Chapter 73 Looking for Trouble

Chapter 73 Looking for Trouble
Jayden Point of View.

I hadn't had any conversation with Lexie that didn't end in an argument since she found out I was in love with Rachel. I sighed heavily, throwing my head back, and pulled my own face, preferring to rip it off than to apologize.

"If you don't want to say anything, you can just listen," the brunette said, looking down, and I shook my head.

"It's not that. It's just that I know I was a jerk last night, and I know I need to apologize, but it's still difficult for me," I explain, and she blinks her eyes, looking surprised.

"I thought you became an expert at it from apologizing to Rachel so much," she retorts, and I shrug.

"With her, things are different," I affirm, and she purses her lips.

I knew that no matter how hard she tried to show otherwise, she still felt bothered when I talked about Rachel. I averted my gaze when I heard the redhead laugh and gave her a weak smile. Lexie followed my gaze and smiled smugly, as if she were happy that I was also suffering, and I grimaced at her.

"Seems like you're getting a taste of your own medicine, right?" she asks, making me roll my eyes.

"I am. Happy?" I ask, and she pretends to think, but soon nods, smiling.

"Very, but I'm not here to see you suffer, that's just a bonus," she asserts and sighs, pouting before starting to speak.

"I also wanted to apologize. Maybe you misunderstood me, but I was just trying to help Rachel," she affirms, lowering her head and playing with her fingers.

She had as much difficulty apologizing as I did, and I purse my lips, furrowing my brow.

"Suggesting she lose her virginity with my best friend?" I retort, irritated, and she shakes her head.

"No, I only said that because I thought you would get jealous and help her," the brunette explains, and I stare at her, analyzing her words.

"Why would you do that?" I ask, suspicious, and she shrugs.

"As much as you doubt it, Rachel has become my friend, and I had a horrible first time, so I didn't want her to have a bad experience," she affirms, and I think once again about the subject, but soon shake my head.

"I can't, Lexie. Seriously, I'm so in love already. If I'm her first, will I even come out of this alive?" I ask, as if she had some magical recipe to solve my problem, but she just stares at me with her sadistic smile once again. "Can you stop enjoying my suffering and advise me?" I ask, and she laughs before pursing her lips trying to stay serious.

"Sorry, it's stronger than me," Lexie asserts, and I try to leave, but she grabs my backpack, pulling me to face her, and continues. "Okay, I'll be serious now. Do you see any way to stop liking her now?" she asked, and I looked away at Rachel, who was exchanging numbers with Jasper, and shook my head.

"No. It's like she locked my heart in a safe and threw away the key," I sigh, exasperated, and Lexie shrugs.

"Then enjoy it! Who knows, if you're good at it, maybe she'll fall for you too?" she suggests, and I pout.

"What do you mean 'if' I'm good at it? You know I am!" I assert offended, and she shrugs and scratches her head, pretending to think.

"Do I? I don't remember," she teases, and I roll my eyes.

"You're too funny today!" I mock, and she rolls her eyes.

"Wish I were!" she asserts, and I narrow my eyes, staring at the brunette, but soon she continues. "Well, the important thing is that I think you should seize any opportunity to be with her if that's what you want," Lexie asserts, and I hated to admit it, but she was right.

I throw my head back as if asking for divine guidance, but there's no answer. I'm alone in this, and I decide that if I'm playing with fire, maybe it's time to get burned.

"Okay, but if I'm going to do this, I need your help," I assert, and she widens her eyes in confusion.

"Difficult, I don't really like women, Jayden," she jokes, and I sigh irritably at her jokes.

"It's not about that, clown!" I retort, and she chuckles childishly, but as soon as I start to explain, her expression becomes serious.

I keep my eyes on Rachel, making sure she doesn't overhear, and as soon as she says goodbye to Jasper and walks towards us, bouncing like a child, I cut the subject short, and she seems to notice.

"Football!" I affirmed quickly.

"Fashion!" Lexie says at the same time, and Rachel stares at us, confused.

"Look, we're late for class!" I affirmed, guiding the redhead to the classroom, and luckily, this seemed to be distraction enough for her not to insist.

Rachel and I go to one room, and Lexie to another. Occasionally, the redhead would stare at me suspiciously, but I would just look away.

The preparations for the charity ball were exhausting. We worked on it all week, and when we had a break, Rachel made me study.

She was getting closer and closer to Jasper, and it bothered me, but at the same time, I knew there was nothing I could do about it.

I heard rumors that he was liking a girl, and his friend even teased him about it in the locker room because of the cheesy messages he was exchanging with the girl.

The problem was, I knew that girl wasn't Rachel, and I wondered if I should confront him or maybe warn the redhead, who seemed more and more in love every day, but I knew that any path I chose would lead me to the same place. Rachel angry with me.

We were good this week, and despite her always trying to kick me out of her house, I ended up sleeping there almost every night. Lexie seemed to want to stick to the redhead more and more, and it was making me want to beg Patrick to get back together with her so that the brunette would leave us alone.

I like Lexie, but when Rachel got angry with me, she joined the redhead, and vice versa. This female union sometimes put me in a tight spot, not to mention that I hardly ever got some time alone with Rachel.

When the day of the ball finally arrived, I left my credit card with Rachel, and she went to the mall with Lexie to buy a dress, even though she insisted she didn't need one. I knew that if it depended on her, she would go with some regular dress that I bought for her, but I didn't want her to feel inferior to anyone, and to be honest, as I tied the black bow tie I would wear tonight, all I could think about was how beautiful she would look, and I smiled at my reflection.

"Laughing at yourself, Jayden?" My father's voice invaded the room, making me turn and look at him. I didn’t know what he wanted, but I knew he wouldn’t come to my room unless he was looking for trouble.
