Chapter 64 Keep Liying
Chapter 64 Keep Liying
When break time comes, I go to the principal's office and print an announcement asking for help from students who want to participate in the ball committee and stick it on the board where everyone will see it. I scheduled the meeting for a time when classes would have already ended in the hope that someone would show up, but I knew it was difficult.
I went down to the cafeteria, but I didn't even know how to act. I saw Jayden sitting at a table with his friends, and if before he seemed to be feeling as bad as I was, now he was laughing at something Finn was saying, and I shrunk. He got over it very quickly, and that just confirms that I made the right decision. Lexie waves to me, taking her purse from a place next to her that seemed to have been saved for me, and I hesitate, but when Jayden looks at me and raises a cup of orange juice on his tray, I understand it's for me. Apparently, our agreement remained in place, and as much as I suggested it myself, I'm surprised he agreed so easily.
"Here comes Dynamite!" Jayden joked, as if nothing had happened, and I realized he wanted to annoy me.
It's official, we're back to normal, so if he was going to pretend, I would do the same.
"Careful, I might explode your face!" I retorted, and he smiled, pouting.
Lexie stares at us and narrows her eyes, seeming to see something that no one else there saw.
"Rach, come with me to the bathroom?" She grabbed my arm, and I grumbled because I had to let go of the sandwich Jayden was handing me.
"Why? Are you afraid of being sucked into the toilet?" I ask, and she rolls her eyes, dragging me away.
As soon as we stopped near some bushes, I pretended not to understand that she wanted to talk to me and provoke.
"What's up? Are you going to pee in the bushes?" I ask, and she sighs irritably.
"Can you stop with the lame jokes? What the hell happened between you and Jayden? When I found you earlier, you said you were going to try, and now it seems like you're back to square one," she asked, exasperated, and I didn't know what to say.
If I told the truth, she would probably tell him, and we would go back to that destructive cycle, so I just lie.
"Thank goodness I changed my mind before I found Jayden and turned back," I lied, and she shook her head before repeating the motion with her thumb.
"Something happened, Rachel, there's no use lying. Where's all that talk about fighting against ego?" She asked, and I pursed my lips disdainfully.
"It's all nonsense! My teacher probably got it from some bad self-help book," I grumble, and she doesn't seem convinced.
"Rachel, you know that if you don't tell me, I'll ask Jayden, right?" She threatened, raising her eyebrows, and I didn't give in, but when she turned to go after Jayden, I pulled her back.
"Okay, gossip girl, I'll tell you!" I huffed, and she looked at me with a satisfied smile. "It wasn't anything surprising. I got there, and Jayden was making out with a blonde, so I changed my mind. End of story!" I said simply, trying not to collapse as I replayed the scene in my head.
"That jerk! I should've known I couldn't leave him alone in that room. Women swarm around him like flies," she sighed, exasperated and seemed to get annoyed as she continued. "I should beat him up!" She concluded, and I shrugged.
"Well, you wouldn't be the first to try," I affirmed, and she widened her eyes in curiosity.
"Really? Did anyone else see?" She asked, and I told her everything, and she was shocked. "So now Jasper thinks you guys broke up? That's dangerous if you still want to be with him!" She asserted, she was so focused she hardly looked at me.
"If you came to talk bad things about me, you should have called me. I know horrible things about myself," Jayden appeared with my sandwich and my juice in hand, and only when I saw some students going back to class did I understand that we had spent more time there than I imagined.
He handed me my snack, and as soon as I started eating, Lexie slapped Jayden on the head, making me laugh for the first time that horrible day.
"Hey! What was that for?" He asked, outraged.
"Karma!" I explained as I bit into my sandwich, which was delicious, and I was surprised because I never had to tell him what sandwich I wanted, he always knew.
"You two are idiots, and right now, I want to hit both of you!" Lexie explained, and it was my turn to ask.
"Why should I get hit?" I ask, as indignant as Jayden, and she rolls her eyes.
"I'm not even going to start explaining how stupid you two are. But if Jasper thinks you guys broke up, he probably thinks the coast is clear and will start hitting on you!" she explains, and I fake a smile.
The truth is, I didn't even want to think about it now, but if it keeps Jayden away, then I'll continue on this path.
"And what's wrong with that? That's exactly what I want!" I affirmed, and she shook her head, annoyed because neither Jayden nor I understood her point.
"What's wrong? Did you forget that Jasper broke up with me when he found out I was a virgin? If you guys get together, he'll soon realize that you have no experience in relationships, and worse, he'll know that you and Jayden were lying all this time," she explains, and we stare at each other, flabbergasted because she was right.
"He will indeed, no one will believe that I was in a relationship without intimacy," Jayden grumbles, and I roll my eyes.
"Well, it's a good reason to justify your cheating," I retorted angrily, and he denied it.
"What cheating? You said we had nothing!" He argued, and I wouldn't back down.
"But nobody needed to know that, you idiot! Now I'm going to get the reputation of being cheated on! I knew this was going to happen! I don't know where my head was when I agreed with this stupid idea," I grumble, and when Jayden tries to argue, Lexie silences us with a hiss that escaped her lips.
"It doesn't matter! You guys created this lie, and now you have to go with it until the end!" she says firmly and sighs before continuing. "There's only one way for you guys to get out of this!" She asserts, and Jayden seemed to doubt.
"And how are we supposed to do that?" He asked, crossing his arms.
"You guys are going to have sex!" She asserts, and everything seemed to stop around us for a few seconds.
Is she right, and the only way out of this mess is by getting into an even worse one?
