Chapter 28 Chapter 28
~ JANE -
"Move to your room? No way, Alpha. What if you kill me in my sleep?" I didn't know why or how I was able to utter that?
"Kill you in your sleep?" He frowned, retracting his hands from my shoulders. "If I wanted you dead, I'd have done that with the multiple chances I had."
"I can manage here on my own. Thank you for your kindness." I forced out, bowing my head. Something hit the window and made me flinch, clinging to his shoulders for support.
"You're scared of an ordinary bird, how do you expect to survive on your own?" he lifted his brows at me, with a 'seriously, omega' look.
"I was only startled." I pulled away from him, still frowning. Why on Earth would he care about whether or not someone killed me when he almost wanted me dead? "I can manage on my own. I don't need sympathy." I gruffed. Girl, you definitely want yourself dead.
A low growl vibrated in his throat. "Be in my room in five minutes, else..." he trailed off. His voice was calm, yet it possessed that authority that warned you to not be disobedient.
"Yes, Alpha." I bowed down in surrender, his dominance annoyed me for probably the first time in my life.
After he had taken his leave, I arranged my clothes back into my plastic bag and grabbed a few more things before heading to Alpha Keegan's room. He wasn't in yet, giving me the chance to explore the idea of staying here. It was a gray themed interior, there was a couch, a bed that was obviously comfortable, a glass Spanish table between the two- seater and three-seater couches, a reading table and chair, stack of paperbacks, a vanity with multiple bottles of cologne and body care things, the chandelier was glistening like silver stars, there were white and gray rugs on different parts and the rug under my feet felt very warm.
Did I really have the permission to stay here? The room was too exorbitant for me.
"It's not bad." I had never been in this room as a room I'd want to spend my sleep time in and call my bedroom, so imagining sleeping here had a different light and the thought filled me with bliss.
Alpha Keegan walked into the room, reminding me that it belonged to him and shattering my bliss.
"I know there can't be anything strange in my room, but if you observe strange activities, maybe... someone wants to attack you, just hit the red button on the wall there." He pointed to the wall beside his bed with a red button I had never noticed until now," it'll result in immediate emergency rescue for you. Though no one would definitely try to attack you while you're in my bedroom. No one can dare to do that. Drex and I are your protection while you're here."
"Who's Drex?" I didn't want to speak to him at all, but I was curious.
"My wolf. Any other questions? I need to head to bed."
I shook my head, maintaining my frown.
He grabbed his towel and night shorts from the wardrobe. Not minding my presence, he got rid of his coat and shirt, exposing his bare chest; his simple action made my breath unsteady as I tried to remain angry and avoid letting myself get lost in those biceps or doing something as stupid as drooling over him - I mean, he looked really good, for some reasons.
He left for the bathroom, snapping me back to my senses. This was definitely a terrible idea I needed a solution from.
A ray of light hit my face, calling me out from my sleep. I stretched my arms out and rolled over; it was too late for me to stop myself as I fell flat to the floor
I squeaked and groaned in pain, scanning around to take in the fact that I had slept on the couch and had rolled off. Guess I was used to sleeping on the floor and didn't mind rolling over.
Alpha Keegan wasn't in the room, something I was grateful for. Maybe he was going to forget about me and I could return to my room tonight.
I got up and cleaned the room before heading downstairs with my clothes and towel to have a bath; I didn't want to take the risk of using Alpha Keegan's bathroom. When I was done, I returned to the living room to clean the place.
"Jane!" Mrs. Bea guffawed. "Where the hell have you been? I searched your room and searched everywhere for you. I thought you had run away,"
"I'm sorry. I overslept." I bowed my head in apology.
"Overslept? While there's so much to do? You weren't in your room either. Where were you?" She frowned really hard and folded her arms across her chest with clenched fists that warned me if I missed up more than this, she was going to slap me.
"I was-"
"What?" She lifted her hand. "Do you think-"
"Omega, make me breakfast." Alpha Keegan interrupted her, his presence startled me a bit, but I was glad his voice had stopped her from slapping me.
He was in only his singlet and shorts and was very sweaty, informing us that he had either come back from a run, a work out or extensive pack training.
"Yes, Alpha." I took my leave for the kitchen.
"Hey Jane," Scarlett called as she walked into the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water. "Good morning." I smiled at her as I washed my hands.
"Meet me in my bedroom with my breakfast, but for something else actually." She winked and took a gulp of the water.
"Okay."
After grabbing a mug filled with coffee, she took her leave.
Being alone in the kitchen scared me. I tried not to look at the window to avoid noticing anyone or anything running past it.
If I hadn't been released, my morning ought to be filled with Liam hitting me or me being chained to the bench of shame and enduring the hurtful words from the pack members or having things thrown at me. The worst part of my suffering was the whipping and remembering that it was all Alpha Keegan's consent made my stomach hurt, like someone kicked me while wearing a heavy boot. The thoughts made the anger in me burn even more.
After the meal was done, I served Scarlett's breakfast first with the intention of avoiding Alpha Keegan a little more.
I knocked on her room door and walked in after she permitted me to do so. I got into her room, amused by the brightness around it. It was painted in white with furniture and accessories in either pink or purple. The windows were all opened unlike Alpha Keegan's room windows, which resulted in its brightness. It was beautiful, but I still preferred the darkness associated with Alpha Keegan's bedroom. "Oh hey Jane." She smiled, dropping the adult magazine she was reading and took a sip from her mug of coffee. "Place the tray on the coffee table and please sit." She tapped the spot on the couch beside her.
I did as she had instructed, taking a seat beside her. Though we were friends- more like secret friends— I never really entered her room or sat with her.
"Hi." I grinned at her.
"Hi. It's good to see you again. I have to admit I missed you." She folded her legs and sighed "Me too." I lied, a partial lie though. Chloe's presence made me almost forget her.
"I hope there's nothing going on between you and Keegan!" She lifted a brow at me.
"No, definitely not." I scrunched my face in disgust.
"Great! You're such a sweet friend." She grinned, the beta aura around her relaxed completely. "It's been my dream to be the Luna of this pack. My father, the previous beta, also wants the same. You know they no longer live in pack town, right?"
"Yes, they live among humans now." If I remembered that correctly.
"Yes. And they hope I'll be mated to Alpha Keegan soon. Their anniversary is coming up and they hope I'll be able to fulfill their dream. As the pack Beta, if I become Luna, it'll be of great benefit to me and the pack. Mom and Dad want me to confirm that I'm in a relationship with Keegan so they'll stop bugging me." Her eyes wandered around, worry evident in them.
"Don't worry. It'll be fine. They can give you time." "No, they won't! They don't want me to waste any more time. I even rejected my mate recently." "You did?!" I exclaimed. "Yes. Alpha Keegan has to be my mate."
"That would've hurt him. Rejection isn't a good idea." I stopped myself from frowning. "It doesn't matter. I just need to convince Alpha Keegan to come with me to my parents' anniversary and act like my boyfriend."
I blinked at her and blinked again, not understanding how that was going to be possible. "And I need your help with that."
