed with me, a few days ago, in the evening when I signed the marrow donation agreement. You said that as long as I donated marrow to Faye, we would both agree to sever the bond."
Zephyr slightly curled his lips and gently took Zoria's chin in his hand, his voice as cold as ice: "When did I ever agree to that? Where's the proof?"
Zoria's eyes slowly turned red, her eyelashes trembling like a rabbit in panic, her teeth clenched as if she wanted to bite through her own jaw. Before her, the scene from the nightmare she had just experienced replayed over and over in her mind, like a movie that wouldn't stop.
"Zephyr, you're not the unfaithful one, right?" Zoria seemed to be reassuring herself, but her words carried hesitation and tremor.
Zephyr released Zoria's chin and looked at her with a contemptuous gaze, as if mocking her innocence.
"Zoria, have you forgotten? I can deceive even the moon goddess."
Zoria's already pale face grew even paler. She lowered her head, looking at her trembling hands as tears rolled down her face. Zephyr, the male she had loved for five years, the one who had deceived her countless times. Yet, she had always trusted him foolishly.
Three years ago, Zephyr swore to the moon goddess that whether in good times or bad, whether rich or poor, whether healthy or sick, whether happy or sorrowful, he would forever love Zoria, cherish Zoria, and remain loyal to Zoria for life.
But he broke his vow!
He was never a man of his word!
"Don't even think about severing the bond with me. Zoria, you were the one who used despicable means to force me to mate with you. Do you think you can decide when this game ends?" Zephyr smirked coldly, then turned and walked out of the hospital room.
