Chapter 90 Chapter 90
"Yes. It's a good thing we finally met again." She was wearing a long dress that covered her entire skin except her head. Was she a vampire that didn't want to be exposed to daylight?
"Yes, I guess so." I smiled at her and was able to point out a few resemblances between us unlike last time. We had similar nose shapes and jawlines, I observed.
"What exactly is going on with you being Keegan's mate?" She asked.
"I don't understand you."
"The party. When he asked you to be his mate..." she added.
"Oh, that. Of course... isn't that what you want?" I tittered, unsure of how to react to what she had to say and rose to my feet.
"That is what we want, but both of your reactions and emotions seemed way too genuine to be fake. You were moved to tears." She stated.
"It's all fine." I waved a hand over my face.
"You shouldn't forget her revenge, I hope you haven't?" She narrowed her eyes at me.
"Of course I haven't, but I've been thinking about it. I've been trying to reconsider a few things because Keegan isn't as bad as you think. I know you're probably wiser and you know better about these things than I do, but so many people have the wrong impression of him. He's actually a good man if you get to know him better."
"What the hell are you saying?!"
"What I mean is that there could be a misunderstanding somewhere. I even had a dream about him killing Jess, but I still don't think that Keegan could've done something that terrible. I know he was a very terrible man, but I think there might be a misunderstanding regarding him killing Jess."
"Are you fucking kidding me right now?" she asked with a frown.
"I'm not. I've also put it into deep thoughts and he's a great man, he makes me very happy and like you said, his emotions are genuine. It'll only be foolish of me to break his heart."
"He killed Jess!" she reminded me with clenched fists. "And you just said you had a nightmare about it. What's wrong with you?"
"You still don't understand when I say that there could be a misunderstanding? The dream didn't even make complete sense; he was an adult, so I most likely had the nightmare because of the information you fed me with. What if there's a mistake somewhere? What if it was an imposter or something? I spoke with Keegan about my family members and he has no idea about who you all are. I don't want to ruin this only piece of happiness I have left by something that's most likely a misunderstanding. Why don't we all just sit together and resolve the issue like normal adults? What could have caused something that led to you thinking Keegan killed your niece, what should we "
She interrupted me with a groan, clenching her hands really tight. "I knew I should've come to you sooner. What have these people done to your poor brain? Did he give you a potion?" She tried to hold me but I stepped backwards.
"We need to walk through different perspectives. I'm very certain there's something else to this issue."
"You know what? I'm frustrated and can't keep up with this nonsense!" her face was contorted to express her exasperation. "I think it's high time you met your parents, maybe they'll be able to talk some sense into you."
"My parents? You mean, I'll finally meet them?" a smile appeared on my lips that slowly transformed to a grin as I let out a harsh breath. " Where? When? How can I meet them?" I wondered, internally bursting into lilies.
"It can be right now. I'll be heading home soon, so you can tag along."
"Great! Lead the way.!" I exclaimed, unable to hold in my exhilaration.
"This might take a while. Don't you think you'd want to call your well -trusted 'mate' to let him know you'll be heading out?"
"Yes, you're right." I glanced around and noticed a phone booth close by. "I'll be back " I quickly skipped and headed to the booth.
Since I didn't know his number without his ID, I called my phone but there was no response. I assumed he wanted to respect my privacy and didn't want to answer my phone call, but needed him to do so right now.
I called multiple times till the phone finally connected.
"Jane isn't available now. Please call again later." He said.
"Keegan, finally!" I exclaimed.
"Oh, it's you. Where are you calling from? Is everything fine?"
"Yes, everything's fine. I just want you to know that I'd like to go on a stroll and just head out for a while so I won't be back early, you don't have to bother about picking me up or looking for me, I might return home late, depending on how much fun I'm having.
"Are you sure it'll be safe? Don't head out so far, okay?"
"It depends."
"I seriously don't understand what's with you and these strolls," he said playfully and I could feel that he'd have rolled his eyes if he was standing in front of me so it made me chuckle.
"I need breathing space too." I was smiling like a turkey and when I glanced at Freya, she didn't look pleased that I was talking and wasting her time. "Okay, I'll leave now."
"Fine, just be safe. I'd have missed you so much but Rylee is here with me and wouldn't stop talking to me, so her company is enough to keep me from boredom."
"Aw, that's good to know. I'm so glad she isn't so scared of you like she was when she first heard your name in the pack."
"Yeah, I'm glad about that too."
Freya waved at me with a frown, letting me know that I was wasting her time.
"Bye, I'll talk to you later."
"Bye. Kisses."
That was so weird. "I accept your kisses." I laughed and I heard him laugh too before I dropped the phone.
The way excitement flooded in me like crazy just thinking about finally meeting my parents again after 15 years felt so good. I ought to not care, but I had longed for a moment to see them again even though I had always thought they were dead.
Freya grabbed my hand, the softness of the fabric on her hand was very warm as she started leading the way.
She continued walking for a really long time and it made me so bored and my legs hurt.
When we were walking into the forest, it started to seem really strange. We had walked for so long. "A-are we... anywhere close?" I stuttered, feeling a bit scared or uncertain.
"Don't worry, I'm not abducting you. We live quite far away. I could go with the shortcut, but that's just too much stress for me. You're in safe hands right now." she said with a warm smile. "You can never be any safer than this right now being with me." She assured me.
We finally stopped, then she opened a door and there was a very dark passageway.
"Where is this?" I asked and my voice echoed into the passageway.
"We're almost at the final destination." She said with a warm smile and started walking in.
"What? There's no way I'm walking in there. It's too dark." I held her back.
"It'll be fine. Don't worry, you'll get used to it as you come by to visit us more often. I can contact someone to turn on a light but that'd be so much work and unsafe because I'd have to leave you here all on your own. Who knows what could try to harm you?
She held my hand and resumed walking into the darkness. As I took a step into the dark passageway, the door shut and it became even darker. "Wh-what's going on?" I panicked and Freya felt it was the right time to let go of me. "Freya? Help?" my heart was thumping really fast as my voice echoed.
I extended my arm to try to touch a wall or anything at all but something rope-like curled around my leg and forcefully started pulling me downwards. It felt like there was no floor anymore, like I was being pulled into a deep well. I was screaming at the top of my lungs as the thing kept pulling me down in very fast motion.
I was starting to feel really sick and the terrible and discomforting pain I had been experiencing earlier worsened at the speed at which I was moving.
My head was spinning way too much and I thought I was going to lose consciousness but a door opened and the rope-like thing wrapped around my leg threw me out through the door. Still screaming, I landed right into bushes.
Groaning and moaning, I rose to my feet, plucking leaves from my hair and clothes. Freya was just standing still and had just walked out of the door without any dramatic scream.
"What the hell was that for?" I screamed at her.
She shrugged with a small smile on her face. "You wanted assistance in getting in. Like I said, you'll get used to it. Now let's head to your parents." She started walking away.
I only noticed that the ground was coated in nothing but grass and there were so many shrubs and bushes around. Different trees were lined up together and multiple beautiful flowers and herbs were around us.
"Is this the garden of Eden?" I asked and she busted into laughter.
"No, it's just our little town. There are so many flowers and plants because we need them for our growth. We can't survive without these trees, herbs, and flowers."
"oh. I nodded, though I didn't understand what she meant.
After another long walk, we stopped in front of a large mansion.
She didn't have to knock on the door before it automatically opened.
"spooky." I whispered and she chuckled again.
Everything about this place was so beautiful. We walked in and the house had extremely beautiful but not so luxurious white and gray interiors. To make the living room and everything else look more beautiful, there were also flowers and a few plants around the entire living room.
I stared around, loving the smell of the flowers. "This is so beautiful!" I admitted.
"Jane?" Someone called my name and a woman with dark blonde hair and sapphire eyes headed to me with a grin on her face. She looked like Freya but also had similar facial features as me; her jawline, nose, her eyes, they all looked similar to mine, her hair was just a darker shade of blonde and her eyes a brighter orb of blue. "My daughter!" she pulled me into a really tight hug and started sobbing.
"Mother?" I called and the flashback of the dream I had appeared in my head. Though I hadn't seen my Mom's face in my dream, now I could see her face as I remembered the dream. "Oh my gosh, I never thought I'd see you again." She sobbed and rested her head on my shoulder. She was a bit shorter and it felt strange that someone could be shorter than my 5 foot 6 self. While she still hugged me non-stop, a man headed to us. He also has a little similar facial features as me and his hair was a lighter shade of blonde that blended perfectly well with the small gray of hair he had on his head and his blue eyes were dark as mine. He had a very rigid appearance and his face was a bit scary, like he wanted to beat me up.
"Our Jane has grown so much." The sweetness in his voice didn't match his hardened face at all. "Please don't choke her and make her get scared of you." He gently pulled my mother away from me then held my shoulders, glancing me from head to toe. "Wow, I can't believe I'm finally holding you again for the first time in fifteen tough years."
"Me neither." Mother said and her eyes had welled up. "So your daughter here believes Keegan is a saint." Freya said and they both gasped dramatically.
"Jane, please don't be fooled. Keegan is the most terrible person that lives right now. Did you really accept his proposal out of love for him?" Father's voice was a bit cold, like a blend of arrogance and gentleness.
"No sweetheart, no. Mother shook her head. "That man terrible. You have to stay away from him.
"There might be a misunderstanding.
"Oh my gosh, so she truly doesn't remember anything?" Mother clicked her tongue.
"They must've tampered with her memory so much." Father added.
"No, nothing's wrong with me. I'm just trying to make you understand that Keegan might not be as terrible as you think he is. He's just someone with a past that broke him." I still insisted.
My father sighed. "Let's just forget these for now and focus on the fact that our daughter is finally seeing us again."
"Exactly! Let's show you around town." Mother held my hand and they both led me outside, holding me with so much care. The least they could've done is let me sit for a while, but I was too excited to explore the town my parents lived in to care about sitting.
Three of them took me around the town for a while, showing me the major places for coffee, training, and other interesting factors.
We headed to a sloppy path that looked like a high hill and from the top of the hill, we could see a great view of the small town. All I could see was green. There were so many trees, leaves, and flowers around the town, every house had plants surrounding it and though it was beautiful, it was very strange.
"What's with the flowers? I know it's healthy, but why are there so many in this town? Do you eat them or make them for your skincare?" I asked jokingly.
"Well.... In our community, we are also witches and wizards, so a lot of these plants and herbs are required to make a few things. We have both witches and mainly werewolves here, though a lot of us are both werewolves and witches, like half breed, just like you." Mother explained.
I quirked an eyebrow. "Me? A witch?"
"Yes, since you're our daughter, you're a half-witch and half- werewolf like us, so you ought to have really strong powers accompanied by your wolf, but it's been sealed." Father further explained.
"How can I be half with and what do you mean by sealed?" I wondered. It was just like what Chloe had said about me possessing strong gifts that were locked up. "How will I possibly be able to unlock these gifts?"
"We can help you get it out but you can continue the strength improvement training. Once you're strong enough, we'll assist you in getting your wolf and the power you were born to have will be restored to you."
This all felt so strange to me. How could a useless omega like me be as powerful as they tagged me to be?
"I can't begin to imagine how great and powerful you'd be." Mother was grinning, her excitement was so obvious. "I love you so much and I'm so happy to see you again. All my nights have been filled with tears. Not a single day passed without me crying over the fact that my daughter wasn't with me."
"I'm happy to see you too." I smiled. I loved her cheerful personality, it was very relaxing.
"Let's resume exploring the town." Freya suggested and we continued strolling around.
As we walked past different people, they kept smiling and whispering to one another, patently talking about me.
"The princess is finally here!" one of them announced.
"She's the future queen." Mother corrected with so much pride.
I glanced at a young child, probably 3 or 2, who waved at me and stepped forward. "I'm really looking forward to you helping us restore the peace we truly deserve." She said in her baby-like voice and she had to be the most adorable child I had seen, so cute and tiny.
I only smiled at her and nodded till Freya, Mother and Father resumed walking and I walked with them. The weather was also very nice here, not hot, not cold, just perfect with the wind gently blowing my hair up.
"You heard that child, right? Everyone here has their hopes in you, they all trust you to help restore the peace Keegan stole from us all." Freya said as we started walking into a very large building. I didn't want to respond to her, so I remained quiet.
Father led us to a room in the building that was very dark then he flicked a switch on. The room was filled with so many pictures hung on the wall. The wall had a painting of a tree with different branches and each of the picture frames sat on the branches.
The pictures led to different people then when I saw my parents photos above two people's pictures then to a younger version of me and Jess, it dawned on me that it was the family tree.
"Oh, this is beautiful. Everything about this place is beautiful. It's filled with natural things that I love, the people seem very nice, and everywhere looks so peaceful and relaxing."
"Yes, it is beautiful, but our peace isn't restored yet." Father replied. "Many of us live in fear of the unknown everyday, that's why we had to choose shelther in a very hidden place like this. We still need the land that's rightfully ours."
