Chapter 97 Chapter 97
"Where the hell is Keegan? I haven't seen him all day?" I dropped my phone on the nightstand and rolled out of bed. Rylee was yawning and stretching. She had also slept all day long.
"What time is it?" She asked in a low robe, yawning.
"Probably past your lunch. Hop into the bathtub, you've slept for way too long." I rolled my hair up into a rough bun.
She got out of bed then went into the bathroom. I headed to give her a bath while she didn't stop rambling about how exciting it was to have the doll and how she was going to treasure it forever.
We headed out and I slipped one of my Keegan's shirts over her. I laughed at how oversized it was. "I'll let Keegan know that you need new clothes."
"Yay, thank you!" she grinned.
I had to change my clothes before heading out with Rylee.
'Hey Jane, where are you?' I was startled to hear Mae's voice in my head.
'Uh... that's new.'
'I can't believe it worked; I could just sense your mind, open so much for everyone to get into. Where are you? Head over to Crystal's room, Ava claims she has big news to share.'
'Okay, I'll be there soon.'
'I also have good news to share.' She added.
'Fine, I'll be there soon.' I reiterated then she ended the link.
"Wow, I can mind link someone else that isn't Keegan." A victorious smile spread my lips apart.
"That's very good for you." she smiled back.
"Let's go to Crystal before going to the kitchen to eat something." I said, holding her hands, then headed to Crystal's room and before I could knock, Mae flung the door open with an excited grin on.
"Finally! I'm dying to know what the weirdo has to say but she insists you must be here as well." Mae said and pulled me in to sit on Crystal's bed beside Crystal while Ava sat on the vanity chair that had been pulled to the front of the bed.
"Now what's the big announcement I have things to attend to." Crystal said.
Rylee sat beside me while Mae stood beside Ava, clearly very interested in knowing what she had to say.
"Great, so you know the dude I said I liked?" she asked and we nodded, even Rylee, "Great, we were just going out together and suddenly felt the sparks. It took a while till our wolves rang it on our head that we are mates. The moon goddess has made me his second chance Mate. Isn't that so beautiful?"
"Oh my gosh!" Mae squealed and pulled her into a really tight hug.
"I'm so happy for you." Crystal grinned.
"I'm also very happy for both of you."
"Me too." Rylee replied to us and we chuckled. "What? I know what it means to have a mate as a second chance, it's so beautiful." She shrugged.
"Pretty smart child, uh?" Crystal smiled and returned her gaze to Ava. "So tell us more about your new mate."
"Well..." she had a blissful smile on. "His name is Evan, he's-"
"Evan? That's Scarlett's mate." I interrupted her..
"I knew it!" She said with a frown. "We were supposed to meet at Red Hut Bar but he was with Scarlett. She was acting really strange and looked pained that we were together but he didn't even want to sit with her. That explains why she has been so grumpy towards me and over dominating me as the Beta." She said with her eyebrows furrowed in a frown.
"I'm so confused. Scarlett ever had a mate?" Crystal wondered.
"Yes, but she rejected him and left him heartbroken." Ava replied with a roll of her eyes then suddenly gazed at me like realization just hit her. "So Keegan is the one? Evan told me that his previous mate rejected and pushed him constantly because she claimed that she wanted to be mates with her Alpha."
"What the hell? Doesn't she realize he's Jane's?" Mae's face was puckered in disgust.
"I knew Scarlett was crazy since we were younger but I never knew it was to the extent of refusing her mate for Keegan. Jane, you've gotta be careful around her, okay?" Crystal warned. "Don't let her tamper with your relationship."
"Of course, I won't." I appreciated their concern.
"And the most crazy thing is that Evan is going to be an Alpha soon. He's a really strong Alpha as well and his pack members are amazing and very defensive of their pack."
"if he's an Alpha of another pack and you're mates," Mae started, " then you'll be Luna of his pack."
"Yup."
"That means you'll leave me here?"
"Sadly, yes."
"No way!" Mae frowned. "We've grown up together. I left my pack so we could both live and study out of town, we agreed to return to this pack together and stick together forever. How would you just leave me this way?" Her voice shook in pain.
"You can join my new pack. The pack members are very welcoming." She shrugged.
"No, no, no way. Mae is going nowhere." Crystal asserted.
"Why not? It'd be fun for both of us." Ava's eyes were filled with similar sadness.
"It'd be, but I doubt Casper would want us to leave this pack." Mae widened her eyes as though she just realized that she had blurted that out.
"Oh yeah, regarding that. Did you tell him that you like him? How did it turn out to be?" Crystal rose to her feet.
"Well... it turned out well. He didn't exactly say it back, but his actions said it." A blush formed on her cheeks.
"What do you mean by action?" Crystal drew her eyes in askance. " Did you both have..." she trailed off, glancing at Rylee.
"No, not that deep. Just simple gestures. It was just a cute moment for both of us and we went on a run, our wolves had fun. Simple."
She let out a deep sigh. "That's great. Nothing must happen till you're fully mated, okay?"
"Fine, Mom." Mae rolled her eyes.
"What? I don't want you to have your heart broken for no reason after you've lost your previous jewel."
"I'm certain my heart isn't going to be broken."
"What exactly is precious jewel?" Rylee hopped off the bed.
"uh...I don't know... how..."
"It's okay, I think I understand." She started fiddling with Crystal's stethoscope. "I want to be a doctor like you. Do you think I'll be able to do that?" she asked, plugging the stethoscope to her ears.
"Of course, you can be anything you want. Now give me that. We don't want you turning deaf for mistakenly slamming it against something while it's still in your ears."
"But I want to wear it," she pouted, taking it off her ears.
"Mae, collect it from her " she sighed and resumed attending to her equipment.
"Hand it over." Mae said.
"No!" Rylee started running around the room with it while Mae chased her.
It was strange for an adult chasing a young child over a stethoscope and she couldn't even catch up with her speed, so we were all laughing at them.
"It's not funny!" Mae snapped. "Rylee, hand it over, now."
Rylee still ran around with it while Mae couldn't catch her. Just when she was about to grab her, Rylee quickly hid behind me, hugging me to protect her from Mae while squeaking. "Tell her to hand it over, " Mae said, breathless.
"I think we need to check your lungs. How can you be breathing this heavily after such a short run?" Crystal teased and we laughed again.
"Rylee, give it to her." I said.
"But I-" "Just give it to her." I made sure to sound demanding but not harsh.
She handed it over to Mae and Mae placed a small knock on her head. As they resumed their strange squabble, I suddenly missed Keegan so much. I hadn't talked to him today and my body was dying to be touched by my handsome mate.
"Do you have any idea where Keegan is?" I asked no one in particular.
"We know you miss him but still sit still. You have to spend time with us at least once in a while." Crystal said and finished what she was doing with her equipment.
What the heck was she saying? I had spent enough time with them. I badly needed to meet Keegan, to be hugged by him, for him to shower me with his kisses and love and attention, his hands on my waist. Thinking about it was making me miss him even more. I couldn't bear this torture.
"I'll be back soon, okay? I have to make a meal." I lied. "What meal? One with a love potion?" Ava teased with a smirk.
I rolled my eyes at them and turned to Rylee. "I'll be back soon, be a good girl." I planted a kiss on her head before taking my leave from the room.
I assumed Keegan was going to be hungry so I headed downstairs to make him a special meal.
I knew all his favorite dishes so I made a few of them and my favorite dishes, ready to spend a relaxing moment wrapped up in his arms and maybe watch a movie again.
I tried to link Mason and to my surprise, it worked with ease. 'Wow, hey.'
'Hey Luna.' He was definitely not going to get over his formality. "Do you have any idea where Keegan is?"
'I think he should be on the veranda. Do you need me to confirm that?' 'No, not at all. Thank you so much.' I ended the link and it ended successfully. That made my smile even bigger.
I grabbed the tray of food then headed out and to the veranda.
Just when I was by the door to step into the veranda and was wondering how to open it wider while holding the tray, I heard Kate's voice as she said.
"So you don't really like her?"
"Of course not. Why'd I like her? She's just an omega?" His voice was very cold as he spoke.
"Are you certain? You seem to be acting too cozy and lovey-dovey with that mutt."
"Don't you know the son you raised? I promised her that I was going to make her my mate to ruin her for rejecting me, I'm only out to get revenge on her for rejecting me, I want to crush her completely. Plus, I just wanted to know what feels like to have a mate and it's partially good, but I'm not interested in a life-long commitment with Jane - the omega." He scoffed and the rigidness in his voice made my legs began to wobble.
"I knew I could trust you and I knew you weren't so foolish." Kate started proudly. "Get rid of her soon and out of your life before things become too complicated."
"No, not yet. I still have goals to achieve as well." His voice didn't
possess any remorse and he sounded like the brutally arrogant Alpha of Dark Stone pack. "I'll have to hold on to her for a little longer and
just make everyone think we're in love and are going to be mated forever."
