Chapter 60 Chapter 60
Alpha Keegan and I returned to the pack house, our fingers were intertwined, neither of us was ready to let go of the other yet. At least no one was going to notice, I thought to myself. My thoughts were still reeling around what his surprise could be. There was no point in asking him again, because he was certainly going to ignore the question like he had been doing since we walked here.
When we opened the door, I was startled to see Kate and a few other people around so I quickly pulled my hand from his. My eyes loomed over Kate's side and I only noticed Vladimir and Chloe's presence.
I screamed and hurried to them, pulling Chloe into a really tight hug, grinning from ear to ear. "I didn't know you were coming as well. Oh my gosh, it's so good to see you in person again!" I glanced at Alpha Keegan and he flashed a millisecond smile at me. This was definitely a surprise I loved.
Chloe was chuckling as I still hugged her really tight and gently pushed me back, holding my shoulders. A warm smile was present on her face and she looked even more gorgeous, her caramel skin was glowing with her curly hair tied backwards, the delight in her asian eyes matched mine. "I gave you a hint when I said I had a surprise for you." she smiled.
"How was I supposed to know?" The fact that she was standing right in front of me made me feel like twirling around, dancing for joy. I didn't realize I missed her this much until now.
Luna pulled Alpha Keegan and as they started speaking to each other, his previously happy face was filled with sternness.
I ignored it and pulled Chloe into a quick hug again.
"Don't I deserve any attention as well?" Vladimir reminded me of his presence, wearing a playful frown.
"I'm so sorry. I just really missed Chloe." I chuckled.
"So you didn't miss me as well? You haven't even spoken to me or called me almost everyday like you call Chloe. I'm disappointed." He shook his head, feigning hurt.
I couldn't help but chuckle and extended my hand to give him a handshake but he took me aback by pulling me into a hug. It was a short hug but it felt so warm and made color rush to my face.
"How are you? You look even more beautiful, glowing, and hotter than before." He added the last words in a lower and deeper voice, causing my cheeks to flush with even more heat.
"Stop teasing me."
"I'm not." He had a smirk on. His golden eyes were also filled with matching bliss and his golden brown hair was styled in a more sleek way, matching the crazy tattoos on arms and body that were hidden in his shirt. Now that I knew he was Alpha Keegan's step brother, I could notice a few similarities between them: they both looked really hot and had similar body build up and a few facial similarities. It all made sense now.
"You also look..." hot, amazing, like someone I could swallow at once, "...good." I completed, not daring to utter the words in my head.
"Yeah, thank you." He shoved his hands into his pants 'pocket as he lowered his head to my ear, "I wanted to look good for you." His lips brushed against my earlobe and made chills stream down my body.
"It's fine!" Alpha Keegan grunted at Kate and stormed over to us, holding me away from Vladimir." I can see you still haven't learnt how to be professional in any way." He spat.
"Calm down Keegan. You've also clearly not learnt how to be any nicer." He clicked his tongue, his smirked arching even more.
Alpha Keegan's face rumpled as a low growl vibrated in his throat.
"Will you show us to the room we'll stay in, Jane?" Vladimir asked me, wearing one of his warm smiles again.
"You can stay with Chloe for now. Alpha Vladimir and I still have work to attend to." He said to me over his shoulder.
"Okay, Alpha." I grabbed Chloe and started scuttling away, excited to pour out my excitement to her and listen to so many talks from her. While we passed Kate, her glare made my feet feel cold and I hastened my steps before heading upstairs and to Alpha Keegan's bedroom with Chloe.
"Omega!" Mrs. Bea called my name and the moment I stepped into her chamber, her glare almost melted me. "How dare you waste my time yelling for you to come over? Where the hell are your stupid ears placed? At the sole of your damn feet?" she spat.
"I apologize. I was stuck with an activity." I bowed my head at her.
"The beta needs to go on an errand and you'll have to be her assistant. Get out now and go to her; she should be around the pack building or close to the parking lot." She waved her hand in dismissal, turning to her television and laughed at the current scene.
I left the room and headed out of the pack house. Scarlett wasn't anywhere around and just when I was about to go in search of her in the parking lot, I turned and bumped into someone that turned out to be her.
"Oh, hi Scarlett." I grinned with a small wave.
She had a very stern face and almost rolled her eyes. "It's you."
"Yes... Mrs. Bea asked me to assist you on an errand."
Hearing that made her face twist even more. "Follow me." She started walking forward while I followed behind. "Didn't I tell her to send someone else?" she gruffed. Didn't she realize I could hear her?
"So..."
"Please maintain silence." She cut me off very rudely, walking faster than my pace could meet up with. What was wrong with her?
I ignored her and gazed at the sky, it had hues of purple, red, and orange that created a beautiful form of art that had a calming effect on me. It was great enough to wash my attention from Scarlett's grumpiness.
After a while, we had crossed the pack's border and I was finally able to catch up with her- she had reduced her pace- yet a frown still etched on her facial features and her whole aura gave off the mean Beta vibe. To avoid pissing her off, I ignored her, still appreciating the sky and how the trees away from us lined up and felt like tall humans with connected hands which looked cute to me.
"Are you still certain there's nothing going on between you and Alpha Keegan?" Scarlett broke the silence, drawing my attention back to her. Her eyes were drawn in askance, eagerly waiting for my response.
Was I still supposed to remain on her weird crush on Alpha Keegan? My revenge was clearly more important than that, but I couldn't create any suspicion from anyone. "Of course not!" I forced a smile.
"Are you sure? His attention seems to be only on you lately."
"I have no idea of what is in his head, but there's definitely nothing between us. Be calm." I patted her shoulder. "Is that why you've been grouchy towards me?"
"Well..." she shrugged, her facial muscles relaxing a bit. "I don't want to be betrayed by you. We're friends, remember? And friends wouldn't crush each other's dreams, so don't try to get in between me and Alpha Keegan." She said- more like warned- in a very low voice. I felt a shiver run down my body at how cold her voice was.
"You?" A tall man with silky golden blonde hair and the most beautiful emerald eyes I had ever seen called to Scarlett in awe, sprinting to us. "I can't believe I'll finally meet you again."
"Why the hell are you here?" she asked, an even harsher frown plastered on her face.
"I feel so broken after you rejected me as your mate." He said with a sigh. "My life is a whole mess, the rejection pain is too harsh and I can't get over it. I looked forward to finding you my whole life and you just crushed my whole years of waiting" "How do I care?"
"So this is your mate you were talking about?" I wondered out loud. "He's so good-looking. How'd anyone reject someone like him?"
"Jane, please stay out of this." She warned.
"She's right. You didn't -"
"Let's speak in private." She cut him off and turned away while he followed her in quick steps, his eyebrows tilted upwards in worry.
"Scarlett is definitely crazy to reject him because of Alpha Keegan that doesn't seem like he cares to be her mate." The dude seemed like a good guy. I stood alone, pacing around and swinging my arms for a while. A few minutes had passed and they still hadn't come out. Now I was very curious to know what they were discussing.
My stubborn-headed curiosity made me tiptoe to the direction they had left and through the leaves of two short trees, I shoved one of them aside and peeked through the hole to see Scarlett and the man.
She had just pushed him away and had yelled something at him.
"But why?" The man asked, his forehead was creased as his arms dropped to his sides; he looked really heartbroken.
"Don't you get it, Evan? I want Alpha Keegan and I'm definitely not moving to any other stupid pack regardless of your status. "I have- I need to be his mate, the Luna of my pack. It's more important than my life and no one, not even you, would stop me. Being his Luna is my main focus; I have to achieve my purpose and I definitely will, so stay away!"
When I realized she started walking away from him, I quickly ran back to the position I was standing and waited for her to return to me.
"You heard nothing, right?" she grunted and I shook my head. "Let's get going!" she stormed away and I followed her, unable to keep up with her pace again.
Now it was getting suspicious. Why was she so desperate to be Luna? Was there something she was hiding from all of us?
