Chapter 54 Chapter 54
"You. Why are you here?" The guard asked me, scanning around. "Where are you coming from?" He wondered. "Do you realize how they're searching for you so much?"
"Can you please escort me to the pack house? I'm scared to walk alone." I begged him, expecting him to frown and spit at me to get out and find my way.
"Sure, why not? I'll inform someone else to guard my spot." He scurried to another guard a few feet away from me and returned. "Let's go." The fact that he wasn't being grumpy was strange.
I followed quietly behind him, ignoring how my legs ached from the long walk when we arrived at the pack house.
"Please don't inform anyone about my presence yet. I just need to go to bed." I requested, remembering that they could mind link one another.
"Okay..." he trailed off like he wasn't certain.
"Thank you for the escort." I bowed my head.
"It's fine. Go inside. I have to get going now." He waved at me and scuttled out of my presence.
I got into the house and shambled all the way up the stairs and to Alpha Keegan's bedroom.
He had just laid on the bed and let out a groan. "This is so fucking annoying!" He clenched his fists and was about to hit the bedside table when his gaze met mine. He froze with his hand mid-air, staring at me with widened eyes like I was a ghost.
"You... how are you here?" he jumped to his feet and hurried to me. "Are you really here?" he held my shoulders, turning me to the sides to check my body out. "And you're actually not injured. Oh my gosh," he chortled in relief and pulled me into a tight hug. "I missed you so much." He pulled away and cupped my face, "you're really here, standing in front of me. I can't believe this. I feel so great right now, I feel alive by just touching you." He brushed my hair away from my face and lowered his face to mine, connecting our lips. I stood still, completely taken aback. His kiss was a bit harsh as he poured out multiple emotions. I could feel the sparks from the mesmerizing feeling of his lips. It was a bit aggressive and made my heart pump faster with a chill engulfing my spine.
His kiss was getting to my head and making me feel giddy, the pleasure was slowly bringing up an arousal from it. The flashbacks popped up in my head again, reminding me of the fact that I was back for nothing but revenge. I pushed him away with as much effort I could gather.
Due to his strength, he only moved backwards a bit with his brows raised and curved. "That was a bit harsh, but I apologize. I didn't mean to kiss. I had just been so worried and extremely confused, so seeing you again made me lose control and act out of surprise." He explained, scratching the back of his neck.
A frown was plastered on my face at the thought of how terrible he was. How could he feel comfortable to live his life after he had ruined mine and so many others.? My hatred for him had grown even more and I felt like ripping all his hair out of his head.
"Are You okay?" he asked, drawing his eyebrows together in concern.
"Yes, I am." I muttered.
"That's very good to know. Where were you? Who kidnapped you? Do you know what the people look like? I promise we'd find them and punish them for taking you like that. Have you -"
"Please Alpha, I just want to head to bed." I cut him off and started heading in the direction of the couch.
He grabbed my arm to stop me, standing in front of me with squinted eyes. "Are you really sure you're fine? Don't you want to speak about it? Are you sick?" he tried to touch my forehead but I moved my neck backwards. "Are you hurt? Your eyes are swollen, you must've cried."
"Please just let me head to bed." I insisted.
"Fine. Stay on the bed instead of the couch tonight. I need you to remain by my side to ensure you're safe."
With a frown, I wanted to refuse immediately but remembering that I had to be his Luna to get my revenge, I forced a smile and nodded. "That'd be great."
A smile formed on his face. "At least you smiled, that's calming. I'll assume you're stressed out and will give you time to speak about it. You can head to bed, I'll join you later. I have to speak to the guards."
I nodded and headed and headed to his bed.
"Please stay safe till I return," He pulled the covers over me and patted my head. I waited for him to leave but gazed at me for a few more minutes with his amber eyes shimmering with multiple spoken questions.
My thoughts remained on the fact that he was a terrible and monstrous person. Multiple flashbacks reeled in my head till I was forced to fall asleep under his gaze.
I strolled downstairs, yawning due to my sleepy state. I couldn't believe I woke up by 2pm and no one had bothered to disturb me. They probably hadn't found out that I was back, that was the only best explanation.
My neck hurt really bad like I had placed too much weight on it in my sleep. As I massaged my neck with my fingers, craning it to the side with my eyes shut due to the pain, I bumped into a figure on the way.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." I opened my eyes to see if I had hurt the person. "Mae?" A grin formed on my face at the sight of the redhead from Pam and George's party. "You're here... how... when?"
"I'm so glad to see you too. I had really expected to see you when I arrived but you were nowhere to be found." She replied in her deep voice.
"I wasn't here yet. I never thought I'd see you again.
How about Ava?" I grinned, a new pop of excitement awakened in me.
"Oh, she isn't here. We're actually not done with our work in the university; I'll have to return soon for my graduation. I'm here to like work as an intern or something, I don't know if that makes any sense."
"oh..." I nodded.
"Yeah, so I work as the pack secretary slash accountant for now." She stated proudly.
"You must feel so good about it."
"Definitely!" She exclaimed and we both chuckled. "I'm really bored, so I'd literally do anything. Where are you heading to now?"
"I have no idea. I was supposed to attend to chores in the pack, but no one woke me up. I want to check if there's still chores to do or I'm free to get out of here and have breathing space."
"I vote getting out of here. I need to walk around and explore the pack town again." Her face suddenly became droopy.
"What's wrong?"
"I remembered that I had heard many places in the pack had been even more developed and I was going to explore everywhere today with someone's help, but
"But what? You don't know the proper direction to head to? I can help you out." I offered with a smile.
"No, not that, after all that happened yesterday..." She trailed off again.
"What happened yesterday?" I stared around till my eyes returned to her.
She arched an eyebrow. "So you mean, you're a member of this pack and you have no idea of the fact that the pack was attacked yesterday and there were serious destructions?"
"Really? I had no idea! Wow, was anyone hurt?"
"No one died, but a few were hospitalized from the effect of the fire and panic." She informed me.
"Wow. I had no idea. That's really sad."
"Yes, it is, but let's forget that for now, I don't like reflecting on past stories. Let's explore the newly developed places that haven't been destroyed and most importantly, head out for lunch. You must be very hungry, right?"
"Yes, I really am." I held my stomach, scrunching my face in confirmation from the stinging pain in it.
"Great, let's head out."
On our way out of the door, Alpha Keegan was walking in. To avoid having anything to do with him, I hastened my steps and Mae just felt it was right to greet him, "Good afternoon Alpha."
"Hey," he replied to her and when I still didn't stop walking, he grabbed my arm and made me stand in front of him. His stern face was present and it made me even more pissed off. What gave him the right to act so bold when he was nothing but an asshole that ruined my whole life? "Are you ready to say anything about what happened to you or who kidnapped you?"
"Jane was kidnapped?!" Mae exclaimed, "why didn't you tell me?"
I forced a smile at her, "I'm fine now." my smile slipped off when my gaze returned to Alpha Keegan. "Please let go of me, Alpha. I have to attend to other things." I rolled my shoulders to yank my arm from his grip.
"You're acting strange again." He twisted his face and a millisecond smile appeared on his lips which he quickly erased when he noticed Mae was looking and lowered his head to my ear. "I already told you how fierce and more attractive you look when you frown. Keep it up for now, I love the grumpiness." His breath fanned against my ear and made goosebumps run from my neck to my arm. He pulled away, clearing his throat. "I understand that you must be shy and might not want to express yourself in the presence of others, but please let me, Mason, or Scarlett know any information you have, and please be safe." He patted my head and when his eyes landed on my lips and body, a dark emotion ran in them before his eyes traveled to Mae and he let go of me, locking his hands behind him as he took his leave.
"Let's get going." I ushered Mae, trying to conceal my frown but to no avail.
She was silent for a while till we left the house and the gates before she started, "so... is there like anything between you and Alpha Keegan?"
"Ew, no, no way!" I snapped, irritated that I could be paired with such a demon.
"Whoa, whoa, it's okay." She lifted her hands in surrender.
I chuckled to ease the atmosphere of my grouchiness. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay, I just thought there was something going on, judging from your kiss at the party and how much he was paying attention to you, but if you say there's nothing going on between you, it's actually very good to know, because that man is so damn hot!" she exclaimed, fanning a hand over her face dramatically. "Jeez, he's a masterpiece, specially carved. I've never really had the time to be close to him like I was earlier and neither have I ever had the chance to speak to him or hear his voice when he wasn't addressing the pack publicly, but damn!" she whistled, "he's so hot. Like the proper kind of guys that I dream about. Now I can't stop thinking about being married to him. I'd definitely -" she was interrupted by almost bumping into Casper who was quick to extend his hands to hold her shoulders, preventing her from hitting him.
"Good afternoon, miss. Please watch where you're going." He added politely with a smile and flashed a grin at me. "Hey Jane, how are you?" He let go of Mae whose eyes were a bit widened and her face and body froze at the spot.
"Hi." I greeted him with a small wave. "How are you back? Some of us were sent to look for you."
"I guess I just magically appeared back here." I chuckled.
"Oh, that's great." He nodded like he understood that I didn't want to talk about then glanced at Mae." Who's she, and is she always that quiet? There was no addition to the list of new pack members with her features." He said in almost a whisper. "She's not a new member. She's Mae and she has been a member of the pack since birth. She's almost done in the university but she's here to just like work as an intern. She'll be returning for her graduation that's coming up in a few days." I repeated her words from earlier.
"Yes, I'm Mae, you are?" she finally spoke, grinning from ear to ear.
"I'm Casper and glad you can speak." He teased.
"She spoke about my graduation earlier, do both of you mind attending my graduation?" she asked, glancing between me and Casper.
"Attending a celebration at a university? I'd love to!" I exclaimed, glad I was invited to something.
"And you?" She glanced at Casper, her eagerness to hear his response could be read in her chocolate eyes.
"I... uh... I don't know. I mean, I don't really know you." He scratched the back of his neck. "You don't have to know me. You know the Gamma's wife, right? Crystal?" she asked.
"Yeah, we're friends, I think."
"Great! I'm her sister, so that's at least a good enough relationship for you to attend my graduation." "You're Crystal's sister?" he asked rhetorically. " That's probably why you looked a bit familiar. If you're Crystal's sister, then I won't miss such an opportunity to attend the graduation of a beautiful young lady like you." He teased, causing her cheeks to turn crimson.
"That'd be great!"
"Yeah. I have to attend to something really quickly. Please wait here for me, ladies. Alpha has instructed a guard to watch over you," he was referring to me, " for your safety, and it turns out I'm the only guard available."
I ought to be mad and inconvenient about that, but since it was Casper, it was a good thing for me to have him as extra company.
"By the way, Jane, I deeply apologize for the outcome of our previous date, but I promise to make it up to you on a different date when everything in the pack is fine." He lifted his eyebrows.
"It was actually very amazing, but another date sounds like more fun." I smiled at him and he returned my smile. "I'll get going now." When he left our sight, Mae turned to me, her cheeks still filled with red, her eyes glimmered like a torch. " He's also very hot! Are all the men so damn sexy in this pack?" she added a suppressed squeak and clapped her hands. "I'll definitely enjoy my stay here."
"I'm sure you will, but why didn't you let me know Crystal's your sister?" I asked with a small frown.
Her smile washed off her face and was replaced with her eyes drawn together in askance. "I didn't remember. Why do you seem unhappy about it?"
"Unhappy? No, I feel great. I just wasn't expecting it." I forced a smile.
I thought I had made a new friend I could share my burdens with, so it was quite a disappointment that she was Crystal's sister, which meant there was no way I could confide in her about my new discovery about Alpha Keegan- not like I was going to tell anyone about it yet, I just had to be extra careful around her to avoid spilling anything about the revenge. She was certainly going to tell Crystal, then Crystal was going to tell Mason and if Alpha Keegan found out, everything was going to be ruined. I was determined to get my revenge on him and I wasn't going to make any mistake or let anyone come in my way.
